I've managed to brick my BGW210. It still turns on, but doesn't finish booting. I've hooked a TTY up to the UART pins and it appears to go through most of the boot process until it gets to a kernel panic.
Is there any built-in rescue mechanism that you know of? TFTP, USB rescue, etc.
This is not my primary device, so i'm not out of service, but I'd prefer not to junk it if I can rescue it!
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
-Wes

NVG595/NVG599 console access
I've been monkeying around with the 595 and 599 UARTs trying to see what I can customize, but I can't seem to get anywhere.
Other Arris/Motorola modems have a root shell, but I can't get a root shell or login to the console on these devices.
They both boot up to a login: prompt, but no known logins work, including "admin" and the password printed on the device.
Does anyone know the magic console credentials for these devices? Better yet, any magic tricks to get the modem to drop you to a root shell?
Thanks a bunch,

Bypassing gateway with ER-X not working :(
Hey guys, I know this subject has been posted on many times, but I just can't get this to work with my setup and I didn't want to hijack other people's threads.
I've read the following resources:
https://medium.com/@mrtcve/at-t-gigabit-fiber-modem-bypass-using-unifi-usg-updated-c628f7f458cf
http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r32170977- (I tried these steps to no avail)
Can anyone help me? Here's a link to how my ER-X is currently configured: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1HqbQEkXob7LcJkJxxcVB-_ErAeSEjwTPWcE9237hktM/edit?usp=sharing
With my setup, how should I configure this (eth0 for ONT; eth1 for AT&T RWG)? Does it matter if the AT&T RGW is still in bypass mode?

U-verse DVR crashed
I've been a U-verse customer for 4 years. I have a Pace IPH 8010 DVR. It has 1 TB of storage.
The DVR kept locking up and required a restart each time. This was going on for about a month or two. ATT told me it needed a software update to fix this issue. The previous update was two months old. I was skeptical that this would resolve my issue, but I didn't really have a choice. To make a long story short, the DVR failed again the next day & I wasn't able to even watch the TV now. After spending 1.5 hours on the phone, they sent me a replacement DVR. It was a very old looking Motorola 1225. It would not update when I hooked it up, so it was not usable. I had to spend another hour on the phone with tech support while they worked on something on their end. They finally got it working.
This replacement DVR only has half the storage capacity of my old unit. I called ATT, they said this was the latest they are offering. I don't want this unit because of the size of the hard drive. They said they don't have the Pace unit. So I asked if they can send the latest and greatest unit. They said no. I have been without a TV for 4 days because their DVR failed.
Does anyone have a suggestions how I can keep my 1 TB of storage?
Thank you.

[AT&T Fiber] 5268AC DMZ+ to Router Speeds 50/200.
Recently had AT&T 300/300 FTTP installed. Setup the Pace 5268AC to run DMZ+ mode to an Asus RT-AC86U router, and while being hard-wired into the Asus I'm seeing speeds of 50/200. Hard-wired into the the 5268AC I get 350/350.
The ATT Gateway lan is setup to run on the 172.16.0.1 address, The Asus is 192.168.1.1.
I've also tried a WRT1900AC router and received identical speeds of 50/200 under the DMZ+ mode.
I've tried multiple solutions from searching this issue, but have yet to find a resolution. At the moment I'm not sure what firmware the ATT box is running, later this afternoon I'll be able to pull that information.
Anyone been in the same boat and found a way to resolve this? It seems like anything assigned as DMZ+ immediately gets a bandwidth restriction.

[AT&T Fiber] NorCal - New 1Gig install today, couple questions...
Meant to ask this stuff a while back but I'm dumb and install is happening later today. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Currently have a ZyWall 110 Dual WAN USG, which I know how to manage. I'm assuming it's possible to put whatever they have to install in bridge mode? Anything else I should say to the Installer to get what I want?
I currently have ATT DSL with 15 static IPs as a backup to Comcast Cable, but use the IPs for a bunch of geeky IOT and web projects. ATT rep said only way to get static IPs with the Fiber is to go with business class which is insanely $$$!. Anyone able to get static IPs with the Home Fiber plan? Worst case, I've used Domain Forwarders before, wondering how the cool kids are doing it these days? I was thinking of going with No-IP, but haven't pulled the trigger.

[UVERSE/ATL] Intermittent Ping Spikes In League of Legends ?
I was wondering if anyone else was having ping spikes with League? It was happening a couple of years ago when I was still on DSL, I quit playing and I reinstalled the game a couple weeks ago and the same exact problem exists on Uverse. Did a speed test and have 27mpbs download, 3.4mbps Upload, 24ms ping. But in game I'll be running a consistent 50-55 ping, but every 15 seconds or so it massively spikes to over 300 for a few seconds. Sometimes my ping will be completely fine all game though with no rhyme or reason. It seems independent of time of day and most of the time the home network isn't being used by anyone but me. I contacted the game's support staff and they had me run several tests including WinMTR. Below are the results if anyone would be so kind as to interpret them so I can call AT&T with guns loaded? Or back to Riot Games if it looks like it's on their end?
Test sent to 192.64.170.252 and I attached the text file for easier reading. Thanks for anything you could tell me that might be helpful!

[AT&T Fiber] Extremely slow upload speeds with new fiber install
So here is an interesting issue, I had new fiber 1000 service installed in my apartment yesterday, and everything seemed to be working fine, I ran lots of speed tests, and nearly always got 930+ mbps down and up. But I came to notice that I am only getting those upload speeds whenever I am using a speed test website like Speedtest.net, dslreports, or fast.com. Whenever I try to upload something to an actual website like google drive, or an off-site FTP server everything is extremely slow, like 30-300KBps. Similarly, if I connect my computer to a VPN, and run a Speedtest, I still get great download results in the hundreds of megabits, but the upload slows down to a halt just like non-speedtest websites when connected to my connection directly.
Any idea what could be going wrong? I've done tests connected directly to their modem/router, and through my Unifi USG connected to their router in IP Passthrough mode. My AT&T provided router/modem is the BGW210. It's almost like they are throttling everything but speed tests.

NVG595 Passthrough and Echo Requests
Hi guys,
We just recently had 1Gbps fiber installed, and AT&T supplied us with an ARRIS NVG595. I have the device in IP Passthrough mode, and I have a security gateway with one of five AT&T IPs assigned. The gateway is able to transmit traffic back and forth without any issues, and I'm able to confirm the correct IP via whatismyip.org
However, I'm not able to ping the IP from a separate connection, any port forwarding I put in place is not working, and remote management of my security gateway will not connect. I have confirmed that the router is set to reply to ping requests, and that remote management is properly enabled. Luckily we are still on our previous ISP, and I have only been performing testing with the AT&T fiber before moving our whole network over to it.
Is there something I'm missing here? I know that the NVG595 cannot perform traditional bridging, which is a shame as that is what I truly need for it to do. Any thoughts or suggestions would be extremely appreciated.

[AT&T Fiber] Motorola VIP2250 hard drive upgrade
I'll start with what I did, and end with a rant against ATT...
The unit came with a 500 GB Samsung drive. I could not believe they use such a small drive with how cheap HDDs are these days! I first swapped in a 4 TB HDD. The system made use of the drive, but would not record. I then tried a 1 TB SSD. This hung the system up, clearly SSDs are not supported - shame. It would make the system MUCH cooler, and completely silent! Next tried a 2 TB HDD, same results as the 4 TB. System ran but would not record. Finally got in a 1 TB WD Red HDD (I didn't have any spare drives that small!). System loaded, and right away started recording a show that was on. So I now have 993 hours of SD (which I will not use a byte of), and 363 hours of HD capacity. I guess since it's running WindowsCE, larger drives and SSDs are not supported. For a relatively new device, that's not very competitive at all.
I searched a LOT for upgrades to the VIP2250, virtually no information out there. So now at least there's one post that Google hopefully crawls through soon!
Now for the rant...
[rant]
I finally had Uverse installed after 10+ hours in the store/on the phone/on chats trying to get ATT to live up to the multiple emails about services I could not get (like streaming on my phone BEFORE the install date - which was over 3 weeks after I called to get Uverse). Anyway, most things cleared up after install, except it says my Android is rooted and won't play live TV. It's not rooted, but I see this has been an issue with ATT for years, so I don't expect there to ever be a fix (regardless of what the persistently say, I don't think the value their customers at all, and the "service" part of their "customer service" is non-existent. After all that time spent before my install, they gave me a $20 credit. So they "value" me at $2/hour or less...
And now I have at least 12 different pieces of info I need to have to get proper service. I have 4 User IDs, each with its own password. And an Authorization code, and a few random other identifiers. I can't believe how messed up the ATT systems are - piss poor integration!!! All the customer service reps were great at reading their scripts, but most could not address any real issues. No one can be reached directly, and even with my ATT cell phone, and after giving them my number (which they asked me for at the beginning of the call "in case we got disconnected", its "against policy" to call a customer (even when the customer asks for it!!!!). I will say that using the Chat function usually resulted in getting to someone that has a clue, and I sent each Chat to my e-mail after they were over, using a function in the Chat window. This is the ONLY way to get an actual copy of the commitments that ATT fails over and over to live up to. If I have any issues with Uverse, I am fully prepared to take them to small claims court if I have to in order to part with them and not get charged anything for leaving "in contract". They have already completely failed to deliver on multiple commitments to the contract they made with me. After 18 years using TiVo exclusively, my cable provider's service degraded to such crap that I had to cancel. There's a problem on their end, and after sending 6 techs to my house, but NEVER addressing the issue on their end, I had to give up! So, Spectrum, I'm glad I'm gone. TiVo, I miss you SOOOOOO much already! That said the Uverse DVR isn't horrible. NO WHERE near as good as TiVo, but not horrible. It is limited to 4 streams where the TiVo can do 6 per box, and 2 TiVo's can do 12, and you can watch content from one on any other. I likely won't have many times where the 4-stream limit will actually be an issue, but I don't understand why the limit exists at all. If TiVo at least 12 streams a single coax cable coming to my home, why can't Fiber handle 20, 30, 40 streams? Isn't it supposed to have far more bandwidth than coax?

[AT&T Fiber] Ex-bell south area fiber deployment questions
Ex-BS area (25-100Mbps)
Buried copper
Aerial power
ATT has run aerial fiber that has cut through my residential neighborhood. It appears they followed Cox Cable's main distribution lines exactly. The immediate homes along this path all have an optisheath on the pole and fiber service available. No other homes beyond that immediate path can get fiber service. There's no orange tags/service tags, no locating flags, nothing else. Is the rest going to be trenched?
There is a pedestal in the ROW beyond my backyard where they stopped running aerial fiber. Don't know if it is for me, but likely my neighbors. ATT left a lot of slack in a big spool on the ground labeled: C/O North splice. Does this mean that pedestal will be getting upgraded?

ATT TrueBridge Mode for for Ubiquity Security Gateway (USG)
So, I have taken the plunge and replaced my PFSense firewall with a Ubiquity USG. This is an affordable device, around $110 on Amazon, and is the perfect companion to Ubiquiti Unifi wireless access points and its controller if you happen to use any. For the same reason as "rockstar" did with his PFSense thread, I decided to open up a separate topic for those searching for information, without having to go through the "True Bypass" monster thread.
During my research before purchasing, I came across this gem:
https://blog.taylorsmith.xyz/att-uverse-modem-bypass-unifi-usg/
It explains in clear steps what you have to do. The most difficult portion is the trimming of the .json file somewhere halfway. I spent a good 20 minutes on it, and the examples that were given on the site above were of good help.
Remember: when you start following the guide above, you will eventually disconnect from the internet, so make sure you have all the sites open you want open, and have all the files you need before proceeding. Make sure you read every step, don't skip any.
PROS:
Latency decrease. As if the gigapower itself wasn't good enough, a ping to 8.8.8.8 has changed from 3-4ms to a solid 2ms. If you are further away from bigger datacenters, the latency decrease can actually be noticeable.
Speed: Speedtests are the same, really.... 930/930 to 940/940, the maximum you can push through gigabit. No change.
DPI: This is with deep packet inspection enabled on the USG, so you can really keep check to see where your data is going. This is actually a cool feature, it shows you exactly how much hundreds of applications take in data, ranging from Facebook to P2P/Torrent to Netflix to OneDrive to Speedtest.net to Gmail to online games, you name it, and all displayed in a userfriendly and accessible way.
CONS:
No decent IPv6 support yet. Ubiquiti is working on it, and current firmware has "alpha" support for it, but it will be coming soon. If you need IPv6 NOW, don't use this.... if you can wait a few months till Ubiquiti really has their IPv6 ironed out, we may be able to get it to work in a similar fashion. It may actually work now, I just haven't gotten around to really testing it yet.
NEUTRAL:
I have static IP's. I have them mostly "just because", for the geekness of it, to run servers etc.... but the reality is I managed to consolidate all those back to the one DHCP IP for now (which never changes anyways), so I can take my sweet time figuring out how to get them to work. I'm sure its not that hard, just will take some digging.

ICMPv6 issues with Uverse
Does anyone have a perfectly functioning IPv6 with an MTU higher than 1280?
It seems that some (AT&T?) routers in communication path are filtering out ICMPv6, specifically 'packet too large' messages. This behavior is not consistent, so it appears that only some routes are affected and not all the time (as in load balancing scenario).
What I am seeing is when I set MTU higher than 1280, sometimes IPv6 works great, with correct ICMPv6 messages at appropriate times. Other times I get connection resets and timeouts on IPv6 pages without receiving any ICMPv6 messages.
The only thing that works all the time is setting MTU on my internal RAs to the lowest possible value of 1280, but that is not how IPv6 is supposed to work, it is an ugly workaround for misconfigured carrier routers.
Does anyone have good IPv6 experience without hardcoding restrictive MTU?
I have not reached out to tech support. I am sure their advice would be to restart the router or disable IPv6.
P.S. I am not using any AT&T RG. My connection is straight from my router to ONT. I am not filtering or throttling ICMPv6 on either my router or my PCs. I am getting /60 with DHCPv6-PD with my subnets receiving /64s. I am not using 6rd.

Tired of recent 5268 issues, should I get 599 or 210+HPNA Adapt
Hello,
I currently have:
U-Verse TV with 7 HPNA boxes and the DVR hooked up through Ethernet to my 5268
U-Verse Voice
50mbps down on a DSL connection (not FTTP)
I use my own mesh system for Wi-Fi and have the 5268 in DMZ+ mode, so the only thing connected to it is the DVR and one mesh node.
I’m tired of all of the recent firmware issues, 11.1 breaks DMZ+ and VoIP, 10.7 is super sluggish and keeps enabling the built in WiFi, 10.5 is not as stable as 10.7.
Should I request a tech to bring me a NVG599, or a BGW210 and buy the TPA311 coax to Ethernet Adapter. I don’t think fiber is coming to my house anytime soon, but a rep did say I would be upgraded to 75mbps this spring/summer.
Thanks in advance!
