This seems like a trivial question, but with all the unique and individual situations for each setup I wanted to broaden the question to be general so that it might be applicable to more people:
If an individual is further than 2,200 feet and less than 3,000 feet from the VRAD is a 32/5 or any higher profile possible under the best of line conditions?
The reason I ask is this: I get the theory behind the physics involved here, yet it appears that in application things get significantly more complicated.
As a last matter to note I am somewhere on the latter end of that range 2,600-2,800 feet. Currently on the 25/2 with 18Mbs internet and 3HD/1SD profile AT&T Uverse service. Absolutely no errors on the line and utilizing the full 25/2 at any given time causes zero issues at all.
Any information that can provided would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT x1: Line is VDSL2 with FTTN

Use RG as a router?
Story: I've been a uVerse internet-only customer for a little over three years. Service has been good, but I just found out that the price is going up again next month. Local cable is offering 15 Mbps (I'm on 12 just now) for over $20 less than I'll be paying. I left cable because of the prices going up, and it may be time to do the same with AT&T.
Question: I own my RG - what I'd like to do is use it as a router for the cable service if I change :), meaning the wifi (coverage is better than any router I've ever used) remains the same and there's minimal hassle in changing service. Can this be done?

Mis-Matched Bonded Pair Line Length and Status Page Review
I recently had U-verse internet (Max Plus 18 Mbps) and phone installed. So far I've been generally pleased, the connection has been much more stable than my old DSL 6 Mbps plan. I did have to call support and when the line tech came out he mentioned something about a "mismatched" line length in our bonded pair service and needing another service call where the tech can find another copper pair.
Any thoughts or recommendations for me to follow-up? Anything I need to ask the line tech or make sure happens? I just want to be able to talk more intelligently about what he mentioned.
Here is a shot of the current broadband status. Please let me know if I should attach a different statistics screen. Not sure it matters, but I do have an Asus RT-N66W setup behind the Motorola NVG589 RG.
Thanks for any help!

Talk me into uverse
a bit of background: I've had ATT DSL for a looonng time..
Lately they have been nagging me to "upgrade" to uverse..
unfortunately I have a few problems w/ this
1)AFAIKT uverse is "limited" as to usage volume.
2)Requires their "gateway".. though I do possess a uverse modem (obviously not using it)
3)My local area doesn't have "TV" to bundle with.. leaving me w/ only able to bundle landline and DSL
4)"savings".. after install fee ect seems to be no cheaper on a year to year basis as is my current DSL...
I'm really seeing no reason to accept their "generous" offer.. am I missing anything??
Oh and lately their line quality/service has been terrible but I sometimes think this is just a "plot" on their part.

Why does ATT cancel appt's without notice, no show?
U-Verse installation cancels at end of schedule time on 2-8-14, re-schedules this date 2-14-14, cancels w/out notice.
ATT DSL service previously failed to show up or contact on 12-21-14, later advised I "need u-verse" because copper lines are bad.
3 days off of work, compensation offer is insulting $50.00 - still bad DSL and no U-verse installed.

12/1 Max speed here, worth it to bother them?
For a long time (either 2007 or 2008) we've had "uverse" internet at 12/1, and I'm getting a little sick of it. I live 14 miles away from Grand Rapids, MI.
Is it worth it to go down to an at&t store and ask them for an update on a supposed new line they put in to have a faster speed? Is there some sort of public update page?
Sorry for the vague questions, I'm just trying to gather as much information as I can.
PS: I see in some other threads people are installing some software called "UV Realtime". This software does not work on my computer. For one thing something called "rrdtool" doesn't install at all because of the error "a newer version of visual basic C++ 2010 runtime is installed on this computer" and instead of just saying ok the only option is to not install it. But another thing is I doubt it would work anyway because I don't have the gateway/router/modem listed on the page, I have a Motorola NVG510.
Also, ask as many questions as you want to me, Ill try to answer them as best as I can.
TL;DR: I want faster internet, what do?

Similar boat as Jeff -- Uverse upgrade or not?
I am in the same boat as Jeff.
- Long time at&t dsl user, never get anything better than 800k
- In a semi-rural area, south of San Jose
- Getting a lot of sales calls asking me to upgrade
- Only qualified for 'Express' level of service
- Qualification is 'IPDSLAM-Account'
I don't mind paying a little more for an improved service from AT&T. But, this time I really want to know the details behind what I am paying for and I plan on using the tools here @ DSL reports to make them keep their commitment.
I am being offered U-Verse Internet only Express for $39 a mo. Currently I pay ~$20 for DSL Express.
Looks like the best I can do is ADSL2+ connection, which seems capable of up to 24MB on a single pair, 48MB on a bonded pair. However, I have been told repeatedly that I can only qualify for 1.5 MB service. I know I have spare wires @ the residence. Not sure about the condition of the wire. I also know that I am only about 2 miles from my co - SNMACA11. So the issue must be the distance to the DSLAM.
Here are the ADSL2+ 'best case' connection types - best to worst:
- ADSL2+ pair-bonded w/Annex M - upto 48 MB, improved upload speed
- ADSL2+ pair-bonded - upto 48 MB
- ADSL2+ single pair w/Annex M - upto 24 MB, improved upload speed
- ADSL2+ single - up to 24 MB
If I'm getting it correctly, for me, the ADSL2+ connection to the ALU 7330 ISAM @ the CO is 2.5 miles (~1350 feet) away. So if got all this correct, and I want to upgrade my throughput, my only option is to ask/pay for a bonded pair.
Can you guys correct any of the details I have wrong or provide other ideas?
Thanks in advance,
-BillT

upgrade to fttp?
I was asked if I noticed the construction going on around here, because, as the man in the AT&T hoodie said, they are upgrading to "fiber" in our area. I live in the 60110 area code, the co. is about 1 1/2 miles away in East Dundee. Pretty sure there is no upgrade going on. Anyone have insight?

Uverse resellers
Are there any "good" resellser? My address qualifies for Uverse but i don't really want att direct since i work with their tech support enough as it is for work and don't want to come up and deal with it as well if needed. In addition hoping to save a few bucks possibly.
The re-seller I used to have at my last apartment(DSL Extreme) doesn't offer service on ATT without a phone line and doesn't do uverse(I was in frontier area before) My address also qualifies for non-uverse dsl but only at 1.5Meg(and even then i checked the loop length estimates my self and that would be cutting it close)

Constant picture freeze at night
12mb, 2 wireless receivers, 1 wired receiver, nvg589
uVerse was just installed and were experiencing constant picture freezes especially in the evening.
Speed tests average 5mb which is horrible. I change the wireless channel to 1 today just to seen if that will help anything.
Any help is appreciated.

Questions about uverse in st. ann (st. louis county) mo 63074
I have searched on here but have not found very much information on this.
I am getting uverse installed on the 25th and have a few questions for what to expect from the tech.
I am paying for the 45meg internet. How close to that should I expect to get
A few months ago att replaced all the cables running by my house on the poles but not the cable running to my house. The cable running to my house has been there for several years. Should that get replaced?
What should I expect for tv and internet equipment to make sure The tech does not give me outdated equipment.
From the gray box on the outside of the house does att still use a cat3 cable through the house to the equipment or coax cable?

Wireless TV problem
We have the whole house DVR system with the main unit wired with Cat 5 and a 2nd one being wireless. Several times a week we lose signal on the wireless receiver and have to reboot it to regain the connection. It's almost directly below the RG (589) which is on the 2nd floor of the total distance is 12 feet or less. The wireless system has are been replaced once for this problem with no improvement. Does anybody have any ideas or should I just have them come and wire it Cat 5 like the other one?

FTTP vs FTTN U-Verse, how to check availability?
Hey there, I had 12/1.5 ADSL2+ before on fastpath. I loved it for gaming, very low and rock solid latency. Started gaming again so I was looking to pickup the service, but was notified that it's no longer available as my area has been recently upgraded for U-Verse, up to 45/6. I've read that there's an FTTH and VDSL version of U-Verse out there. A friend of mine in Fort Worth is on the VDSL variant which is interleave, higher and more unstable ping.
Is there anyway to check if what's now available in my area is the FTTH or the VDSL variant? Low, stable latency is everything to me and my main reason for getting the service back (TWC is terrible) but if I'm stuck on VDSL then it kind of defeats the purpose.
My zip is 75240

Uverse HSI self-install vs pro-install at different tiers
I am in the process of ordering Uverse internet only (no TV). When making my selections, I see that Max (12Mbps) has self install available while Max Plus (18Mbps) and higher require pro install. What are the hardware requirements or differences between the tiers? I read somewhere else on this forum that a user has a CAT5e cable running directly from the NID to the RG. Is that the only difference of self vs pro install?

Goodbye U-Verse
It's been fun, the 24/3 service I had was actually working quite well for the 3 years I had it. But I could not pass up a 50/5 deal for $59.95 from Time Warner Cable (plus $5.99 equipment rental) and added phone service for $10, plus $2.95 for international. All in all I am paying LESS then $80 for what I was paying AT&T over $100 for (with the phone line included), and a nice bonus was actually finding out today all 50/5 accounts got upgraded to 100/5 without price increase.
100 Mbps, sorry but that trumps AT&T any day. So I wish you all the best here, and I will now change favorites on forums. Good luck and thank you for letting me be here, although I was mostly lurking the last year or so.
Ciao!

Trying to learn/qualify for Power Tier
Hi Folks,
I've been blissfully ignorant of my Uverse service (18/1) for four years now. It works OK for internet service, however when watching Hulu or Aereo I get an occasional buffering event that freezes the video. Sometimes it recovers, most times it does not. I used to have Uverse TV but cancelled it because I only watch about 1 hour of TV per day. I do work from home quite a bit and would like to have improved service.
I finally decided to look further into this and quickly got lost in the terminology (learning) however I'm beginning to see a few things and need your help. As I learned more I decided to ask for manual qualification of a Power tier 45/6 since I see that others have had success in my area.
I have downloaded UV Realtime and the initial readings are posted above. I read some of the supporting documentation for Realtime however with my limited knowledge to date I am not sure of what I am seeing. I would appreciate your input on the stats above to help me learn more about Uverse. I'd like to be an educated Customer when (if) I get Power tier service. Thanks.

Has anyone had to turn off IPv6 on their NVG589?
Has anyone had to turn off IPv6 on their NVG589? A week or so ago I had to disable IPv6 on the LAN side of the NVG589 and reboot my LAN devices because for whatever reason getting to IPv6 known sites was very unreliable. Any IPv4 sites were fine but IPv6 sites was unreliable.
What is AT&T doing with their implementation of IPv6? Have they broke it again?
