At&t Fiber coming to Milwaukee,WI?

Hey all, just wondering if anyone here has any clue when we can expect At&t Fiber to be rolled out to residences in Milwaukee. Has anyone heard anything? Milwaukee was announced Dec 7 2015, and I don't know of anyone outside of some apartments or condos that can get it. Last year I saw a bunch of orange conduit being buried, but really haven't seen much lately. Now that Spectrum is offering 300mbit in southeastern Wisconsin, I would think ATT is dead if they don't roll out fiber. Here's the announcement article: http://archive.jsonline.com/business/att-to-launch-ultra-fast-internet-service-in-milwaukee-in-2016-b99629771z1-360815221.html

[VDSL] Why did Cost Assessment increase by 335% this month?

$

My January Cost Assessment Charge went up from $0.80 (2%) to $2.68 (6.69%). So I gotta ask - did their "property taxes" increase by 335%? ($0.80 * 3.35 = $2.68) I thought the 2018 tax policy changes were supposed to favor corporations. Yes, I realize that was not property taxes, but in aggregate, I would have expected a net decrease in their tax burden. What reasonable justification do they have for this increase, besides that they can?

[AT&T Fiber] Gateway Advice for Ubiquiti USG Pro

Just bought a home in Michigan and set up an install for AT&T symmetrical gigabit. I use a Ubiquiti USG Pro and multiple Ubiquiti switches and access points. I know there are some hoops to jump through to get my hardware working with the required Residential Gateway, and that there are a few different RGs available. Should I request a certain RG to make setup easier? Any help is sincerely appreciated!

ATT uVerse purchase at COSTCO

Just before Christmas, I was in my local COSTCO , just browsing, and was approached by an ATT Salesperson (ATT shirt, ATT badge ). He asked me who I had for phone, TV, and internet. I told him I was under contract to ATT for 13 more months. He asked me what I was paying, and he claimed the COSTCO price was cheaper, and I would NOT be breaking my contract by going with his offer of same exact services, but they were cheaper. I said I was under contract, and he said he was with ATT, and could make the changes, and zero extra charges. Anyone know if he was correct, or blowing smoke to get a sale. Thanks!

Airties 4920 Firmware Update

I received a firmware update this morning to 2.49.2.18.7197. Seems to be working better now. I had been having problems since the last update with losing connections and both the 2.4 and 5GHZ lights flashing red after a couple of hours. A week ago I had my gateway changed out by tech and told him about the Airties problems. He said ATT was aware of problem and was working on a firmware update to fix it. He said the last update broke the ethernet back haul capabilty which was the problem I was having. Anyway, hopefully this update fixed it. I do notice that the Airties does blink the 5GHZ led every 5 seconds now like it's supposed to do according to the manual. It quit doing that for me after the last update.

[AT&T Fiber] Slack NID

So I had AT&T Fiber installed Dec 31, 2018 and in my excitement to get it installed I noticed that the tech just ran the fiber directly inside to the ONT vs using a slack NID. Is this something that will be installed when the fiber gets buried (its currently winter here) or do I need to request it be installed. Also the technician used aerial fiber for the run vs the kind to be buried, will that cause an issue at burial time?

[AT&T Fiber] Motorola VIP2250 hard drive upgrade

I'll start with what I did, and end with a rant against ATT... The unit came with a 500 GB Samsung drive. I could not believe they use such a small drive with how cheap HDDs are these days! I first swapped in a 4 TB HDD. The system made use of the drive, but would not record. I then tried a 1 TB SSD. This hung the system up, clearly SSDs are not supported - shame. It would make the system MUCH cooler, and completely silent! Next tried a 2 TB HDD, same results as the 4 TB. System ran but would not record. Finally got in a 1 TB WD Red HDD (I didn't have any spare drives that small!). System loaded, and right away started recording a show that was on. So I now have 993 hours of SD (which I will not use a byte of), and 363 hours of HD capacity. I guess since it's running WindowsCE, larger drives and SSDs are not supported. For a relatively new device, that's not very competitive at all. I searched a LOT for upgrades to the VIP2250, virtually no information out there. So now at least there's one post that Google hopefully crawls through soon! Now for the rant... [rant] I finally had Uverse installed after 10+ hours in the store/on the phone/on chats trying to get ATT to live up to the multiple emails about services I could not get (like streaming on my phone BEFORE the install date - which was over 3 weeks after I called to get Uverse). Anyway, most things cleared up after install, except it says my Android is rooted and won't play live TV. It's not rooted, but I see this has been an issue with ATT for years, so I don't expect there to ever be a fix (regardless of what the persistently say, I don't think the value their customers at all, and the "service" part of their "customer service" is non-existent. After all that time spent before my install, they gave me a $20 credit. So they "value" me at $2/hour or less... And now I have at least 12 different pieces of info I need to have to get proper service. I have 4 User IDs, each with its own password. And an Authorization code, and a few random other identifiers. I can't believe how messed up the ATT systems are - piss poor integration!!! All the customer service reps were great at reading their scripts, but most could not address any real issues. No one can be reached directly, and even with my ATT cell phone, and after giving them my number (which they asked me for at the beginning of the call "in case we got disconnected", its "against policy" to call a customer (even when the customer asks for it!!!!). I will say that using the Chat function usually resulted in getting to someone that has a clue, and I sent each Chat to my e-mail after they were over, using a function in the Chat window. This is the ONLY way to get an actual copy of the commitments that ATT fails over and over to live up to. If I have any issues with Uverse, I am fully prepared to take them to small claims court if I have to in order to part with them and not get charged anything for leaving "in contract". They have already completely failed to deliver on multiple commitments to the contract they made with me. After 18 years using TiVo exclusively, my cable provider's service degraded to such crap that I had to cancel. There's a problem on their end, and after sending 6 techs to my house, but NEVER addressing the issue on their end, I had to give up! So, Spectrum, I'm glad I'm gone. TiVo, I miss you SOOOOOO much already! That said the Uverse DVR isn't horrible. NO WHERE near as good as TiVo, but not horrible. It is limited to 4 streams where the TiVo can do 6 per box, and 2 TiVo's can do 12, and you can watch content from one on any other. I likely won't have many times where the 4-stream limit will actually be an issue, but I don't understand why the limit exists at all. If TiVo at least 12 streams a single coax cable coming to my home, why can't Fiber handle 20, 30, 40 streams? Isn't it supposed to have far more bandwidth than coax? [/rant]

AT&T sees 5G as a viable fixed broadband replacement

$

https://www.rcrwireless.com/20190130/carriers/att-5g-fixed-broadband Speaking on a fourth quarter earnings call today, Stephenson recalled how in the 1990s there was skepticism that wireless could serve as a substitution for fixed line voice. “I have little doubt that in the three to five year time horizon you’ll see substitution” of 5G for fixed line broadband. He added that businesses can essentially use 5G as a local area network leveraging a “wireless plug and play environment. This will play itself out that way.” ... Company leadership also discussed the “hand in glove” relationship between the ongoing construction of FirstNet and its plans for expanding 5G services. Essentially, as AT&T crews hit sites to deploy the dedicated nationwide public safety network, they’re also putting in the infrastructure necessary for 5G. So in 3-5 years, they call it quits with FTTP and everyone else gets 5G? Federal government also looks to be subsidizing 5G deployment as well.

U-verse TV adds subscribers,Directv & DirecTV Now both lose big

We all know that U-verse is obsolete and going out of business, right. At&t is refusing to put a nickel into upgraded equipment. Meanwhile , U-verse just gained 12,000 subscribers last quarter. DirecTV lost a mind-boggling 403,000 subscribers and the technology of the future, DirecTV Now lost 267,000, far beyond the consensus of a 19,000 loss. What's going on here? How come U-verse TV is doing so well compared to the other more favored outlets.

ATT Gigapower Pace 5268 slow

$

I have ATT Fiber in my building and have had their service for several years. The entire time I have had it, the download has been very slow. I get between 2-12 Mbits, even when the upload hits 40-50 Mbits on the same speed test. I have tried changing channels, changing bandwidth settings (20 vs 40 mhz etc), adjusting the radio power, switching from b/g/n, to n only, yet despite standing right next to the router these are the results I get. I have tried isolating the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz networks, and the 5Ghz one does perform better, but I have some devices that use 2.4Ghz. There are other networks on the 2.4 band, but its not *that* bad. My package is 300, but I had the same issue with 100 service and 50 service. They have swapped out the 5268 for me, but its the same issue. Am I being unrealistic to expect better 2.4Ghz N speeds out of this network? Is there some quirk with this device I should know about?

[AT&T Fiber] Run from wiring panel to outside?

I am building a new home in Volusia County, FL with AT&T Fiber available. The builder's standard is one run of CAT5E and one run of RG6 from the managed wiring panel to the outside. Should I have conduit run to the outside so AT&T can pull fiber directly into the wiring panel? Alternatively, should I pre-run the fiber? Thanks!

ATT TrueBridge Mode for for Ubiquity Security Gateway (USG)

So, I have taken the plunge and replaced my PFSense firewall with a Ubiquity USG. This is an affordable device, around $110 on Amazon, and is the perfect companion to Ubiquiti Unifi wireless access points and its controller if you happen to use any. For the same reason as "rockstar" did with his PFSense thread, I decided to open up a separate topic for those searching for information, without having to go through the "True Bypass" monster thread. During my research before purchasing, I came across this gem: https://blog.taylorsmith.xyz/att-uverse-modem-bypass-unifi-usg/ It explains in clear steps what you have to do. The most difficult portion is the trimming of the .json file somewhere halfway. I spent a good 20 minutes on it, and the examples that were given on the site above were of good help. Remember: when you start following the guide above, you will eventually disconnect from the internet, so make sure you have all the sites open you want open, and have all the files you need before proceeding. Make sure you read every step, don't skip any. PROS: Latency decrease. As if the gigapower itself wasn't good enough, a ping to 8.8.8.8 has changed from 3-4ms to a solid 2ms. If you are further away from bigger datacenters, the latency decrease can actually be noticeable. Speed: Speedtests are the same, really.... 930/930 to 940/940, the maximum you can push through gigabit. No change. DPI: This is with deep packet inspection enabled on the USG, so you can really keep check to see where your data is going. This is actually a cool feature, it shows you exactly how much hundreds of applications take in data, ranging from Facebook to P2P/Torrent to Netflix to OneDrive to Speedtest.net to Gmail to online games, you name it, and all displayed in a userfriendly and accessible way. CONS: No decent IPv6 support yet. Ubiquiti is working on it, and current firmware has "alpha" support for it, but it will be coming soon. If you need IPv6 NOW, don't use this.... if you can wait a few months till Ubiquiti really has their IPv6 ironed out, we may be able to get it to work in a similar fashion. It may actually work now, I just haven't gotten around to really testing it yet. NEUTRAL: I have static IP's. I have them mostly "just because", for the geekness of it, to run servers etc.... but the reality is I managed to consolidate all those back to the one DHCP IP for now (which never changes anyways), so I can take my sweet time figuring out how to get them to work. I'm sure its not that hard, just will take some digging.

How to get full speed out of AT&T Gigabit

I have an AT&T Gigabit fiber connection. Have the 1000/1000 plan. Speed test result is wired directly to the back of the modem via cat#5e. How come this is the best I can get? The modems internal speed test shows the results Im looking for. My network card is up to date. I have tried 4 different computers hard wired, same results. [att=1] [att=2]
