I have some questions regarding business class U-verse.
1)can I connect my current home network without paying for gateway?
*my home is Cat 5 wired with 16 port switch to linksys router.
2) my home is wired with 2 Pots lines. Office and home. The office line has one phone connected and DSL on this line as we'll via filter. What are my fax options?
I have a second phone number that currently rings twice for my fax. I want a very stable up connection of 1 meg or higher and my current Business ADSL is I believe 768up and 6 meg down. I hear the U-verse business class will drop my bill and be a much stronger connection. We have a small file server the guys pull from connected to my office.

DSLreports speed test hanging up with U-verse 6mbd.
Hangs with all sites. Says the line is un-pingable, but using CMD get a good ping. I was using DSL ATT. 1.2 mbd. Other speed test like www.speedtest.net. show a 5.6mbd speed. Actual experience is some sights are taking almost a minute to load. Help needed to understand what could be the problem so I can tell U-verse people. Line test are good.

I am thinking of canceling my Att account after years
I have had Att dsl and now Uverse for probably ten years or so. It used to be great then the cap was enforced and I noticed my service wasnt as reliable. I call and talk to a rep and was feed misinformation and also told my Uverse would only be 35/month. I just log on to check my bill and it is a 45/month charge. The service is not reliable at all, every single day I experience multiple outages. They may not last long but they do happen. I can remember years ago on my dsl line this wasnt an issue. I am seriously considering dropping the service, I simply do not appreciate being lied to multiple times by their reps

Why does "News" trump Forum?
Discussion of AT&T U-verse related issues should occur here, in the forum dedicated to that service, not on "the home page" which is one guy's soapbox. :uhh:

U-Verse DVR hard drive upgrade while keeping the recordings
I have been racking my brain and the U-Verse box on how to upgrade the hard drive and still maintain all my recordings.
***Please remember you are doing this on your own and you are voiding the warranty and whatever else AT&T decides to do. I still don't know why they just don't install a bigger hard drive and save everyone the headache, or even give you the option to pay a little more and get it that way. Oh well
Upgrading the hard drive is as simple as removing the old hard drive and placing a new hard drive, the letting the system do its thing. You can see how that is done using this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-WvBTiqkJM.
After hours and hours of research and web searches I finally found this http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?t=984998 that show you how to upgrade the hard drive to a larger one, and still maintain the recordings. The explanation was good, but it didn't have all the details necessary to actually perform the upgrade, so I kept trying back and forth till I finally got it. I have to admit I would have never figured it out on my own. Now here we are with a solution, finally. I hope this helps others instead of them wasting their time.
I have only done this with the U-Verse VIP1225 that has a 250GB and upgraded it to a 1.5TB. Based on the posts and the amount of space I ended up with, 1TB is the max the system will recognize, but I already had the drive and it was 1.5TB and it was the green drive, still worked perfectly. The box I had had a SATA drive, I heard that older ones use ATA, so check before continuing, the procedure should still work, but I can't guarantee it. So I will do my best to outline the procedure:
1. Power off the unit and unplug it
2. Remove the hard drive as shown in the 1st link
3. Install a new hard drive, plug the power and let it boot. This took a long time, maybe 2 hours. Once it is done and the system is back up, you will see that the recordings show nothing and the space available is huge.
4. Do steps 1 & 2 again
5. Hook up the 2 hard drives to your computer and see what you have. You will notice that each drive has 2 partitions. The 2nd partition of each drive has the files you need.
****DONT MIX UP THE DRIVES WHILE YOU ARE LOOKING ON THE COMPUTER OR MODIFYING/COPYING THE FILES. YOU WILL LOSE YOUR RECORDINGS.
6. On the new drive in the 2nd partition, you want to get how many files are in the directory dvrvol. Write this number down you will use it later.
7. Wipe out the new drive and all the partitions; I used Disk Management for this. In Windows Start-->Run-->type diskmgmt.msc and that will bring up Disk Management. I deleted all the volumes in the new drive. Please be careful when using this, you could accidentally remove your OS, any important files, or the original drive from the U-Verse box.
8. Once that is done, use EaseUS Todo Backup Free to clone the drive:
A. Select Clone --> Disk clone
B. Select for Clone Source, the original U-Verse hard drive
C. Select for Target Location, the new hard drive
D. Check the box for Sector by Sector Clone
E. Select Next
F. Do not modify anything else. I know it shows that there is unallocated space, dont worry about it, the U-Verse box will take care of that.
G. This will take about 2 hours
9. Copy the file dvr.mrt from the original U-Verse hard drive to your computers hard drive
10. The original U-Verse 250 GB hard drive had had in the dvrvol directory 193 slc files. My new hard drive showed 999 slc files when I viewed it in step 6.
11. Now we need to get the number of files in HEX format. You can use any online converter for this; I used this http://www.rapidtables.com/convert/number/decimal-to-hex.htm. Based on the files I found the following:
A. For 193 slc files -->C1
B. For 999 slc files --> 3E7 *This is from step 6
12. Now we have to convert these numbers to get the value we need.
A. 1st we need to change the value to 4 digits by adding zero(s) to the front so
1. For C1 --> 00C1
2. For 3E7 --> 03E7
B. Next we need to move the last number to the front of then number:
1. For 00C1 --> 10 0C
2. For 03E7 --> 70 3E
13. New you need a HEX file editor. I used HxD which you can find at this http://mh-nexus.de/en/hxd/. Once installed open the file dvr.mrt that you copied to your own hard drive in step 9. Dont mess around with the original. We need to modify decimal position 172 & 173 in the file
14. After the file opens go to Search --> GoTo
15. In the popup window check the dec box and type 172. At that position, you will find that the values for 172 and 173 are 10 0C. You will need to update them to the new values. In my case the new values were 70 3E. Save the file.
16. Now override the existing file in the new hard drive with the file we modified in step 15.
17. Install the hard drive and power up the system. In my case this took about ½ hour will it made all the necessary changes.
After completing this process you will find that the new hard drive has all your recordings and now show a lot of free space depending on the size of the new drive you installed. Let me know if you have any questions. I hope this helps everyone out there.

Modem disconnects when phone answered
We have been having this problem since we were switched to Uverse pro internet. When we make a call, or recieve a call, the modem disconnects ( internet light turns red ). It comes back on in about a minute. We have a Motorola modem 2210-02-1 style MIPDSLA. I have a filter on the phone line. I have tried both the split filter and no filter on the modem line, the same issue occurs. We have switched filters and phone jacks - same issue. I have read somewhere that it may be that we have an MTU on our line and that ATT can check for that. How do we arrange that?

Uverse power= android wifi apps slow
So i am having some major issues trying to figure things out. Ever since I upgraded to pair bonded, 45mbs service, all my android devices take a long time loading native apps such as youtube and facebook. All other apps work fine.
I have had this setup when I had the 2wire router which worked perfectly.
Setup- I have the new motorola 589 router that is hooked to the new tower airport extreme. then I have another airport extreme hooked up via ethernet and and airport express via ethernet to set up a roaming network. The 589 has wifi turned off.
Test performed: Both my wifes s4 and my note 3 have the same issue. However, if i use the android web browser, facebook and youtube work instantly. I have tried enabling the 589 wifi and testing with that with same results.
Speed test on androids show between 25mbs and 38mbs, so i know speed is not an issue.
It seems as if the new RG is blocking/delaying access to the sites that the native apps are calling for. If i tuen off wifi and hop on 4g, they pop up right away, so i pinpointed it to uverse.
ANy help with this would be great!
Ive attached some line stats as well.

Motorola NVG510 serious problems
I have AT&T internet service. The router they have installed is the NVG510 and the connection is miserable. God awful. It is out more times than it is up.
Sometimes Broadband will be down and line state is up, sometimes both are down.
Can someone help me out on possible causes? I haven't been able to see a common denominator between the disconnects but what do I know. I have reset it manually and via the routers website, changed transmit channels, hell I have pretty much tweaked with every possible setting with no luck.
When I run the router websites diagnostic test, its always the ethernet and authentication tests that show as fail. I have no idea if any of this info will help, but i figured I would post it in case you needed it. Also if you need other data to know more info just let me know.

Uverse and POTS
I've had Uverse for about a year and recently had POTS enabled. They did have to send a tech out because it appears POTS had never been hooked up.
NID:
http://www.ghideon.com/nid.jpg
The only thing hooked up (from what I can tell) is the 3rd block. I've confirmed I can get dial tone on the test jack from that location, and it is also what is carrying the DSL signal.
http://www.ghideon.com/home.jpg
That's the panel at the end of the run in the closet. What is the device with the two gray cables (I removed the cover)? One side runs down to the NID, and the other runs to the master bedroom where the modem is located.
I'm trying to figure out where I should plug/splice in for POTS, and whether or not I've already got the filters or splitters in the right place.
Thanks

Installation frustration
I called AT&T two weeks before my move into a newly built house to schedule my installation of Gigapower. The day before my installation, I was called and told they ran out of ports in the box down the street, and the deadline to fix that was 2/4. Needless to say, I was very frustrated. I called AT&T two weeks in advance in order to make sure the fiber could be pulled by the time I moved in.
I called today to see if engineering was still on schedule to fix the problem for 2/4. I was told the problem definitely won't be fixed by 2/4, and there is now no ETA for the fix. I will just 'receive a call' when engineering has resolved the issue to reschedule my install.

DVR in Rebooting Loop
Also posted in the AT&T forums... not getting much response.
I woke up this morning to the power button blinking. The blue light also blinked when the power button was blinking.
When I turned it on, it says "DVR system is starting. Please wait," the screen shows weird half-screen or horizontal line static (like corrupt next page) and then it would reboot again and again. I've tried to do the soft reboot (hold power for 10 seconds) and the hard reboot (power and OK for 5-10 seconds). I haven't done the last resort disaster recovery since I have DVR stuff I want to watch! All cable connections (ethernet and HDMI) have been checked and are secure.
Seems like a corrupt update or something? How can I re-download an update or resolve this problem?
This is a fairly new Motorola VIP2250...
Thanks!

ATT U-Verse NVG510 issues
Hi all,
I have the NVG510, which is a major PITA. I need the modem in bridge mode, and here is what happened.
1. I followed the instruction (http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r27836725-Rooting-the-NVG510-for-true-bridge-mode) to root the device. The rooting worked wonderfully, however the issue is that my router (Asus RT-N16) would loose DHCP connectivity periodically, and I either had to manually renew DHCP, or use a script to renew it.
2. I put the modem in "IP passthrough" mode (http://help.activepbx.com/KB/a84/how-to-put-an-att-nvg510-router-in-bridge-mode.aspx) or ATT's official instruction (www.att.com/gen/general?pid=23697). It worked. However, the IP passthrough setting would lost and my router would get a private IP perioidically. I have to click the save button under "IP passthrough" to re-enable the setting.
This is driving me crazy. Any help is highly appreciated.
Thank you,
Jerry

Kansas City Area--Potential Change from Time Warner to AT&T U-verse
We are long-term Time Warner users (internet, tv & phone). Considering the switch to U-verse as the monthly fees seem to be somewhat less.
Any thoughts...pro...con...or others who have done this and lived to tell about it.
Thanks!

audio dropouts today?
I use to have a lot of audio dropouts with the old receivers paired with my digital sound system and all was good for more than a year after I upgraded to the newer black boxes.
Anyone else noticing any issues today? I am watching FoxBusiness right now. I am going to check other channels to troubleshoot now.

U-Verse and POTS telephone wiring question
I am wiring an office that currently has U-Verse internet and POTS telephone. Can I use a single filter on the phone line in the wiring closet and then distribute the analog phone to multiple outlets? Or do I need to put filters at each phone location?

quick question about 45/6 upgrade
i already asked this in Direct but i'll ask here for your thoughts...
i'm already on uverse with good service using coax (tech didn't want to run cat5 under the house)
[att=1]
[att=2]
everything is fine but we want to upgrade to the power tier.... tech is coming out thursday... now, everything is currently set up for 1 line and it's on coax... but this house's coax cable line is actually 2 coax cables
[att=3]
i realize that power tier is 2 lines and they require a new cat5 line put in for installation, but what about the case where there are already 2 coax lines running through the house? since it was ok for service in the lower uverse tiers, would 2 work for the power tier?

NVG589
I have a light flashing red, it's the light right above the arrows. All lights are green and everything appears to be working ok. The other day everything stopped working. I don't know if it was a short power outage because later is the day the power went out and then back on. I turned the power off to everything at the time and everything came back up (internet, phone, tv) but since the red light constantly flashes. I've hidden the device behind the tv because it's sort of annoying for it to flash red. Is there a reason for this? I tried a reset, unplug still flashes.
