I followed the other topic while I still had that device (BGW-210) and thought his would be useful going forward.
Current Firmware: 2.8.4
If anyone know has change notes or other details that would be welcome.

ATTN?? MIDWEST Fiber users, issues accessing certain sites
Chicago market here.
I noticed this few weeks back with inability to use adguard dns (94.140.14.14, 94.140.15.15). Neither of these responds to pings when on the att network and lookups fail. Pings and lookups work fine on neighbor's comcast.
Tonight I tried to update my truenas installation.
Comes back with - Unable to connect to url https://update-master.ixsystems.com/TrueNAS/trains.txt: Automatic update check failed. Please check system network settings." Again, this url resolves and opens just fine on comcast.
Tried downloading the iso too, https://download-core.sys.truenas.net/13.0/STABLE/U6.1/x64/TrueNAS-13.0-U6.1.iso , also craps out when on att.
With respect to the adguard dns, it wasn't a big deal as I am not using it. But accessing other sites is a concern and issue.
There's a number of posts about this on att's site. This one is relatively recent - https://forums.att.com/conversations/att-fiber-account/intermittent-access-to-third-party-dns-server/65e5dbf1d1337129dfddf55a
Another - https://forums.att.com/conversations/att-fiber-equipment/no-longer-able-to-use-3rdparty-dns-servers-after-12hour-outage/65dffa69d1337129dfdda619
Based on a discord convo few weeks ago, it seems something is broken with peering or routing in this particular region as nonmidwest users could ping the adguard site successfully.

My quest to flee from Comcast DOCSIS Midsplit insanity
My gawd.. Comcast/Xfinity is besides them selves with dysfunction. The mid-split mess and only approving iHAT ready devices and seemingly abandoning customers with self owned CPE like a Arris S33 along with them embroiled in a lawsuit 3-way with CPE makers MaxLinear and Broadcom,, and then using capping to impose banking style overdraft charges with no way to uncap online requiring a phone call now... With people cutting cords left and right to traditional cable services.. CableLabs being inept and poorly focused still stuck in the 80s and with DOCSIS 4 still getting revisions nearly daily, not to mention D3.1 getting updates more frequently then HDMI.. Of course Comcast has a solution, use thier leased boxes. Which many still have Puma chips. The Zombie chip that just wont die.
Not to mention the not too long ago debacle of the Intel Puma modem getting widely approved and deployed when it was a huge pile of dodo and a bug ridden nightmare and no one even tested latency or jitter AS A ENTIRE INDUSTRY. I know this first hand as i was the guy who exposed and pushed the Puma 6 mostly into oblivion and caused Intel to sell off its connected home division.
While DOCSIS is going to compete, and maybe for a while exceed, fiber bandwidth (speed ) actually available to huge numbers of people, some companies are clearly a huge dysfunctional mess making any gains for DOCSIS not so certain and maybe not so clearly winning as might be seen.
So I moved a year ago and set up shop on Comcast. My service has been steller, for DOCSIS. For a whole year. Just wonderful. And I KNOW how to test and monitor these things. BUT.. Mid-split is coming, and for many already here. A large number of customer owned devcies are no longer supported by Comcast even tho they work great on all the other DOCSIS ISPs doing mid-split. Comcast has decided to create a whole new automation system to manage and deploy CPE on Mid-splits. So all the customer owned devices will work on the new system, but, Comcast wont let them on the system without a recertification that includes thier own iHAT system. The end result is "OH were sorry, you need to replace your modem with one from us for a lease fee AND this new device is most likely Puma based AND it comes with *features* like a public Xfinity wifi anyone can use and it allows us to impliment SDN and Micornets so we can access your LAN side devices for "troubleshooting" and maybe collect metadata about each devcie, the hours you use it and maybe what sites ( DNS ) each device visits." All part of DOCSIS 4 Micronets.
UMMMMMMMMMmmmmmm...... NO.... No thank you...
CableCos are desperate. Younger generations dont use TVs. Cable TV as a revenue source is collapsing. Everyone is streaming now. Live cable TV is going to die. They know it.
DOCSIS 4 and micronets with SDN would allow them to deploy plans PER DEVICE on the network. "Oh you have 3 phones and 2 computers and one gaming teenager" You need our small family plan that inclues up to 5 devcies and allows HD. You can upgrade one of the devcies if you want to 4K bandwidth if you sign up for autopay".. They want to use DOCSIS 4 SDN and Micronets to off plans like the do for cable TV channels.
Ummmmmmm... No... I will pass on DOCSIS 4...
SO.... When Comcast recently charged me for exceeding a cap that is just way too low for modern usage,, and made it nearly impossible for me to add the Unlimited Data Package for $30/mo on top of $100/mo for 1Gbps... I finally called AT&T..
Turned out my 16 year old neighborhood had fiber. In fact in 2 hours of install I had FTTH. The fiber comes all the way in and hooked directly to my BGW320-505..
I now have both the current really well performing DOCSIS 3 with a S33 modem and a really current fiber install..
So.. Being the tech guy I am and having set some standards for testing things during the Puma debacle,, I hooked both to a high end PC with 2 really good 1/2.5/5/10Gbps NIC cards. From the computer I can simply flip back and forth between Comcast DOCSIS and AT&T FTTH...
While the speeds test out the same. 1300 down and a big boost over cable with a 970 up on AT&T VS 40 Up on Comcst,,, the BIG deal was latency.. Bandwidth ( speed ) means nothing for normal browsing and internet use. A 5Gbps will not feel any faster then a 300Mbps for most uses.
Its ALL about latency. How long it takes to go get each thing on a web apge, each icon, each pic, EVERYTHING that has to be gotten and loaded takes time to go get them. THIS IS LATENCY.. This is a BIG deal. Turns out that I measured a 12 TIMES lower latency on AT&T fiber. Fiber is just WAY WAY faster in getting everything. DNS lookups are also the same 12 times faster..
DOCSIS can NEVER overcome this issue because they use a lot of copper wire and there is a lot of electronics to encode and decode the cable signals.
So I have now started testing the AT&T fiber system. I will do tons of work in the next month to really understand it. Who knows what kinds of issues there may be with fiber.
The Multiping chart I am posting shows my switching my computer between the 2 services. Its a HUGE difference.
I will also be watching as Comcast switches my over to mid-split and will then show before and after of that and the new mid-split VS Fiber..

[AT&T Fiber] Bye bye 802.1x, you will not be missed.
What if I told you that the whole 802.1x authentication is enforced at ONT level and is not necessary to get online?
In corporate networks it's the switch that communicates with AAA server, receives and processes 802.1x frames and enables or disables access on a switch port.
In ATT's GPON world, the switch is an ONT (the SoC has a switch part in it) and it is responsible for 802.1x. On top of that, 802.1x is not part of standard OMCI features - it's an add-on that is requested from ONT vendors by AT&T.
So if you use a generic ONT like an ONT SFP stick, which has no support for AT&T's OMCI extensions, you do not need 802.1x, certificates, rooting gateways extracting and decoding certs. I wish I knew all that before I spent all this time rooting RGs and developing tools to decode the certs. But it appears that all of that is unnecessary if you are using your own ONT.
All you need to get online is to match OMCI version (0xA0), ONT Hardware version, ONT Software version, Vendor string with Serial Number and password ("DEFAULT").
Depending on the type of ONT you use (I have only tried Lantiq and Realtek based SFPs so far), you may need to set your VLANs to something other than default '0', but the bottom line is that 802.1x is completely unnecessary.
I have only tried this on GPON so far, but there is a good chance XGS-PON works the same way.
Happy 4th of July!

Streaming services
We are paying $85 a month for DTV stream and are looking for cheaper options. We typically don’t watch live tv. We watch recorded shows later. Any suggestions for a less expensive option that allows us to watch shows after they have aired but in the current season? Say a week after airing? Not interested in an OTA antenna since that would require purchasing dvr. We have Apple TV’s so apps could be used on them.

[AT&T Fiber] ATT is a mess with repairs - unorganized, clueless
I am in a bad experience with ATT right now for a repair to my fiber.
Fiber went down around 12pm on Sunday, no rain, no storms. Talk to the reps and they said nothing is wrong on their end and they have to send a tech out to check my inside wiring. They say there is no outage. I explained nothing changed, but ok. They could only send out a tech on Tuesday, 2 days later.
Yesterday I get a text from ATT stating my appointment is cancelled as there is an outage. But https://www.att.com/outages says no outage. I talk to a rep again and they have no idea what is going on. A few hours later I contact another rep that says there is an outage and they have to fix the terminal. I asked why they did not know about the outage before and she was not sure as it is noted in their system so the other person had this info. She also could not explain why the att.com/outages does not say there is an outage.
This morning, I get a text saying my appoint was rescheduled and a tech is coming.
I contact another rep to see what is going on and they said they will send out a tech to check my lines as there is no outage. They were not sure why the other reps said there was an outage as there is none. I asked for some kind of explanation and they said "Line issue refers to the fluctuations occurring between your premises to our local office." They said it was my wiring.
A tech did show up about 30 minutes ago and said it was strange they kept changing their story about an outage. He checked the line outside and said it was dead. He was going to check around for damage and at the connections outside.
Then at the same time an ATT car drove up and a women came to my door asking to make a copy of my ID and to talk about my services. I laughed and said I have no service right now are you with the guy to fix it. She said she was not with them. I told her I would not give her my ID to make a copy. She kept asking for my ID and I just asked her to leave so she finally did. She had an ATT badge, shirt, and ATT branded car. She parked right behind the ATT work van. Since when does ATT come to your door to "talk to you about your services", that has never been a thing. Not only that, this sales person comes right when a tech is at your house troubleshooting your outage like they coordinated to know you would be home.
The tech just called me and said I was the only one in the terminal and my line is good at 1,200 feet. He said he was sorry they played games like this since sunday as there is an obvious outage upstream of the terminal and they should have made the ticket for the fiber guys to fix on Sunday. He put a ticket in right now. He was confused for why they sent him out for this as he cannot fix that side of the network. He said they should have known that the problem was on their side and not on the customer side.
I used to work at an internet service and we would know immediately if any switch or device went down. You could easily pinpoint it to which drop was not responding. We would get automatic notifications if something went down (not responding) so we could investigate.
How does ATT not have any idea what is the status of their equipment to where they just randomly send out techs to your house for no reason? Their phone and chat support have no idea what is going on or what they are doing. They wasted 2 days for no reason.
The worst part is this is the second time I had ATT come out. When I originally signed up in Dec, the reps said my modem was bad and they could not get it working. They sent out a tech 5 days later. The tech said nothing was wrong and he remotely provisioned the modem through his webportal just like any rep could have done. He was upset that they sent him out for nothing and that I had to wait 5 days for something they could have done in a minute.
Is this shitty support normal for ATT now? I never had any problems with decades of DSL service.
Having a brand new fiber network and equipment should be every easy for them to troubleshoot.

[VDSL] U-verse 2Wire 3801HGV gateway not working after storm
The uverse service at my parents house has not been working for the past several days since a storm. The gateway seems like it is not working properly. Regardless of whether the DSL is connected it seems to boot up with the power light blinking for about 10-15 seconds. Then the ethernet and phone lights come on for a time and eventually the 'broadband' light just flashes rapidly red. An occasional click is heard from what I assume is the phone line relay. The wireless SSID appears but I am unable to connect to it for very long nor access the setup page. I am also unable to get an IP address via ethernet even though the physical link shows as connected. I tried the holding the reset button and all that happened was the power light flashed red as well until I power cycled again. I tried another power supply but this did not help either.
Any suggestions on how to get this working again?

[ADSL2] What is the near future for my DSL connection from Uverse
I don't know what new announcements are due from ATT. My ISP is a third party local provider statewide and has been very reliable with ATT DSL. Whether it's ADSL or other I simply don't know Cost of the DSL is very reasonable. However the ATT phone bill on landline for negligible or no usage is outrageous. By my reading of the bill, $14.00/mo is charged for line maintenance-- for no usage. How is this explained anywhere? I looked at my bills for the same phone a couple years back and it was about $50/mo plus the ISP's modest $26.00/mo which has not increased over time.
I'm limited by my residence in an apartment complex. They are equipped with Charter cable but I've never had it connected-- I don't watch television and I don't want Spectrum.
My first post here and I'm looking for fresh ideas on all this.

forums.att.com is going away
AT&T is shutting down their Community Forums on June 27, 2024, directing users to visit att.com/support for support.
While AT&T claims it is not a cost cutting move, saying they "will be engaging with our customers more directly through our expert Care support channels", it is.
That is unfortunate since (1) there is alot of good stuff in the forums and (2) AT&T's normal support channels are pathetic and their AI and chatbot implementations have not helped but have made things worse.
Which may be good for dslreports.com as its traffic is likely to increase as a result.

[AT&T Fiber] BGW320-500 Rx Power constantly dropping
Since I got fiber in January, Rx Power was between 265 and 367 (shown as 0.367 on the web UI) up until a few weeks ago.
For the past 2-3 weeks my Rx Power has been steadily decreasing. Every couple of days it goes down. It at times goes back up by 5-10 but overall week over week keeps decreasing. I am now at 185. A few days ago it was 200.
I understand there can be fluctuations but in my case there is a constant trend down. I would like to understand if there is something I can proactively do before I reach the threshold.
Does anyone have any explanations to why the constant drop? Someone on Reddit suggested temperature changes.
fyi I posted this on Reddit and the only answer I got was that I am still within range, which I agree but my question is more about understanding what causes the constant drop rather than am I still fine.

AT&T not longer tracking data usage?
Has anyone else noticed that AT&T is not tracking their data usage anymore on fiber?
During my last bill cycle, my usage stopped being tracked at 121TB and I used 185TB.
I’ve also talked to friends in the Midwest and they are noticing the same thing. No data usage is showing up on their most recent bill.

Trying to order REAL Internet (VDSL and not Air)
The title captures most of it. Located in Southern California and I am trying to order real AT&T Internet, that is not pushed over Cellular. Currently have Spectrum which is incredibly unreliable and has been for some time.
Anyway, two or three weeks ago, I had the option of ordering 75mb DSL Service from AT&T. Now... my only option is ordering "AIR" service through the website. I did try calling, and they couldn't find the DSL Service through the ordering system.
Does anyone know if there is a loophole, or backdoor link to order the real stuff? I want to switch and have a physical, real wire connection. I do not care about faster speeds, I am concerned about reliability and want something better than a fake cell phone.

So we just had PG&E replace a utility pole outside our house. We have power back but they broke the AT&T landline, hence we have no DSL.
How best to report this? Tried calling AT&T but its hopeless just get endless requests to "unplug the modem"
