VPN pass-through on a BG-210

For some reason I cannot connect to an external VPN for work for my downstream router (Netgear Orbi system) through my BG-210 that I have sent to IP pass-through to a fixed MAC address (that of my Orbi). I've tried multiple different settings and can't get it to work successfully. However by connect directly through the BG-210 I can connect to the remote VPN without problem. Any idea how I can change configuration so that it works? By the way, I'm on copper U-verse not fiber so the option of bypassing the RG isn't available to me as far as I know.

What speed test do you use for U-Verse speeds

I tried att.com/speedtest and it's showing 90+ consistently. I use speakeasy.net an it shows barely half that. And speedtest.net shows in the range 80. What gives?

Powering ONT with POE

I had my ONT replaced with the Lucent/AT&T G-010G-A...(using the Unifi USG Bypass). Is this gateway better than my old one (see photo). Anyways, they unplugged my AT&T UPS so I need a new solution for backup power. Has anyone powered their ONT with POE? Is there a loss in speed/performance? Which injector/splitter do you recommend? I am looking into these: 1) Splitter: https://amzn.to/2Q0XWqy or https://amzn.to/2oxz2Ct 2) Injector: https://amzn.to/2N8EvOa Which splitter should I use? Not sure about the difference.

At&t Fiber coming to Milwaukee,WI?

Hey all, just wondering if anyone here has any clue when we can expect At&t Fiber to be rolled out to residences in Milwaukee. Has anyone heard anything? Milwaukee was announced Dec 7 2015, and I don't know of anyone outside of some apartments or condos that can get it. Last year I saw a bunch of orange conduit being buried, but really haven't seen much lately. Now that Spectrum is offering 300mbit in southeastern Wisconsin, I would think ATT is dead if they don't roll out fiber. Here's the announcement article: http://archive.jsonline.com/business/att-to-launch-ultra-fast-internet-service-in-milwaukee-in-2016-b99629771z1-360815221.html

Thinking of getting a FIber bundle, renew promos?

So I was looking into getting one of the fiber bundles w/ U-Verse TV, however the increase after 12 months seems a little sharp (as with most TV bundles.) I was just wondering if anyone has had good luck getting either new promo prices after their initial period was up. I realize that is no guarantee for 12 months from now, but I guess I am looking for a more general trend for AT&T Fiber in general so far.

New Internet 75 & DirecTV

After 2 years with Cox on their 300/30 plan I'm going back to At&t, though I now live in a different house from my previous At&t experience on 18/2. With me now approaching Cox's 1 TB cap and the $50 it would cost to get unlimited, it's far cheaper for me to bundle At&t and DirecTV even off contract and drop Cox/Vue/Hulu. Now I have a few questions about my new install on Friday: -Will it be any issue to get them to install the RG in a closet in the center of my home? This is also my media closet for the living room and I can attest it's easy to get to and find in my attic. -What RG are they shipping these days? I was last on a NVG589. My understanding is I'll still have to do some half assed pass thru setup to use my own pfsense router and APs? -When they are here, what are the odds of getting them to run an ethernet cable between that closet and another room where I'll be getting a genie mini anyway? -In my media closet I simply route all my cables through a big panel, will they insist on putting their own wall plate up in there as well? No real big deal if they, just curious. -What can I expect to be provisioned at? Thanks in advance for any info!

[AT&T Fiber] ONT Dimensions?

I'm trying to prepare for a fiber install on Monday and want to see what sort of space I'll need in my wiring closet. Can someone please measure their ONT and let me know the dimensions? From pictures it looks like it's maybe 5"x8" and that's going to be tight. Thanks!

QoS in IP Passthrough Mode

I was reading how IP Passthrough mode works, but I couldn't find a specific answer to this... After "bypassing" the RG and using my own router (Asus AC5300), will my QoS rules still apply to devices connected to the AC5300 and work properly? Or will any QoS have to be implemented on the RG?

[AT&T Fiber] Do USB 3.0 to Gigabit adapters cause buffer bloat normally?

I just upgrade to 1000/1000 from 300/300 on my AT&T fiber. My laptop that I use as my main computer has no Ethernet port in it, so I bought a USB 3.0 to Gigabit Ethernet adapter to use so I could get closer to full speed, my WiFi wasn't giving me close enough to full speed. The problem I am now having is serious buffer bloat when running the DSL Reports speed test. Is this an issue with such adapters normally? I am now getting C and D rating on buffer bloat whereas over WiFi I was/am getting A ratings.

Router behind gateway

I'm trying to increase my WiFi coverage and download speed by turning off WiFi broadcast on the pace 5268AC gateway and placing my router behind it. Has anyone been successful doing that and what type of routers have been used?

Connection problem

Hi same thing I post on the AT&T Direct. I was tell one person in the AT&T direct post about my problem with my internet connection that been disconnecting and connecting a lot just about every night after 9 pm CDT. There has been lot of these emergency network maintenance going on with my line and message ID NAD-3302. I told him that maybe it is due to an very old surge protection or i think it was a power strip that is near 20 or 25 years old. I said to him that my Motorola NVG510 rename too Arris NVG510 after a firm ware update that happen in June. Not sure if that is the cause of it. Also told him I had a tech out here before in the spring this year. He gave me a new modem and also switch a cable out and replace it with a green cat5 e twisted pair cable. He told me that network maintenance activities typically start at about midnight local time and usually only last till about 4am local time. That is assuming they are working on it at night. Not every night is a maintenance night for your area. It kind of depends on scheduling and such. A bad or older power strip/surge suppressor could be a good and silent culprit. I would look for power loss events. Another thought to keep in mind, if the power strip is not supplying enough for the modem's power supply the modem can act erratically and drop connections even when it looks fully powered and accessible. On June 30 I went to Best Buy and I bought myself a surge Protector that is 600 jolt and has built in EMI amd RFI noise filtering (which act like a choke coil or Ferrite Ring that you see on DVI cable for computers and USB and some power plug too like for printers and scanners) to filter out noise that is on the AC (Alternating current) which is great for me since I live in a apartment. I wouldn't mind snapping Ferrite Ring on a dsl data cable I have and see what it will do and maybe make the SN Margin (dB) levels much more higher and filter out the noise where ever it coming from. After I plug the new surge protector in That Saturday June 30 the same thing happen. Last week Friday It was pretty bad it was unstable SN Margin (dB) on the downstream very low numbers and even as low as -4.3 and -5 and the CRC Errors were jumping up right away at high rate. It disconnect and connect like 24 or more time between 9 pm and 11 pm. I even had numbers showing up in the Loss of Frame to and Loss of Signal on the downstream. I called att help desk they said it might be problem with the box somewhere outside on there end like on the building or by road Even after 12 am it was doing the same for a little bit but internet was usable beside the phone that was blank and I try to restart the phone or reactive it but not luck until before 5:40 am this morning I click on Reset Device and that brought everything back to online and normal use with Downstream Sync Rate (kbps) ot 3600 and CRC Errors slowing going up every 3 to 10 mins like normal and SN noise levels are normal at 6.9 to 11. On July 7 that evening/ night same time like 9 pm CDT and same thing with SN Margin (dB) starts at between 6.0 and 11 and goes went down to the low numbers to - 4.5 has the CRC error numbers went up at a higher rate than normal. Downstream Sync Rate (kbps) was between 3600 and 3400. Than it disconnection and than connection. That even on July 7 at 11:20 pm CDT The connection came back to normal stats and working good and stable connection for about 40 to 50 mins. The Downstream Sync Rate (kbps) is just under 2500. SNR margin downstream is between 16.9 and 17.9 and CRC Errors is still at 1. and the connection still was holding and stable for the rest of the night. I was just about too put a DSL Filter on the my att u-verse see if that will help. Is there a way to do a deep line test scan on the connection. Too see what the cause it is.. I was thinking if 600 jolt protection is enough or go too 720 or 1000 jolts or higher and also is the built in EMI and RFI is causing problems. I was going to go to stables or office depot/ office max to check out what they have and buy a 1000 jolts or higher one. Matt

U-Verse + iOS + YouTube

Just a few days ago, YouTube stopped streaming actual video content (channels, thumbnails, etc display OK) to any of my 8 iOS devices via native YT app or via Safari/Chrome. It appears to stop at the pre-roll ad (or initial frame) and the wheel keeps spinning until I get a YT error message. All of my other wireless devices (MacBook Pro, FireTV, game consoles, etc) stream YT just fine. I have an Asus RT-AC68U router with the latest firmware (3.0.0.4.384_32738) installed. For the most part, all QOS, firewall features, etc. are set to its default settings. These settings haven't changed for over 3-years. My suspicion is that the AT&T network is blocking YT traffic to iOS devices. The reason I suspect this is that I switched off the RT-AC68U routing capabilities and turned on the U-Verse router, and I'm still not getting any video streams. Also, the AT&T tech pushed "their" U-Verse settings, which turned on the AT&T router, and still no video streams. YT app and Safari/Chrome access work just fine over my mobile data connection. And the YT app and Safari/Chrome access also works fine on my neighbor's WiFi network with Cox as their ISP. Is it possible that AT&T is monitoring/blocking YT traffic to iOS devices? Also, could I have a bad modem? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi I am running the Asus AC5300 behind the pace 5268AC. My question: Is it possible to change the "First DHCP Address" and the "Last DHCP Address" on the pace 5268? I would like to use the "OpenDNS" servers" in these empty spaces, I am mentioning LAN page of the gateway there is the DHCP tab and "First DHCP Address" and the "Last DHCP Address" are currently. Thank you

Alienwate 17 R5 Loses Ability to Load Internet Sites

I'm pretty sure that this isn't a U-Verse or router problem but didn't see a better place to post. Very infrequently (maybe once a week) my Alienware 17 loses the ability to load websites using Edge, Internet Explorer or Firefox or reach email servers using Outlook 2016 Mail. The Internet icon in the taskbar's lower right corner lists my wireless network as connected and says "Internet Access." Right clicking that icon and disconnecting/reconnecting to my network doesn't fix it. When I restart the laptop things start working again. I have the latest drivers and have used the Alienware SupportAssist's "Optimize Network" option. Today it happened again. This time I was playing poker on Pokerstars.net and that connection remained fine. I noticed the connection problem when an error message popped up from Outlook Mail. Checking the web browsers showed that they couldn't connect to any sites that I tried. After my poker game I rebooted the laptop and things started working as usual again. FWIW, 2 other laptops and my iPhone continue to access the Internet fine when the Alienware has this problem. Anyone have any idea why this problem happens? Any help greatly appreciated!

ATT Uverse 50 download speed slower then upload.

for the past couple of days , my ATT 50 download speed has been around 7 Mbps and the upload has been 18Mbps. When I first got the 50M plan ,I was getting 48 to 52 Mbps down and 18 Mbps up. I have rebooted my modem several times and it has not helped. Could ATT have reset something by mistake? The last time I had speed problems years ago an ATT tec on this board mention a redback profile reset and everything went great. What do I tell ATT customer service to check ?

Bypassing gateway with ERL and eap_proxy question.

Does it matter which gateway (Pace 5268, NVG599, BGW-210, etc) is used if using an Edgerouter and the eap_proxy bypass method? I have an install coming up and would request a specific gateway if it is required.

[IP-TV] Switch from DTV

We currently have DTV. If we switch back to Uverse TV, can the 5268ac gateway still support HPNA over coax? Keeping coax would simplify the switch. I'm thinking that only one cat5 run from the gateway to the existing DTV genie would need to be run. Then existing coax to the other two TV's could be used. If I switched to all cat5, three new cat5 runs would be needed. Looking to the future and possible new Uverse TV DVR's and STB's at some point, should I just go all cat5 if we switch? All this will depend on what kind of promo DTV will give us to keep DTV. We currently can only get ATT 25 internet so I know I will have to share bandwidth with Uverse TV. ATT fiber is all around us but I see no upgrade to my neighborhood coming. We have the bgw210 gateway now. [AT&T Fiber] RG Bypass & pfSense IPv6

$

So the other topic closed/locked and wanted to ask on this. I've been running pfSense 2.4.4 on bypass using the vlan switch method for a few weeks. Everything has been fine except IPv6. I'm not sure if I'm coming up on my old one expiring so it can request a new one yet but I know it doesn't work at this moment. That said the older pfSense releases required some patches and scripts to work but 2.4.4 has all of this native. Anyone running 2.4.4 know what settings I should have? I have the following enabled: Send an IPv6 prefix hint to indicate the desired prefix size for delegation (set to 64) Do not wait for a RA I have the LAN set to track the WAN Under networking the DUID is set to raw with the ending showing the RG mac. I saw talks about DUID-EN being needed but is that really true? At one point my Netgear router had IPv6 fine, I just had to wait for the RG's lease to expire out and was thinking that's all this needed. Of course if you're not waiting you'd have to clone that DUID for it to work right away again. Anyway the info is all over the threads so hard to track so just wanted this dedicated ipv6 one :)

Script to check ATT Fiber coverage

I got the inspiration from the Century Link forum for mapping availability of ATT Fiber in a particular area. The idea is to grab a box on google maps using two addresses (NE and SW) then get a list of addresses and pass that on to the ATT Fiber availability webpage. Well I spent a day learning Python and another porting the code to AT&T and here is result https://www.easymapmaker.com/map/13bc08adc1c47818afd6437933d7ce4d Please see my github page here for the scripts https://github.com/enkur/ATT-Fiber-Check Next task would be to do something like this https://github.com/mtdoyle/CLSpeedPhantomJS/blob/master/README.md This can cull through large addresses and create a super detailed plots like this https://www.easymapmaker.com/map/cl_speed_1-15-2015
