Moving RG with longer cable, but no connection

Hello! I have an interesting situation and hope the gurus here have an answer. I am a U-Verse customer, voice and Internet only. Modem is a 3801HGV. When it was installed, AT&T placed the RG in the room where the phone lines attached to my house. New wire was run from the terminal box to the pole, and a Cat-5 line from the terminal box into my room. The problem: the RG’s wireless is too weak to completely cover my house. I’ve tried using signal repeaters, but I would rather have a single wireless. I want to move the RG to be more central. I bought a 25’ Amphenol Cat-5 with RJ14 ends. I tested the cable with a 2-line phone and the pairs have continuity. But… when I use this cable with my RG, the RG cannot establish connection. The broadband light flashes green, then red, then the unit restarts. So to test more: I have two 10’ 2-pair cables I’ve used with the RG before. Each cable works fine between the wall jack and the RG. But if I put them together (using a cat-5 coupler) the modem cannot establish a connection. Same symptoms as the 25’ cable. When U-Verse was first installed, the tech told me I was on the edge at 2900 feet or so. I only ordered Internet and voice, and during the installation he strongly recommended I do not attempt to use the TV product. I normally do not have any problems with my connection, 25 down, 2 up. So my question: where can I go from here? I’m guessing the extra cable length is just “too far” but adding 10~15 feet seems to be cutting things too close. What tests can I run to narrow down the issue? Thanks!

A tech ran a new line to our modem today, using cat5 instead of the houses existing wiring and also replaced our old Motorola 2210-02-1ATT with the NVG510. Anyone used this modem? Is it more reliable than the older model?

switching to TW

Currently I have uVerse with 12mb download speeds. IT drops to 4-5mb downloads in the evening. I would love to get rid of it. Plus it's $40/month. I keep reading about the Motorola SB6141 so I would buy that router/modem. As far as quality goes I have no idea why my internet drops so low at night, How is TW quality in SE WI? Can anyone give a recommendation? Overall is TW internet better than fiber uVerse?

Got uverse installed yesterday with u300 tv and max plus internet. New aerial drop, cat5 homerun from nid, Cisco 3801HGV gateway, 2 wireless receivers, 1 dvr, whatever wap for the wireless receivers. Before any tv's were hooked up I was getting almost 24mbit down with tv's going I'm testing at almost 22mbit down right now on a wired connection. WiFi however on any device is closer to about 13mbit. Any ideas? -- Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.

Ok.. So here is what has to be done if you are using a Motorola NVG589 Modem that resets all your caller id devices on your phone line to the GMT time. Contact tech support and have them do these steps. (You will find the most tech's have not heard of this issue. but here is the steps you can tell them to resolve this issue. Through AT&T Tech Support. Run a end to end reprobition on bbnms, and to also run a policy restore on g2, g2+ check mod and make sure it is set to correct time. reset ngv589 this should fix the issue.. it did for me..

The title pretty much says it all; AT&T is installing Uverse -- U450 and Max Plus (18M) -- in my home this Thursday. Hopefully I get a decent tech, because chances are I know this system much better than (s)he does :) Plus, it'll be an easy install. I'll have one DVR, 2 wired STB's, and one wireless. When I moved into this home (10/2013) I dropped 2 RG6 and 2-6 CAT6 drops into each room. The coax remains in the attic, but the networking stuff hits a 16U wall mounted swing frame in my garage. All cables are terminated on ADC CAT5 RJ-RJ panels, and ran up to a 24 port Cisco Catalyst 2950. Yes, a 10/100M switch. This thing has been absolutely rock solid, and hasn't even hiccuped since install. Eventually I'll step up to a 1G switch, but I don't have a reason as of now. I'm going to make a bracket and mount whatever RG I get and a Netgear GS105 (or 108 if I can find it) in the frame. This way my network will be isolated, and will not catch any of the multicast traffic. Wireless will be split between my Asus RT-AC66N (N devices and AC when I finally get some) and an ancient Cisco Aironet 1200 (converted to IOS and G). I kind of wanted to keep everything wired, but the wireless box will be a good "floater." It'll work great in my office this winter, and on my pool deck in the summer! From previous experience the wireless boxes were much more responsive too. Maybe something has changed in the last 3 years tho...?

How do we get our DVR upgraded?

I have an old IPN430 which is a slow unit with a paltry 37 hours of hd recording time. Recently the hard drive has started to go bad. So I need a replacement but the problem is I don't want an IPN430, I want an ISB7500 or equivalent. I have been round and round between sales and technical support and billing. Nobody seems to be able to get this done. My neighbors are getting the new dvr, why am I being penalized for being a long time customer.

What is your speed tier and the actual speed your getting? Speedtest shows 21.5/1.4 with 24ms ping from the 18/1.5 plan. Connection type? VDSL2(Fiber to node) Type of bundle or internet only? Internet and uverse voice RG model? Pace 5031NV

Lets compare profile rates/max rates/errors. Just want to see what most people have. I reset my router recently, so the errors aren't very accurate. I'll have to post again if this topic gets enough replies. [att=1]

Questions before a switch from Comcast

At this point I figure I can save about $25 a month switching to a comparable plan on Uverse from Xfinity, though Id drop from 25Mbps to 18. Not a deal breaker, plus im getting more movie channels and the total home dvr and wireless addon. The last time I had uverse, about 3 years ago while living with a friend, it was a bit underwhelming. I have some questions regarding the service now. 1. At that time the ondemand aspect of uverse was pretty bad. Selections paled in comparison to Comcast and it took much longer to get recently aired shows in the ondemand listings. Has that changed at all? 2. Picture quality was noticeably worse, not much, but enough that I could notice on identical TVs. Now that i have a 65" VT60 I don't necessarily want to deal with a worse signal/picture quality, though I pretty much only watch HD channels. 3. Will I have any issues running my DDWRT router off the Uverse gateway, and running all my internet, wireless and wired (phones, tablet, PS3/4), through that? 4. Anyone use a harmony remote with their unverse system? I have the One, any problems replicating features from that? I think that is about it for now. Thanks for the help!

Can't View Some Websites

Hi, My mom is having problem's with her computer. She only uses it for mild web browsing and checking email. Her computer is practically a year old. She has Uverse and certain webpages won't load i.e. Amazon.com, Aol.com, Target.com. Some websites like Aol.com will only load a basic HTML version of the site. No pictures. The pages will say they are connecting, but there is nothing but a white page and then it says Oops Google Chrome cannot load your page. I have cleared cache, histories, changed browsers, reset router, reinstalled Google Chrome...ran virus scans, C-Cleaner, anti-malware, nothing pops up. I have even called ATT and they checked internet speeds. No dice. Everything is fine. They suggested I call a technician or Acer (the make of her computer) even. One weird thing is that I have brought over her laptop to my apartment (I have Comcast) and all those websites load perfectly fine. So what can it be? Any ideas?

Uverse power NVG589 port forwarding issue

Hey guys, just got my NVG589 rg installed today along with the new 45mps service, but im having an issue using port forwarding for my cctv setup. In firewall, nat/gaming setup, im able to port forward 80 and 9000 with no issues, however when i try for 18004, it never opens up. IT shows as listed in the settings, but when i run a port test, or the camera software, it fails. Any ideas on what it could be? It worked fine with my old rg, but this one is being a bear!! Frank

Errors and Retrains on New Service -- Tech tomorrow

Alright, so my first issue. My service install completed around Thursday at 4pm. On Friday around 4pm I notice a TV freeze. I installed Realtime, and it showed a retrain with several other errors. Ok, it happens. Then on Saturday at 3am it happens again. Once again Realtime shows more errors with another retrain. The 500' estimate is on he high side -- unless they used some creative routing when they installed them. The DEMARC was replaced, the CAT5 cable going to the RG is in good shape, and everything inside the house is new. Tech will be here today (Saturday) between 12pm-4pm.

High Ping/Jitter

I'm using AT&T U-verse and I'm on 2wire. My internet is good for about 70% of the day, but it randomly starts to give me extremely high ping & jitter. I would play a game and it would be smooth in the morning, and then it would randomly give me 300-400 ping constantly and then drop again later in the day. Then it happens at night again sometimes. Does anyone know why?? [att=1] [att=2]

Unable to call cell phones when phone in Uverse modem

We had Uverse internet installed a few months ago and the installer suggested plugging our home phone into the modem they supplied for the Uverse internet because our phone wiring in the house needs to be rewired so we did he plugged it into the modem for us. It all works fine except we have not been able to call any cell phone numbers since doing this. When we dial a cell phone number, nothing happens. There is just silence. Does anyone know why this is happening? I think this is also happening for 1800 numbers as well because it has happened for those numbers too.

U-Verse TV out since yesterday in 92881

Sunday Night around 6PM I lost TV access. Internet is up, (I use Google DNS servers). I tried rebooting the box and RG, but I keep just getting a spinning AT&T U-Verse Page. My guess is the DNS servers are causing this as the RG/DVR can't communicate back to what ever controls the IPTV portion of service. I find it funny ATT tripped by there own DNS server!

Question About Uverse. Can two receivers be in two different buildings?

$

Hey, Question... I have two buildings. I spend half the year in one, half in the other. I have DirecTv. I could take my receiver from one building to the next but I don't. I have two different receivers, and one account. DirecTv believes they are both in the same house and it works fine for me. I don't mind paying for both since its reasonable. But I really like music videos and I'm tempted by channels like MTV Hits. One of the buildings has AT&T Internet only (the other area is served by a different Internet provider). I've never had Uverse TV but from what I know about it, it's an IPTV receiver. If I sign up with Uverse TV and get the receivers, do they have to be in the building with Uverse Internet or would it work on another companies Internet? Mostly asking out of curiosity... I don't think I'd switch providers just for music videos. But I've been considering how to affordably add the extra MTV suite channels into my lineup.
