U-verse TV adds subscribers,Directv & DirecTV Now both lose big

We all know that U-verse is obsolete and going out of business, right. At&t is refusing to put a nickel into upgraded equipment. Meanwhile , U-verse just gained 12,000 subscribers last quarter. DirecTV lost a mind-boggling 403,000 subscribers and the technology of the future, DirecTV Now lost 267,000, far beyond the consensus of a 19,000 loss. What's going on here? How come U-verse TV is doing so well compared to the other more favored outlets.

[AT&T Fiber] Truck Stock

Weird question .. when did AT&T techs start carrying red cat-5e patch cables? Recently had my ONT and RG surged after a lightning storm and the amazing tech replaced EVERYTHING down to the patch cables. He had a bunch of red ones in his truck for fiber customers (as the ONT ports on the RG are red) and for the many years we have had AT&T I've never seen one. Sorry for the stupid question, but is this a new thing? :)

What Happened to the Uverse Phase Out?

Original Bellsouth Americast subscriber here who switched from Comcrap back to AT&T 3 years ago at my house in GA when AT&T finally upgraded the IFITL in our neighborhood to gigafiber. So far, I’ve enjoyed the service and it’s been stable with a relatively good value for the money in the U200 package. My only complaint is the limited OnDemand content. My promotion recently expired, but I managed to get it renewed for another 2 years into February 2021. I am honestly kind of surprised the Uverse TV platform is still around, as I remember a few years ago, it sounded like it was being phased out. What’s the plan for UVerse TV, and do you expect it to be around much longer now that AT&T is apparently rolling out a IPTV box for full DirecTV service that can apparently be used with any ISP?

Possible to upgrade speed past what AT&T says?

Hello! long time lurker and finally made an account. I was looking at my modem stats and I was wondering how I would go about convincing AT&T to upgrade my internet package to the old 45 Mbps because I think my modem would support it with enough overhead? I currently can only get the 25 Mbps package right now with speeds around 30 down and 7 up.

[AT&T Fiber] Gateway?

I'm pondering AT&T Fiber. I have cable broadband now. I'm used to cable modems, but it looks like AT&T wants to put a "wifi router" in place. Nobody wants a provider's router OR wifi if he knows what he's doing. I'm sure they can turn off the wifi, but really, I just want what my cable modem gives--ethernet out with an external address, going into my own router which does NAT. What address scheme does the AT&T router use, and can it be changed?

[AT&T Fiber] Is Fiber coming soon? UPDATE: YES it is!

So.... I noticed the other day that all the underground utilities in my yard plus neighbors and the surrounding neighborhoods off the main road have had locates done (electric, gas, water, sewer etc.) then yesterday and today I saw multiple AT&T trucks and contractors working and they had a large spool of Corning Optical Cable they appeared to be running near the main road or along it as well as working in those cabinets. Does this indicate FTTP is really coming??? Currently the max available is 25/5 VDSL from AT&T for my address but homes closer to the VRAD can get 75 or 100 Mbps. I am a Charter Spectrum customer currently, however if we get green lighted for AT&T fiber I will switch in a heartbeat! :) Also, my address has never had any services from AT&T since being built including POTS so we do not even have a NID anywhere on the side of the house or any copper line run. Above is some pictures of the poles/lines/VRAD cabinets in my area, we have a mix of aerial and underground. I am not sure what is located on all the poles but wanted to post to see if anyone could spot fiber. The VRAD/green cabinet is down the road probably around a 1/4 mile or less. Thank you in advance

[AT&T Fiber] Install today Fiber

I'm not going to knock Comcast, had business internet for $90 a month, over provisioned to 86/18 from 75/17. My area has been a nightmare with keeping a cable "Floating" and around 3 to 6 months have always had an issue of no service or tempered service. Now weather (wind) pixilated TV service and caused excessive modem errors and two cables hang over one another. Simply got tired of that issue and for almost 6 months, not being able to stream from Amazon or Netflix at all, in fact cancelled Netflix over a month ago because of "Peering" issues -No, everything but the modem and router was replaced and it was only a consequence over the last half year. I realize my area must have line issues for Comcast, though, well perhaps. Certainly Peering is the hidden agenda item, nobody is supposed to know about, at least on a business line. Install of AT&T fiber direct to the AT&T modem router and bridged to my router went without issues, however communication really was sub par, apparently the fiber line was broken, line techs worked on it and Brian the install (house side) stated there was an issue at the pole, that was fine, long as I knew. however around 1:30pm the following day, I finally gave up trying to figure out when I would get service, it took over two hours and three reps to get an answer -Essentially there was a broken fiber line & was fixed, but zero communication regards the next step to house install. Andrew showed up 3 days after the install date, after finally getting a time/date to complete the work and he made it painless. 420/360 raw for 300/300 account. I hope AT&T can keep a line to the building hooked! I hope that I don't pay for a streaming service I can't use (only streaming I have not tested), 1080i and 760 is pretty much the same as Comcast for TV, however it's a fraction of the price, went from HD Preferred with Comcast (around 60 channels) for $144.50 + $89.99 [$234.99] for business internet to TV 450 (around 500 channels) and 300/300 fiber for $205 with tax. Downside? Well, perhaps I went from an average 10msec lag to 23msec and don't understand why a fiber line would have significant lag? But, bang for buck can't be argued at all. Uptime is still to be determined. Have to admit I would not have done this without a fiber option, will see over time how this pans out. Cheers -NLR, AR.

[AT&T Fiber] Bypass Hardware List

I think we should have a list of known working hardware for the gateway bypass, so I'm starting a thread for it. Edit: I made a Google form to make this a bit easier to glance at: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1jyy3sCp5AbR1vc74FP82DBu8tTesazzTKNApWYTJno0/

https://imgur.com/a/jxfx5Ya It’s been like this for a very long time, as I’ve been with AT&T for over 25 years (different names and whatnot). I’m doing some Home theater improvements and was wondering if I could tidy this up? We have digital phone, not traditional landline. We have VDSL, not fiber. Thanks in advance!

[VDSL] NID Module and Wiring to RG Question

Good morning, I've seen the ULM-DSL-33U2 come up in discussion before as the best line module to use for U-Verse/AT&T Internet service. Is it worth obtaining and installing, vs. the default 4-station POTS modules that many seem to have? Considering the plant is mostly Cat 3 or Cat Nothing, I'm not sure if it would help to have the VDSL2 isolation. We do not currently have POTS, though we'd consider ordering it if line share is available - we are bonded, so there are no available pairs in our buried drop for anymore services. Perhaps isolating the POTS frequencies helps reduce interference that could disrupt line quality for VDSL2? Also, I've noticed AT&T using shielded Cat 5E for the path between the NID and the RG on some newer installations. We currently have UTP 5e, and I'm wondering if there'd be a benefit to going shielded. The current path from the NID crosses a basement/garage space, with garage door openers and electrical wiring (romex, not in conduit). I also wonder if there's value in replacing the patch cable for the VDSL2 signal from the long green one provided. In case you are curious, here are the line stats. The tech stated that the approximate wire length was 4000-4400' to the line card in the VRAD, so I'm not too unhappy with what I'm seeing - I just wish I could improve the upstream. It floats between a bonded sync rate of 3600 and 4200. U-Verse login access to streaming apps.

Just had Uverse installed, U300 TV and Internet 100. I'm suppose to get all the premium channels except just 3 months of HBO and Cinemax and then $26 thereafter. So the channels look fine, the on demand stuff looks fine for the premiums. But when I try to log into HBO Go, Showtime Anytime Max Go or Starz apps. on my iPad or on the browser, they all say I don't have those channels in my package. I called AT&T and they say they're currently having a problem with third parties and don't know when they will be back. They tell me to use the Uverse app to get that content. I can access the premium channels on the Uverse app. but a couple of problems. 1. I have an Apple TV and there's no Uverse app. for that so I can't log into HBO Go, etc. on it. Thing is, picture quality through the streaming apps. is better than either Uverse TV or Comcast (which I would be switching from). 2. I also access streaming through the browser and of course you can't stream Uverse content through the browser. 3. Uverse app. for iPad requires location services or knowing where the device is. When I travel overseas, I use VPN to access content. OK, if I can't log in to the premium channels streaming directly and if the Uverse app. checks the location (if it uses GPS say instead of relying only on IP) then I could use the service either. Is anyone else able to log into these premium channel apps. or streaming sites (through the browser) with Uverse logins currently? I'm in the South Bay Area (San Jose)

Why is U-Verse TV Channel focused vs Program focused?

Why is U-Verse TV channel focused vs program focused? Let's say I want to record Family Guy. I have to create two series... one for Fox and one for TBS. And when programs record they are listed twice - all Fox and all TBS. Why can't they all be grouped together? That's how FIOS does it. If I hide most SD channels so the Guide shows primarily HD channels why do SD channels show up in Search results? Searching for Family Guy again as an example, why do I get results for TBS HD and TBS SD? I don't believe DirecTV shows both (I haven't had DirecTV for years). So much of U-Verse TV seems counterintuitive (at least to me). Thanks.

[AT&T Fiber] Any way to bypass att modem using ASUS GT-AC5300?

Was curious if anyone else was using this specific router with att 1000 plan. If so, the options in the advanced settings have all sorts of options that look like could be use to "simplify" bypassing the modem. Don't really wanna shell out $135 for an USG. But I will if I have to if I can't get around their modem. Or if anyone else that uses this router, what were your go to settings? I tried putting the router in AP mode and it significantly improved my wifi speeds and kept them consistent.

[AT&T Fiber] Fiber install soon - can I choose modem, advice, etc.

Hi, Have a fiber install coming soon. (Switching from non-AT&T). I already have my own router that I'd like to keep using. When they give me the modem on install: * If I have options, should I request a specific modem that's better? * I'll want the modem set up in bridge mode, or something similar, to use my regular router. Should I have the installer do this, or just deal with it myself after they leave, assuming it'll they'll give me some sort of config access?
