We are paying $85 a month for DTV stream and are looking for cheaper options. We typically don’t watch live tv. We watch recorded shows later. Any suggestions for a less expensive option that allows us to watch shows after they have aired but in the current season? Say a week after airing? Not interested in an OTA antenna since that would require purchasing dvr. We have Apple TV’s so apps could be used on them.

Suspected phishing email from "AT&T Mail Service"

Just received this suspected phishing email from "AT&T Mail Service [jill711@sbcglobal.net]"
The last time I received an actual email from AT&T Mail Service was to set up a password recovery option and that came from: "AT&T Online Services [att-services.cn.1811912843@emaildl.att-mail.com]"
The fact that there is no "To" address listed, it needs to be done today ("Starting on June 28th 2024") and funny wording and lack of punctuation ("Kindly click on the attachment[no comma]re-login and verify now") are just some of the tell-tale signs.
That "Update Now" goes to "docs.google.com/presentation/d/e/2PACX-1vTudvJDx0xwuxfyXMaK3z1rAylcd2bwmYYCbinvSe2Phr1lBMXVraaOYArPg6DAh-LbkaS5M54uToMs/pub?start=false&loop=false&delayms=3000"
Can anyone confirm that this is just a scam?

[IP-TV] Short freezes during playback of recordings
A few weeks ago, I started getting short freezes during playback of recordings. Happens sporadically, maybe every five or ten minutes. Freezes last less than five seconds. I suspected a hard drive issue, and the DVR itself was a few years old, so I ordered a replacement. Don't remember what the old DVR was, but new one is Arris VIP2262V2. Disappointingly, the problem is still there.
I'm on 1 Gig fiber, STB is connected to home network via TP-Link TL-SG1024DE, a managed switch with IGMP Snooping capability.
Any ideas what might be causing the freezing?
(Tried forum search, but that seems to be broken)

Well that was interesting. They closed the thread and I cannot respond to any of it. Just caught up with the additional pages on it.
What I got out of that was First: sign up for Spectrum Access online.
Avoid the store.
Setup the plan online and wait for the installer.
Get Ooma or (possibly) my decision to get a flip phone from Cellcom.
Thanks to all who are taking the time on this. I have the email refs and will likely read through that again.

[AT&T Fiber] XGS-PON SFP Modules for AT&T Fiber
I wanted to create a new thread for discussion and updates about XGS-PON SFP ONT modules that support AT&T Fiber in the USA. So far there are not many and they are hard to obtain. FS.com is bringing one to market sometime in May or June. Details posted below. Canadian users have a different requirement that includes VEIP . Currently not all chipsets support VEIP. A Virtual UNI” (User Network Interface) is an instance of the Virtual Ethernet Interface Point (VEIP).
The two main XGS-PON Chipsets being discussed currently are:
MaxLinear PRX126(former Intel, Lantiq) - Azores WAG-D20 external ONT box uses MxL
Cortina XGS-PON (now bought by Realtek) - This one does not seem to have firmware that supports VEIP (yet). It is a less expensive chipset.
Current modules are the following:
FS.com(Fiber Store) did confirmed to me and some others through their sales reps that Fiber Store will have an XGS-PON SFP ONT module for sale soon. They said they have completed the material selection, product design, and sample testing. They are now prepping the images, contents, datasheets and so on. Perhaps a few more weeks until availability. Several of us have been asking them to bring this to market.
This FS.com module is based on the Cortina chipset. It was requested to be able to edit the MAC, Serial, Ploam, Hardware and Software versions, and Vendor ID to match the ones AT&T provides. Hopefully it will have a Web GUI in addition to SSH access. This one has not been tested yet but other Cortina based one work with AT&T. The full specs are in the image. [att=1]
Hisense has the LTF7267 XGSPON ONU Stick which is based on the Cortina chipset (these are generally cheaper like $200). http://www.hisensebroadband.com/html/products/iptv_stb/20190805_256.html
The Sellers on Taobao, list the LTF7267A-BHA+ for $350.This one is the one with the MAC and ONT. It is likely that FS.com sourced their new module from Hisense as they have done with other products. Programing and configuration instructions for this Hisense module are here. https://hack-gpon.github.io/xgs/ont-hisense-ltf7267-bha+/
ECI Networks based out of Canada lists a Custom XGS-PON SFP+ Stick Module, XGSPON ONT w/t MAC function mounted on SFP+ package. A few users have said it is an MxL based chipset. USD $295.00 SKU:EN-XGSFPP-OMAC-V2
https://ecin.ca/custom-xgs-pon-sfp-stick-module-xgspon-ont-w-t-mac-function-mounted-on-sfp-package/
It is similar to another one they list for $225 but specifies "Local Management through Telnet and Web Interface. Allow to change the MAC, and SN." Here is the link to the cheaper unit.
https://ecin.ca/xgs-pon-sfp-stick-module-xgspon-ont-w-t-mac-function-mounted-on-sfp-package/
Azores list an SFP stick the WAS-110 but not sure it's obtainable. https://azoresnetworks.com/products/was-110
There is spec sheet PDF in this like at the Azores Stie https://azoresnetworks.com/products/was-110
This one is based on the Intel PRX126 which is also labeled the Max Linear(MxL) chipset.
The Azores WAG-D20 external ONT box uses MxL(Intel) PRX321/PRX120 chips and works great for XGS-PON on both Bell Canada USA AT&T. It sells for around $120 at Baltic Networks. It's really the only unit that's been widely available for XGS-PON users. But it's an external ONT like the Nokia XS-020X-A. https://www.balticnetworks.com/products/azores-1x-10gbe-1x-2-5gbe-intel-based-xgspon-ont
There is some speculation that ECI Networks is selling the Azores WAS-110 unit as a vendor. It may be the other way around but Azores only lists a small staff in a shared office address in Richardson Texas. So it may just be a USA subsidiary for a Chinese company. Some have said that Baltic Networks is mess to work with so the SFP WAS-110 carried by ECI Networks might be the Azores one.
Regardless, there is a company called BFW Solutions out of China that seems to be the OEM of units sold from Azores and ECI Networks. BFW has the R&D facilities in two Chinese cities to produce the hardware Azores and FS.com source from. You can tell from the pictures that it's the same base hardware. Do the WAG-D20/21 and WAS-110I look familiar? ;) http://bfw-solutions.com/en/xgspon-ont
The Fine Print
This thread is to help folks find the XGS-PON units and where to buy them. Compare Chipset differences and configuration options available. Let's create a new thread for actual configuration of each vendor's module so instructions apply to that specific vendor's hardware. I think that will help with confusion like we have between the GPON Lantiq and Reaktek modules.
Seems eventually, XGS-PON will replace GPON in all markets the way GPON replaced BPON in VZW markets. VZW says they are going NG-PON2. But even Google seems to be using XGS-PON first since the ONT is cheaper than the multi wavelength one needed for NG-PON2. Besides those vendors have their own forums here. This is about AT&T Fiber. This information may not be 100% accurate. So corrections are welcome. And if you going to complain, then stop reading and go figure it out yourself. Thanks for Reading and remember," Just because you can't see the light it doesn't mean it's not there." ...unless it's the Google Fiber box in his front yard he thinks...then it really is not there.

[IP-TV] Yes, you can still order U-verse TV 2022
A while back I commented on ordering a brand new U-verse TV account and responses were that I am BS, you haven't been able to order Uverse since ATTV launch 2 years ago, blah blah. Well, my install was 2 weeks ago and the result is: Success
I guess that the use case for a new U-verse order is pretty limited these days. It would probably be a die hard U-verse fan like myself rather than a new customer, so why wouldn't they just move their existing account? Maybe they want U-verse at a new vacation/second home, etc. But the reason doesn't matter, the purpose of this post is just to inform anyone who cares: It Can Be Done
How?
You cannot order online, by chat, in store, or from a call center underling. You will only have a chance of success dealing with a senior sales rep by phone.
Call 8002882020. Don't call on a Sunday, don't call past ~6PM eastern.
At the prompt, state "Order landline phone"
Are you an existing AT&T customer? "No"
What's your ZIP code? "48202"
Lifeline/affordable connectivity? "No"
Following the above should get you to a senior sales rep in St. Louis or Charlotte, maybe Miami. Only senior reps have access to POTS, and only certain call centers have access to certain RBOC systems. The above Detroit ZIP code will get you to a Michigan Bell call center, which is primarily St. Louis/Charlotte. You'll have about a 75% success rate of getting a rep that can place the U-verse TV order by following these instructions. If you have problems or get lip service, hang up and try again. If they even mention DirecTV satellite or streaming, hang up. None of the reps I dealt with tried to change my mind about U-verse at all.
The Catch?
There are no sales promotions for U-verse TV. You will have to pay the rack rate according the sales person. There are still promotions on the retention side. (In my case, I called retention about a week after the install, and they said the system wouldn't offer anything yet. I cannot yet confirm if it will simply take some time for a retention promotion to generate, or if they are preventing any promotion ever for TV on a newer account. I regularly have no problem getting retention promotions for my other old U-verse accounts, usually around $40-45 off for 12 months) If you subscribe and can't get the promotion you want from retention a later date, you can always cancel. There are no more contracts for U-verse.
Pro Tips:
If you want U-basic, you will want to order U-family and then downgrade to avoid the $199 U-basic install fee. The DVR will simply be disabled remotely if you don't want to pay $15 for it under U-basic, no replacement for a regular STB required. Additionally, you then already have the DVR if you were to upgrade packages at a later date. Remember, there are no contracts. (U-basic is a great cheap & convenient way to get all the local channels if you are OTT, but don't subscribe to an expensive live TV cable-esque streaming service) (And, bundling U-basic for $19 is a cheat to get free unlimited data rather than paying for it)
The old trick of simply asking the tech nicely for wireless STB(s) at the time of install to avoid the $49/ea fee when sales puts them on the order won't work anymore. If you want wireless receivers, 99% chance they will have to be on the order. Reason being is that U-verse equipment is in very short supply. Most techs have 1-2 receivers if any on their van any more for the occasional repair, and there isn't much of anything at the garage either. Putting all equipment on the order is the only way to get it all there. My recent example, the local manager had to drive to another garage about 40 miles away to gather up enough equipment the day before my install.
You can't have internet above 1000Mbps if you plan on using coax to your U-verse STBs. 2.5Gbps and 5Gbps XGS-PON requires the BGW320 which does not have a HomePNA coax connection. You will need the Pace 5268AC, which is the most recent gateway to support coax. If you are in an XGS only PFP, the 5268 in conjunction with the XS-020 ONT. In fact, this is the reason the 020 exists rather than XGS being 100% BGW320. Of course, the 5268 is what you will need for GPON w/ G-010 ONT, or single/bond VDSL FTTN U-verse. You can now have up to 5 wireless STBs whereas it used to be a max of 2, so if you are willing to pay for them then you can get 2.5/5Gb speed if you don't have ethernet to each receiver.
Long live U-verse.

Did anyone have any luck with negotiating Fiber 1000 plan?
My promo is about to ran out from $59.99 to $79.99, I tried twice to negotiate to no avail. The reps said they could not see any promos for $20 off, I got lucky last year. Last year, I called during the weekend and the rep just gave me the $20 off and also I got $120 gift card to offset the equipment fee.
Did anyone have any luck with the $30 ACP discount? I have a family member who has that, would I have to use their name for this discount?
Any help would be appreciated.

[AT&T Fiber] FCC broadband maps have been updated (12/31/23)
Looks like new map was posted yesterday.
https://broadbandmap.fcc.gov/home
What's frustrating is that my island of no AT&T fiber has shrunk even further and it's now pretty much *just* my neighborhood. My few blocks are really going to be the last ones to get fiber, if we ever even do.
It's always been like that too; lived in this house for a long time. We were the last neighborhood around here to get DSL. We were the last neighborhood to get Comcast Internet (we had TV service with no internet for years). Now it looks like it will be the last to get fiber.
I think my location is just cursed. At least we have mid-split!

ATT Phone Advanced Plan and DSL
I got a one page flyer from ATT on their AT&T Phone-Advanced Plan.
Since the flyer says 'get located in an emergency' am I to assume that the rate cut described is for cell phones only and not landline service?
Down at the bottom it says are you 'ready to discuss some options?' Also it looks like it requires a new hardware device with free shipping costs.
No I'm not really ready for options. I was just looking at the new service price of $45.00.
But I came in here with the initial thought of asking what happens to my DSL?
The ATT forum at reddit (the way I found DSLreports) is closing down-- perhaps due to questions like mine.
I have very poor attention for any phone chat and do not want to talk to a salesman
in the store or calling them worrying about not only misunderstanding anything but also being bamboozled.

[AT&T Fiber] BGW320 randomly rebooting?
Has anyone run into this? I had a BGW320-505 that started rebooting at random times recently. I contacted AT&T and they sent out a BGW320-500, which I installed yesterday. *That* just randomly rebooted.
Has anyone experienced this? The only thing I can think of that would cause 2 different devices to reboot would be a power interruption, but I have 2 servers on the same circuit, 1 of which is known to reboot when there's a power interruption, and it's been totally fine. Nothing else in the house has been affected either.
Firmware on the 500 is 4.27.7. I still have the 505, but I would have to check to see what firmware that has.

[AT&T Fiber] Yes, AT&T Fiber peering does suck.
I see people all the time say, AT&T Fiber peering is not great. I finally came across an A/B comparison. They are not exactly equal because the CloudFlare connection has full-time encryption enabled. Nevertheless, Cloudflare WARP+ promotes itself as finding the optimal route to the host you are contacting. In this case, you see it dropped ping times from 27ms to 12ms for the same location. Of course, bandwidth was reduced due to encryption overhead but there's still plenty of bandwidth left.
I have a Wireguard connection into Cloudflare on my MikroTik edge router. I can add (or turn on/off) route rules for any host on my network (like my PC) to redirect it's traffic via Cloudflare as needed for low latency.

[AT&T Fiber] Should I switch from Xfinity to AT&T Fiber?
So, I know that AT&T was planning to install fiber in my area after it has been dominated by Comcast for decades and AT&T only had 5 Megabit DSL, seems that happened sooner than expected as there was a rep at our door today asking if we wanted to schedule an installation.
I want to switch actually, but I want to know if anyone who uses or used them might have any opinions positive or negative about them and their other service. I tried to Google for these answers but wasn't able to find much, and half the articles were from nearly 20 years ago.
For starters we basically have the full package from Xfinity right now, Internet (800Mbit down, 100Mbit up... after finally being upgraded from the laughable 20Mbit up we had for years), Cable TV and a landline.
The rep said that they have all of that, for less (without it being a temporary introductory price) and better speeds, but with a few caveats for the TV. Namely that the TV boxes are not hard-wired like ours are which I prefer but would be WiFi boxes just simply connecting over the internet. Has anyone had issues with those causing congestion? I have my own router and prefer to go that route, and use the internet heavily for both streaming and gaming. Would having now multiple tv boxes using that WiFi cause any latency or congestion?
Also the rep said that unlike Xfinity, their landline service is an actual landline and not just VoIP. Is that true? I would far prefer that over VoIP, but few places offer that service anymore over it just being a VoIP service.
Has anyone ever had or is AT&T known to interfere with any sort of servers or service? I know that just about every ISP blocks port 25 but Xfinity has been in trouble in the past for trying to spy on encrypted traffic or block services like torrents. I am not planning to host an e-Mail server, but I do experiment with my systems a lot with remotely accessing them, using a VPN, temporarily hosting a file server to transfer files between them, and many other services, none permanent. Has anyone ever had any trouble doing anything like this over AT&T? Or knows if there is anything like this they actively block?
The rep also said they have something called ActiveArmor that is supposed to protect me or something, but I have seen others complain that it just causes issues. I know I can deactivate it, but does anyone have any opinions or personal experiences about this? Apparently it would be able to block fraud calls (which we get a lot of on our landlines) but it doesn't mention if this is just for their cellphone service or for landlines too. If it works for landlines, can I only enable it for that and disable it for my internet?
Anything else I should know about or expect that anyone is aware of from switching from Xfinity to AT&T Fiber?

Pre-running fiber before order?
I suspect I know the answer to this, but figure I'd put it out to the peanut gallery anyway...
A friend of mine just bought a house and is planning on getting AT&T fiber. The house has not had fiber yet, so T will need to run a drop from the street to get him setup. He's going to be doing some major remodeling so probably 6+ months before he actually moves in. However, where the phone and cable come into the house will be easier to trench to and get to before the remodel (adding an addition)
Is there any way to get AT&T to run a drop to the house but not order service, with a promise of ordering service in the future? He doesn't want to pay for service before they move in
