AT&T blocking IPv6 tunnels -- update

Back in August I posted a message about AT&T blocking IPv6 tunnels as of the 6.9.1.42-enh.tm firmware on the Uverse 3801HGV residential gateway. http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r28530086-AT-T-now-blocking-IPv6-tunnels There was some discussion about whether it was on purpose or just a big oops, but after about 8 months -- the firmware started rolling out around June I think -- without resolution I finally decided to make a complaint to the FCC since I felt it does qualify as violating the spirit of the open Internet, as quaint as that notion might now seem after the Verizon ruling. Anyway, I just received a bizarre call from AT&T in response to my FCC complaint. They said they are blocking IPv6 tunnels intentionally because it exposed a "vulnerability in their network" that allows one to access other networks. I said that, as a networking professional, that sounds like the entire purpose of the Internet -- accessing other networks -- and she yelled back "THAT'S NOT TRUE!" She clarified that by creating an IPv6 tunnel you are being allocated a static IPv6 address from a third party that you can use to get back into your own network, bypassing AT&T and without paying AT&T extra for a static address. So, I don't know if this is just some customer service person reading off of a script without really knowing what the words mean and getting it all wrong, or if AT&T just admitted that they're not filtering IPv6 tunnels by accident but because they haven't found a way to extract money from us for the privilege. Either way, pretty weird, and for all those affected, I wouldn't expect a fix any time soon.

Speed Predicament -- 3200ft

Being 3200ft from the VRAD, but having these stats, would I be able/eligible to get the Power Tier and/or at least Max Turbo? (Follow-up to http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r28931772-New-Uverse-User-w-Line-Stats-Advice-From-You-) EDIT: It seems that I am now on the 55 Meg profile, which I did not realize. Before, I was on the 25 Meg profile. Sure enough, I can now not only order Max Turbo, but I can now order Power internet at my address! All of my neighbors still show the 18 meg package as highest available speed. Is this the first time someone relatively far from the VRAD had been able to order 45/6 internet and/or been stable on a 55 meg profile?

OK...this is getting very annoying...

Once again I have had several recordings just randomly disappear off my DVR. They were all marked save until I delete and were various things...a couple of movies from HBO, a show from Showtime and a prime time show off the FOX network. This is not the first time this has happened and each time I have been told by tech support there is nothing that can be done to recover the lost programming nor is there anything wrong with my line or service. If there truly is no issue with my line/service then why the hell does this keep happening!? I'm on the verge of making the switch to DirecTV or back to Time Warner even though I am happy with UVerse outside of this issue.

Did I get moved to a K Card?

Just noticed looking at my 3800 RG's stats that I am now seeing "upstream" -- Appears my modem retrained/re synced about a day ago.. ( I only have Uverse TV right now so I didn't notice any drops since I am not watching tv at the time it resynced) prior to that I was not seeing any upstream and had "sync" rates around 59,000 kbps .. This is what I am seeing now: User Rate 32200 kbs 5040 kbs Max User Rate 64000 kbs 9405 kbs Noise Margin 25.0 dB 17.7 dB Attenuation 7.0 dB 7.8 dB Output Power 14.2 dBm -23.2 dBm I am guessing I am now on a K Card instead of F Card.

I keep reading posts about switches...managed vs unmanaged...flooding the network with multicast traffic. My question is it a big deal or cause major problems to have a switch that isn't managed?

Trying to learn/qualify for Power Tier

Hi Folks, I've been blissfully ignorant of my Uverse service (18/1) for four years now. It works OK for internet service, however when watching Hulu or Aereo I get an occasional buffering event that freezes the video. Sometimes it recovers, most times it does not. I used to have Uverse TV but cancelled it because I only watch about 1 hour of TV per day. I do work from home quite a bit and would like to have improved service. I finally decided to look further into this and quickly got lost in the terminology (learning) however I'm beginning to see a few things and need your help. As I learned more I decided to ask for manual qualification of a Power tier 45/6 since I see that others have had success in my area. I have downloaded UV Realtime and the initial readings are posted above. I read some of the supporting documentation for Realtime however with my limited knowledge to date I am not sure of what I am seeing. I would appreciate your input on the stats above to help me learn more about Uverse. I'd like to be an educated Customer when (if) I get Power tier service. Thanks.

Replaced 2Wire 3800 With ATT 5031NV

Hey Folks, I have been having issues with my ATT Uverse internet and ATT came out and replaced wiring, jacks, etc, and my 2Wire 3800 with a ATT 5031NV for our business. We have the 16 gb plan and this new router seems slower, is the 5031NV supposed to be for business or residential customers, is it better than my old router? Thanks M

Uverse iPSU strange behavior

My uverse iPSU is acting strangely. The light on the right side will flash red most of the time and then go back to green. Yesterday the light on the left (power) started flashing red and all services quit working. I reset the iPSU with a bobby pin and both lights flashed red, still no service. Called and could not get technician there until the next day. 2 hours later both lights are green on the iPSU and all services are working again. It has now been working for 16 hrs and I still have a tech scheduled today between 4 and 8. Should I cancel? If not, will he do anything if both lights are still green?

Issues at new address with getting anything above Pro

I moved my Uverse service recently and seem to be having trouble with over the phone agents as to why I cannot get anything above the Pro internet speed. The install tech said I was 1500-1800 feet from the vrad so I should be able to get any a better level than what I am stuck with right now. The tech I have been speaking to on the phone has said there is trouble pushing any sort of speed upgrade to my modem. Here are some UV Realtime images to see if anyone here might have an idea of what could be causing it.

75 Mbps and beyond...

I'm surprised we haven't heard any details about single line Power Tier and the 75 Mbps and beyond plans. If I remember correctly they were supposed to be coming by the end of 1Q 2014 or the end of the 1H 2014 at the latest. Also, what of the mysterious NVG599? Has anyone heard anything? Any ATT people, overt or covert, wish to provide us any insights/tidbits?

what's the limit on wireless stb

i have scheduled the power tier upgrade today and i know he has to run the cat5 cable and will have to get into the crawl space to do it, but i was wondering maybe i could help out the situation by putting the gateway in the closest room to the garage... in other words, the only real run would be from the nid through the wall opposite it which is the garage... then from the garage to the closest room which would just mean another hole in a wall as opposed to running it under the house to the living room... that would leave the living room + 2 other rooms needing wireless stb is there a limit on wireless stb on the nvg589?

High Ping/Jitter

I'm using AT&T U-verse and I'm on 2wire. My internet is good for about 70% of the day, but it randomly starts to give me extremely high ping & jitter. I would play a game and it would be smooth in the morning, and then it would randomly give me 300-400 ping constantly and then drop again later in the day. Then it happens at night again sometimes. Does anyone know why?? [att=1] [att=2]

NVG589 install today but i see a "WARNING No battery or battery has no charge" in status. The tech did leave behind the Belkin Rev B (grey) backup unit. How necessary is the backup unit and/or battery for the RG... yes i do have phone service but what good is a powered gateway during an outage when the phone power is out. i don't think i understand

Uverse in SF speed limits, customer retention discount

$

I think it's crazy that here in SF, the heart of Silicon Valley, I can't get Internet speeds higher than 6mb/s download speeds. I went to their website and saw that they were offering my package, called "elite" (nice try, more like "would have been elite in 1993"), for $34.95 a month to new users. I am currently paying $45 a month for this absolute joke of a service. So I called their regular Uverse line, and when I explained the situation, I was transferred to the magical department called "retention." Having worked for certain telecom companies before, I know that they will go to great lengths to keep customers, especially ones like me who have been being anally violated by them for many years. So they offered me the price they're offering new customers pretty much right away. Just wanted to let people know that you do have certain protocols to go through if you are paying too much for Uverse, and I'm sure other companies would do this as well.

ATT Running Fiber

ATT is running fiber right by my neighborhood underground. Any chance they are running FTTH to existing developments? I have Charter now, but my home phone would be served by an ATT POTS line if I had service. I'm assuming it will be regular FTTN UVerse which I would not switch over to. FTTH on the other hand...

New Outlook Config required after Uverse Internet Cancellation?

After 14 years with Ameritech/SBC/ATT (I was aming the first retail DSL customers in Chicago) I cancelled my Uverse Internet Max this week before the price climbed to $51, and then to $56 next month. My long-term "ameritech" email address was long-ago merged with Yahoo and is accessible from the Yahoo email website, so it's "safe." But, I used Outlook and POP to access my email. Will I be needing to change POP or SMTP servers, or ports, or anything like that? (POP will continue to function at the Yahoo end because they recently upgraded their basic free email capapabilities to include POP, filters, disposable addresses, etc. See my thread to that effect in the ATT DSL forum).

Can Forcing a Cable Signal to a TV Harm TV?

Was on the phone with U-Verse about a getting a broken remote replaced. For some unknown reason the associate wanted to force a signal to our receiver to see if there was a problem with the receiver and not the remote. As of this point there was absolutely nothing wrong with the TV or the U-Verse receiver. When the associate was sending the forced signal to our box all of a sudden the TV lost the signal and was not able to get it back. They ended up having to send a tech to our house who replaced the receiver and tried everything he knew to do. They left and were not able to get the signal up using the HDMI cable that previously had been used. We tried other HDMI cables and ports with no such luck. The tech believes the problem is with the HDMI ports obviously since there is A/V with the A/V cables plugged in. My question is there anyway them forcing that signal to our TV could screw up the HDMI ports? Because that would be one hell of a coincidence.
