New Internet 75 & DirecTV

After 2 years with Cox on their 300/30 plan I'm going back to At&t, though I now live in a different house from my previous At&t experience on 18/2. With me now approaching Cox's 1 TB cap and the $50 it would cost to get unlimited, it's far cheaper for me to bundle At&t and DirecTV even off contract and drop Cox/Vue/Hulu. Now I have a few questions about my new install on Friday: -Will it be any issue to get them to install the RG in a closet in the center of my home? This is also my media closet for the living room and I can attest it's easy to get to and find in my attic. -What RG are they shipping these days? I was last on a NVG589. My understanding is I'll still have to do some half assed pass thru setup to use my own pfsense router and APs? -When they are here, what are the odds of getting them to run an ethernet cable between that closet and another room where I'll be getting a genie mini anyway? -In my media closet I simply route all my cables through a big panel, will they insist on putting their own wall plate up in there as well? No real big deal if they, just curious. -What can I expect to be provisioned at? Thanks in advance for any info!

[AT&T Fiber] ATT is replacing BGW210 for a 5268AC

Hi After many hours with ATT technical support trying to enable the BGW210 5 ghz band and Ethernet ports without success, which stopped working after a reset, they are sending me a 5268AC. The 5268AC is older than the BGW210, is there a big difference between the two? I was able to place my asus behind the BGW210 and it worked great for 6 months. I am going to be able to do the same with the 5268AC? Do you have any suggestions? Thank You in advance for any suggestion Mario

[AT&T Fiber] Data cap strictness

To the people that have the Gigafiber below 1Gbps I mean people with 100Mbps and 300Mbps plans, how strict is AT&T with the 1TB dta cap? Is it barely monitored or are they enforcing it? Thanks, I'm about to get my install on Tuesday and want to make sure of that before canceling Spectrum. (moderated - split this off to a new topic; was in the "Mega List" topic)

New to gigapower. AT&T is throttling FTP connections. What now.

So I've finally got AT&T gigapower fiber installed. Switched from Comcast Biz. At certain hours, I noticed that AT&T throttles FTP transfers to around 10Mbit/s. Enabling a VPN immediately gives me back ~600Mbit/s transfer speeds. There's another thing I noticed, and I don't know if this is gateway's doing or AT&T itself, but during normal hours without VPN, I see transfer speeds climb up slowly but surely, finally reach to around 300Mbit/s, then boom, a very sharp decrease to around 40Mbit/s, slowsly climbs back up again to around 250-300Mbit/s, then again a sharp decrease to ~40Mbit/s. And this cycle repeats. Any ideas what's going on here?

[AT&T Fiber] speed test question from new member

Hello, group, Just joined. A couple of days ago I went from AT&T Uverse 5mbps to 100mbps. I've been told 2 different things from AT&T. One is that I do have fiber optic and the other is that I do NOT have fiber optic. So, I'm not sure if I am in the right group. Taking a speed test, I've been getting about 35mbps download average and about 20mbps upload average. The range over the last couple of days is about 20 to 50mbps download. I do understand the fluctuation reasons about sharing the broadband with different computers and tablets. Question I have is...on my computer I get a higher reading than when I take a reading on my Amazon Kindle Fire. The Kindle Fire always reads slower. Can someone please comment about whether or not I am receiving about what I should be getting. Also what does the QUALITY designation mean? I have been getting usually a D but just this morning I got a C. Thanks very much for any responses.

[IP-TV] Keep Losing U-verse Signal after BGW210 Firmware Update

I didn’t want to take over the BGW210 1.6.7 thread with this issue so thought I’d make a new thread. After receiving the update to 1.6.7 on our BGW210, both the DVR and Wireless STB constantly lose signal and we have to either change channels or wait it out. I spoke with support yesterday and the rep sent a “strong signal” to the RG and had me unplug/re-plug the DVR about 4 times or so to reload the software. She then instructed me to call back for a tech visit if it acts up again. It worked fine for about 6 hours but then the same issue occurred. Called for a truck roll. Same thing happened Friday. I rebooted the RG, worked fine for a while, then back to the same issue. One thing I noticed is that the rep didn’t ask me to perform a hard reset. Is that worth a try or should I just wait for the tech? Internet still seems fine. Thanks!

BGW210-700 Won't Forward Ports

I recently upgraded Uverse ADSL service and ATT installed this gateway. It will not forward ports even though the NAT/Gaming applications are correctly configured. Firewall status shows NAT Default Server: OFF Nobody in ATT seems to understand why this is so. ATT has suggested via Community Forum ideas like firmware upgrade problem to feature lockdown. My older 2-wire gateway had no issue. Any help is much appreciated.

[AT&T Fiber] How long

Is AT&T rolling out fiber? I live in a suburb outside Cleveland Ohio. AT&T has DSL available here and the other provider is Cox. The DSL is so slow so of course Cox gets the business. The lines are buried here. Will AT&T install fiber so we’ve got another provider?

Suggestions for improving line performance

I help take care of a small office that's located inside an older strip mall building. We recently upgraded an old 6/1.5 service that had been migrated from ADSL to VDSL to 50/10 bonded pair. The old service appeared to be a 25/2 profile on 8 MHz that was speed capped down to 6/1.5, the new is on 17 MHz (we are fortunate enough to be on a newer K or N card). It seems to be having some noise issues (see screen shot) so I was thinking of replacing the run from our unit to the building phone room with some shielded Cat5e we had left over. I believe the demarc point is that phone room so it's up to us to fix it from there. Anyone have any other ideas or suggestions where I should look?

ATT TrueBridge Mode for for Ubiquity Security Gateway (USG)

So, I have taken the plunge and replaced my PFSense firewall with a Ubiquity USG. This is an affordable device, around $110 on Amazon, and is the perfect companion to Ubiquiti Unifi wireless access points and its controller if you happen to use any. For the same reason as "rockstar" did with his PFSense thread, I decided to open up a separate topic for those searching for information, without having to go through the "True Bypass" monster thread. During my research before purchasing, I came across this gem: https://blog.taylorsmith.xyz/att-uverse-modem-bypass-unifi-usg/ It explains in clear steps what you have to do. The most difficult portion is the trimming of the .json file somewhere halfway. I spent a good 20 minutes on it, and the examples that were given on the site above were of good help. Remember: when you start following the guide above, you will eventually disconnect from the internet, so make sure you have all the sites open you want open, and have all the files you need before proceeding. Make sure you read every step, don't skip any. PROS: Latency decrease. As if the gigapower itself wasn't good enough, a ping to 8.8.8.8 has changed from 3-4ms to a solid 2ms. If you are further away from bigger datacenters, the latency decrease can actually be noticeable. Speed: Speedtests are the same, really.... 930/930 to 940/940, the maximum you can push through gigabit. No change. DPI: This is with deep packet inspection enabled on the USG, so you can really keep check to see where your data is going. This is actually a cool feature, it shows you exactly how much hundreds of applications take in data, ranging from Facebook to P2P/Torrent to Netflix to OneDrive to Speedtest.net to Gmail to online games, you name it, and all displayed in a userfriendly and accessible way. CONS: No decent IPv6 support yet. Ubiquiti is working on it, and current firmware has "alpha" support for it, but it will be coming soon. If you need IPv6 NOW, don't use this.... if you can wait a few months till Ubiquiti really has their IPv6 ironed out, we may be able to get it to work in a similar fashion. It may actually work now, I just haven't gotten around to really testing it yet. NEUTRAL: I have static IP's. I have them mostly "just because", for the geekness of it, to run servers etc.... but the reality is I managed to consolidate all those back to the one DHCP IP for now (which never changes anyways), so I can take my sweet time figuring out how to get them to work. I'm sure its not that hard, just will take some digging.

[IP-TV] Client unprovisioned error

Hey guys. I was on the phone for a while with support yesterday trying to get some billing issues squared away with my U-Verse IPTV service. While I was on the phone with the rep, they made a change to my account to downgrade my service as requested. Once the change was made, I received an error stating: "Client unprovisioned on . Please call customer care to provision your client" followed by the client ID and the client IP address of 162.236.x.x (internal, non-routable?). AT&T support is now stating that it's a hardware problem and that they need a tech to swap out the box. This does not make sense to me. Has anyone ever encountered this error and if so, how were you able to resolve it? BTW, DHCP is enabled on the RG. Thanks in advance!

[AT&T Fiber] I hate my fiber connection

I have had my fiber service for about 4 months now. I have observed the following: 1) The wifi from the modem is not good. Constant drops despite having good connection. 2) Service requires me to reboot my modem and sometimes my computer a few times a week. 3) Bittorrent speed is normally slow...My Spectrum 100meg connection was constantly faster. Has anyone else had similar issues? Have suggestions?

Recently I'm getting more like 50/5 or 60/10 instead of the 100/20 I used to get. It does vary a lot now, never used to and 85/20 is the very best it gets, if at all. Line stats look okay. FW version is 10.7.0.530220-att. Should i reboot the RGW? call support? or ?

Script to check ATT Fiber coverage

I got the inspiration from the Century Link forum for mapping availability of ATT Fiber in a particular area. The idea is to grab a box on google maps using two addresses (NE and SW) then get a list of addresses and pass that on to the ATT Fiber availability webpage. Well I spent a day learning Python and another porting the code to AT&T and here is result https://www.easymapmaker.com/map/13bc08adc1c47818afd6437933d7ce4d Please see my github page here for the scripts https://github.com/enkur/ATT-Fiber-Check Next task would be to do something like this https://github.com/mtdoyle/CLSpeedPhantomJS/blob/master/README.md This can cull through large addresses and create a super detailed plots like this https://www.easymapmaker.com/map/cl_speed_1-15-2015

AT&T Gigapower rollout in the CA Bay Area

$

Hi all, A friend of mine just had Gigapower installed at his residence in San Jose. During the installation appointment, the techs mentioned that AT&T's goal is to roll out Gigapower within the entire Bay Area by the end of 2017. Wondering how true that is? I live in a subdivision that was built in 2002 and right across from me is a brand new subdivision which is gigapower wired and yet mine is not :( Hoping they'd fix that soon as I would like some sweet gigabit juice as opposed to being stuck with Comcast :\ Thanks!
