New uVerse Install

Been a Bellsouth DSL customer for 13 years, along with at&t voice. Ditching DTV to combine all three via uVerse. My apologies for asking the repetitive questions, but I have been searching all day and getting different answers. 1. I see some things that indicate TV will be wireless, while others will run a dedicated coax line. How do I know which I get? I would prefer hard wired. (Lines are there, I doubt they will reuse, but easy access for new lines isn't a problem.) 2. Is the "RG" in addition to some other piece of hardware? I see pictures online of what looks like a router on steroids with phone and coax lines. Well, that is partially fine. Won't my phone service be tied to my existing home wiring (versus a jack on the RJ device? 3. Will the coax (TV) be run off this thing as well? I mean, I don't want some router with a mess of wires cluttering up my basement. 4. I would prefer to use my own wireless router as I have found it rock solid. I guess the unofficial word is that I can still use it, but they won't set it up. That I can understand. But, I guess my confusion is that I am confused about this whole RG thing. Is it separate from the router? If the router is in the basement, then I will need ethernet lines run up to my router in my office. And I can't have the router in my office, because I don't want coax being run for TV. Maybe I am making a mountain out of a mole hill. I simply want some demarcation where a coax line in the basement goes to the TV for video, telco interfaces with the existing phone lines, and a line (phone?) goes to my office where I can use a modem to interface with my router. Does it work that way? Thanks all

U-Verse vs DSL

At&t called and said I could get better speeds with thier U-Verse service. At the moment I have a pots line and 3 mbps DSL. They are going to hook me up to 3mbps internet and voip U-Verse connection. My question is will this actually be a downgrade instead of an upgrade. It is my understand that the VoIP requires 2 Mbps leaving only 1 Mbps for my internet from what I read after placing this order. Please advise as I thinking about canceling this order. It is hard to get a straight answer for At&t. Please advise Thanks

Question on bonded U-Verse

I am looking at swapping my aunt from Time Warner Cable in Columbus, and she currently has 30/5 from Time Warner. AT&T currently lists her house as being able to do 18/1.5 U-Verse Internet only. Will AT&T do a bonded setup to obtain a 30/3 line, or something similar? I have not had AT&T for a few years, and currently have a 40/5 pair-bonded setup through CenturyLink (20.063/2.552 per pair) I'm just wondering if it's even worth the hassle of calling them to see what they'll do.

PLEASE help with VPN setup

VPN with uverse I am trying to set up a VPN between home and the office. I have a 3com 3cr860.95, at home and ATT uverse. The 3com is "reset" to "factory default". (NOT configured) Upgraded to what I think is the "latest" firmware (1.04) Port 1 of the RG goes to an 8 port switch ( netgear) Port 2 of the RG goes to the 3com. everything in the house goes to the Netgear switch. The 3com VPN will be used for a couple of VoIP phones, one sip to an asterisk and another sip to an Ipecs phone system.. I "need" what "looks" like a public IP out of the 3com. That is what I am having trouble with. Hopefully I will be able to leave the other devices out of the VPN. ( four computers, a network drive and another AP.) How do I connect the 3com to the uverse RG? any other questions I can answer, please post them. Thanks Don

Uverse in SF speed limits, customer retention discount

I think it's crazy that here in SF, the heart of Silicon Valley, I can't get Internet speeds higher than 6mb/s download speeds. I went to their website and saw that they were offering my package, called "elite" (nice try, more like "would have been elite in 1993"), for $34.95 a month to new users. I am currently paying $45 a month for this absolute joke of a service. So I called their regular Uverse line, and when I explained the situation, I was transferred to the magical department called "retention." Having worked for certain telecom companies before, I know that they will go to great lengths to keep customers, especially ones like me who have been being anally violated by them for many years. So they offered me the price they're offering new customers pretty much right away. Just wanted to let people know that you do have certain protocols to go through if you are paying too much for Uverse, and I'm sure other companies would do this as well.

Is it possible to contact someone in a upper tier level that can dispatch a tech with a decent amount of experience to resolve issues with our uverse problems. Each person that comes out finds an issue different then the previous person. None of the fixes has resolved the problem. That is the service drops below the level of good phone or picture. QOS drops 40 to 50 percent and the phone audio stutters in bound and out bound. Assistance would be appreciated. Jerry

Uverse Line State: Up, Broadband Connection: Down

I've been having issues with my Uverse ADSL2+ service where the "Broadband Connection" status changes to "Down" but shows the "Line State" status as "Up". This usually happens at least once a day and has been ongoing for a few months. I've had a Uverse tech come out, he tried a few different things including briefly replacing the modem (NVG510), but nothing has helped. Unplugging the power to the modem and plugging it back in again helps it get the broadband connection back up, but it can get stuck in the "down" state otherwise. It can take a few minutes to get the broadband connection back, or sometimes over an hour. Any ideas as to what this problem is or how to fix it?

Will uverse vdsl customers eventually get a speed bump in the near future?

With AT&T adding more speed tiers, will existing customers from 12-24mbps tiers get speed bumps in the future. Even an increase in upload speeds would make me happy.

Does the recommended profile in the bottom right corner of this data mean my line could handle 25/2? I currently have max level 12/1. Website says max plus 18 is the highest I can get. i don't plan on getting the next tier.

Hi there - I've been pointed to this forum to help in my quest to get the higher-speed tiers, for my brand-new, fiber-to-the-home townhome-style-condo. I'm currently at the 24mbps tier, and want to explore getting provisioned for the 45/75/100mbps tiers (internet). Here's my address: 461 Hansen Drive San Mateo, CA 94403

Cancelling U-Verse

I currently have U-Verse Internet and Voice. I have ordered TWC Internet and Voice, and they should port over my phone number come Tuesday. I didn't really check whether U-Verse has a ETF of any sorts, I have been with them for 3 and a half years and made no changes to my services that could trigger a new contract. Can I return my 2-Wire equipment to the nearest AT&T store after cancellation? Do they want the UPS unit back as well? I heard they aren't taking those back at all. Enlighten me, please :) -- "I reject your reality and substitute my own!"

U-verse throttling HTTP traffic?

For at least a few weeks now, any time I see an imgur link, I dread trying to view it. For instance, attempting to view this one, which I can't even tell if it's work safe or not, results in 14.4 modem speeds: http://i.imgur.com/Xpwz9t5.gif cURL estimates it will take me 15 minutes to download that. ... scratch that, cURL terminated due to the connection being reset after 94kB was retrieved. Speed tests on speedtest.net manage to pull at least 21Mbps down and push 2.7Mbps up while this is happening. And nobody else that I've asked has seen any speed problems fetching the same exact image, or any other images on imgur.

Does this bypass throttling?

Help with IPv6 setup

I'm trying to get IPv6 running on my home network. I'm pretty sure it should be possible, but I'm not able to ping any public addresses, and I'm hoping someone can help me figure out why. I have an ASUS RT-AC66U (router) behind a 2Wire 3801HGV (RG) in DMZPlus mode. The RG says IPv6 is "disabled", but my understanding is that's okay because I'll be handling IPv6 on the router. In the router configuration, I have the following options: Connection type: 6rd DHCP: Disable IPv6 prefix: 2602:306:c492:1ed0:: IPv6 prefix length: 60 IPv4 router: 12.83.49.81 IPv4 router mask length: 0 The router has an IPv6 address, and all of the PCs on the network are getting assigned IPv6 addresses. I can ping the router from the PCs, but if I try to ping Google public DNS (2001:4860:4860::8888) it times out. So something is clearly not right with the configuration. I've tried a couple of other prefixes and lengths, generated by scripts that people have posted online, but they don't help. Can someone please help me figure out what I'm missing? It's just frustrating because ATT is so opaque about whether this should even be possible... I'm wondering if they need to provision IPv6 for my account or something? EDIT: Changed IPv6 prefix, since I read that it's actually a function of your IPv4 address.

In the chicagoland and have been getting promotions for max turbo and power. Is there any way with my current lines that I could have them upgraded to support those or am I hosed with maybe getting max plus?

Assuming I am given a 10.x.x.x IP how can I set up the Port forwarding function such that I can FTP to that server from the Internet WAN? Example if I need to get to the Webmin function ( a webapp ) at say Port 10000 and I am at a Starbucks what would I type into the Browser URL field on my laptop?

Bitloading graph and question about line for upgrading.

I just had some questions about my line and wanting to ask about the quality and how it looked. We are currently on the 18 Mbps plan and were wanting to upgrade to the 24 or 45 Mbps plan. I know that the line most likely cannot use the 45 the way it is now but wanted to see how it would check out for at lest the 25 Mbps plan. We do not have TV on the line yet but in the next coming months we will most likely be adding it as well. We do have ATT VoiP on it though. We had some issues with the line dropping in and out when it was initially installed by ATT while they were installing it and they had to switch pairs outside the house. I just wanted to get some opinions about it that I may be able to bring up to ATT if need be when I call them.
