Opt Out of ATT Spying

I just received an email to opt out of ATT spying on you for advertisements. This should be automatic and not require you to opt out. ATT is horrible. Opt Out Here: http://att.com/cmpchoice This is to Opt Out of: 1. External Marketing & Analytics Reports 2. DNS Error Assist 3. Relevant Advertising said by att is stupid : Your trust is important to us. So we are pleased to improve your ability to choose how you receive advertising. If you subscribe to satellite TV or wireless service from AT&T, you can already make a choice not to receive Relevant Advertising based on AT&T information by visiting a single, centralized website: att.com/cmpchoice. Now, if you are an AT&T U-verse® TV or Internet subscriber, you can also make a choice about whether to receive such ads by going to the same website. Relevant Advertising uses aggregate information about groups of people to develop ads that are more likely to be useful to that group. If you opt out of receiving them, it doesn’t mean you won’t see ads, just that they won’t be as relevant to you. The new opt-out means that you won’t be served Relevant Advertising based on your AT&T data, such as your billing zip code. It’s also important for you to know, as a consumer, that most online Relevant Advertising is not controlled by your Internet service provider (such as AT&T). You can visit advertising industry websites here and here to make choices about receiving many of these ads. Our Privacy Policy has not changed. Neither has our commitment to giving you choices and keeping your trust. You can change your choices at any time, and learn more at att.com/privacy. Thank you for choosing us, AT&T

Gigapower upgrade....

Recently fiber based U-Verse became available in the neighborhood (still waiting on that supposed email notification I signed up for announcing availability....). Stupidly I called in to place the order, the rep was very nice, ordered DirecTV and 1Gbps service, got an install date and a confirmation email. On the day of the install I got a feeling something wasn't right, sure enough I called and they had no record of my account and said I'd have to reorder service. I should've just ordered online, but the agent transferred me to his supervisor who convinced me to place the order over again, but this time she put me on the 45 meg plan, said that I couldn't order the 1Gbps until after the service was installed and they would have to run tests and then I could place an order for the 1Gbps upgrade. I had service installed this afternoon, and as soon as the order was closed I placed the upgrade, thinking it would be just provisioning for the new service, after some run around between multiple agents after calling in to check on it, I was given an install date and apparently a technician has to come out....again next week to change out the modem (have the 5268ac now)? Is this normal? Or just typical AT&T dysfunction?

Channels being added to my Uverse TV without me wanting to

Hi, I have ATT Universe TV fiber. I keep getting channel 1598 being added to my channels which is some Ad about boxing which I don't care for. This is one of the many channels that I hide. I go to hide it and after a day or two is back again. And no I am not ignoring it because this is not the only channel that gets added without me wanting to. Another thing this Ad type channels that are added without me wanting to have to press the remote button up and down at least 5 to 8 times until it changes the channel. And no is not the remote or batteries as other regular channels change instantly when pressing the remote button. And it only happens on Ad channels, QVC, some event I don't care for, buy this or that (again I hide all this channels). It never happens on regular channels, meaning regular channels never get added or removed. I have a IPH8010 but I don't think it has anything to do with it. Any idea what can be done about it ?

Netflix offers Open Connect peering- to allow 1080p pq. Does AT&T Gigapower deliver that level? If not, then what pq is actually available?

Is this Opt Out change creating DNS issues? I can't load certain sites all of a sudden... I guess I could always switch to google's dns, but wanted to make sure it wasn't just me.

After not seeing any internet available , after having just dialtone installed last week I am now able to get uverse . Yay! I am bundling it with DTV There is currently a DTV dish in place ( along with Dish an Hughes net ) . There is currently only a temped line to the house to a new NID So with uverse over copper , what equipment will be installed? How is data fed to the router (gateway ?) I have coax to the location now. How is voice supplied? Does it still feed from the NID ? Ranch house with a good crawl space.

Gigapower rebranding?

I just received this email from AT&T. It looks like they might be dropping the Gigapower label as well as U-Verse. Important account information Hello XXX, We'd like to thank you for being a valued AT&T Internet customer and let you know of some efforts we're making to simplify your Internet experience. Back to basics: Over the next several months your AT&T GigaPower service will be renamed "AT&T Internet 300." Fiber remains at the heart of our network: You'll continue to receive your Internet service over our 100% AT&T fiber network, offering you the ultra-fast speeds you've come to expect. With faster speeds, data is king: With your AT&T Internet 300 plan, you'll continue to have a full terabyte per month of home Internet data allowance. Your connection, your data: We're ending our AT&T Internet Preferences advertising program, which means you'll continue to receive your Internet service at the same low rate, and we will no longer use or scan individual web browsing information, search data or other Internet communications for this program. Thank you, AT&T

Regarding the link on the front page that says Gigapower is coming to 11 new markets (which includes Columbus GA), I called up ATT and they said that I only qualified for Max Plus. I had that service for 8 months prior to the municipality rolling out FTTP service on the Alcatel 7342 platform with Motorola VIP22x2 STBs (which I currently have). However, when I enter my zip code in zap2it, it lists (in addition to Opelika Power Services) "ATT U-verse (Columbus)." Is has been appearing that way on zap2it for months. Until today, I had thought that was just a mistake. But, as of today, this changed my mind. Does that mean that the rollout is going to include Opelika? Currently, I have symmetrical 30Mbps (bursty to 35mpbs) service for $59.95 per month. I could upgrade to 50/25 service for $5 more per month if I so choose, but find no need unless we cut the cord and go with PlayStation Vue all-in. Currently waiting for Sony to roll out an update to my TV that brings PS Vue and (hopefully) HBO Now. Opelika is, after al, part of the Columbus, GA DMA...

Using an Ubiquiti Edgerouter with AT&T Gigapower fiber

http://bzsparks.com/?p=194 I was really excited when I found out that AT&T was running fiber to our neighborhood. For the last 5 years we've been limping along with 5mbps DSL. After the install I started poking around in the provided AT&T gateway, the Arris 5268AC. I was immediately disappointed with the lack of control it provided for my network; specifically absent was the ability to add any additional routes to the route table. I would need this functionality for my site-to-site vpn tunnel. This among other deficiencies led me to research options to add more control. Surprisingly this particular gateway does not provide a true IP pass-through or bridged mode. The closest you can get is the DMZ+ functionality which still sits behind the devices stateful firewall. After some research I found a few great posts how others have overcome the limitations of the AT&T provided solution. The posts below were great resources when building my configuration. http://blog.0xpebbles.org/Bypassing-At-t-U-verse-hardware-NAT-table-limits https://strscrm.io/bypassing-gigapowers-provided-modem.html https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r30708210- With this solution, like the others, we utilize the AT&T provided gateway to authenticate our service but nothing more. To accomplish this we will bridge two interfaces allowing 802.1X/EAP traffic to the Arris gateway for authentication while utilizing an additional interface for LAN traffic. First, we need to pull our connection specific information. You'll need the following, all available from the AT&T provided gateway. I currently have a static IP provided by AT&T but I believe with a little extra work DHCP should be possible. IP address Gateway IP Gateway MAC address Once everything is connected as shown above run the following commands: Create the bridge interface: set interfaces bridge br0 Add eth1 and eth2 to br0: set interfaces ethernet eth1 bridge-group bridge br0 set interfaces ethernet eth2 bridge-group bridge br0 create a sub-interface on br0 with your static IP: set interfaces bridge br0 vif 0 address X.X.X.X/X set your routing: set protocols static route 0.0.0.0/0 next-hop X.X.X.X define a source NAT masquerade rule for the br0.0 interface: set service nat rule 5000 outbound-interface br0.0 set service nat rule 5000 type masquerade Next we need to allow the gateway to pass auth traffic through the bridge echo 8 > /sys/class/net/br0/bridge/group_fwd_mask Because of the nature of an interface bridge all traffic is copied to both interfaces. Running a tcpdump on the Arris interface shows all ingress and egress traffic. To only allow 802.1X/EAP traffic to the gateway we need to use ebtables. ebtables -t filter -A FORWARD -i eth2 -p 802_1Q --vlan-encap 0x888e -j ACCEPT ebtables -t filter -A FORWARD -i eth2 -p 802_1Q -j DROP ebtables -t filter -A FORWARD -o eth2 -p 802_1Q --vlan-encap 0x888e -j ACCEPT ebtables -t filter -A FORWARD -o eth2 -p 802_1Q -j DROP Finally, we need to spoof our br0.0 MAC address so that it presents itself as the AT&T gateway. Run these commands as root. ip link set br0.0 down ip link set br0.0 address XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX ip link set br0.0 up Remember every time that br0.0 is created it needs to have its MAC spoofed, this means on every reboot. To accomplish this we will create a simple script in /config/scripts/post-config.d/ #!/bin/bash echo 8 > /sys/class/net/br0/bridge/group_fwd_mask ip link set br0.0 down ip link set br0.0 address XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX ip link set br0.0 up ebtables -t filter -A FORWARD -i eth2 -p 802_1Q --vlan-encap 0x888e -j ACCEPT ebtables -t filter -A FORWARD -i eth2 -p 802_1Q -j DROP ebtables -t filter -A FORWARD -o eth2 -p 802_1Q --vlan-encap 0x888e -j ACCEPT ebtables -t filter -A FORWARD -o eth2 -p 802_1Q -j DROP I hope others find this useful, let me know if you have any questions. Remember tcpdump is your friend when troubleshooting interfaces.

AT&T Gigapower - any rip/replace of copper in Midwest region?

Has anyone in AT&T's Midwest footprint, who present has access to U-Verse, seen AT&T deploy FTTH? I'm wondering if at&t is upgrading infrastructure in this region of the country compared to other regions - all the FTTH deployments I've heard of are in new builds/a handful of cities in OH/IL. Nothing in Michigan, so far.

Promotion about to expire

My one year promo with U-verse is about to expire. I currently have bundle of cell plan, u-verse, internet & phone. I called today to see if they had any new promotions, they offered DirecTV but I can't get DirecTV because of neighbors trees. For the record, I had DirecTV for 20 years and loved it. They said I could not get a promo offer until my current offer expires. How should I proceed?

Finding replacement for a broken Data Cable

Hi I broke my data cable connecting my ATT uverse modem and my wall plug. I have tried buying a "Mediabridge Cat5e Ethernet Patch Cable (15 Feet) - RJ45 Computer Networking Cord - Blue - (Part# 31-399-15B )" Cord with no luck as well as going to best buy and buying a "telphone cable" that they said was what I needed after showing them the cord and pictures of the modem and wall port. Please let me know what I need to buy as I am without internet and TV. Thanks.

Gigapower - static IPs? IPv6? Bandwidth consistency?

AT&T ran fiber through my neighborhood earlier this year, and the website says my address is eligible. I'd like to wait for Google Fiber, but the incumbents in town seem hell bent on slowing that down as much as possible. I've been on Comcast Business for several years now, and service has been pretty unreliable the whole time (bad signal levels, congestion, frequent outages), so been thinking about other options lately. So questions: -Does Gigapower offer static IPs? -If so, do they offer multiple IPs? (I have a /29 with Comcast Business now.) -What's the IPv6 situation look like? Prefix delegation or static? -Is bandwidth consistent? (Have seen on Reddit people saying that the service slows down during primetime, just like Comcast?) Thanks.

Stopped with U-Verse (now use RCN

It turns out the the package was cheaper when I kept all 3 together, so I do...it was for my mom and she pulled the COAX out of the house awhile ago so she is stuck with UVERSE until Comcast can use ethernet. Me, where I live in Chicago seems to be a 3 month turf war between RCN Cable and Comcast....who can offer the fastest speeds, the most innovative TV platform, and the cheapest VoIP bundled in. We all know it costs maybe a penny to make a VoIP call, so why charge for it....the triple play us into thinking it's all cheaper. I finally realized this year, about 4 months into having the highest RCN HDTV package. I live a few mile from downtown Chicago. I hooked up a digital antenna to the roof, and I get 112 channels so far. So I cancelled TV, subscribed to NetFlix and got hooked on a lot of Marvel;s series' like Daredevil, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.and now Jessica Jones. Plus the other innovative, NetFlix only content. I literally am unemployed until I have 2 more surgeries on my knee, but I still have yet time in the day to watch all the content NetFlix has to offer. Unplug the TV from the CableCO, as well as the VoIP phones. Alll that's going to matter now is, HOW FAST CAN FIBER BE DEPLOYED INTO THE DENSEST AREAS FOR RETURN ON VALUE, BUT i ASSUME THERE IS FIBER....IT' JUST DARK... Telco's will, in the end fight over one thing....how quickly, easily, and cheap their fiber can run its fibers into your home. All that will matter is ON-Demand content like NetFlix, of course the locals for news, sport and weather. But I have 2 HD TV sources. The free OTA antenna and the content providers online. Anyone see that NetFlix saw this trend long ago, just look at their pricing upgrades and when they happened...if you see what I see, the pattern is there,

About 4-5 months ago I got a notice that AT&T would be digging up my neighborhood to install fiber. About 3 weeks later they began and were done within 3-4 days. I never got another notice stating that service had been turned up but 2 months ago I went to the gigapower availability website and punched in my address, to my surprise my address could get gigapower. Currently I have comcast business class 50/10, which I have been with for almost 3 years, right after they started to roll out usage caps in Atlanta. I am paying $99 a month for my current connection and don't really have any complaints it has been reliable and is over provisioned around 60mbps. Currently I have 3 months left on my contract with Comcast which will end January 2017 but I am starting to feel the squeeze of a 50/10 pipe so I decided I would step up to gigapower and just have an overlap of providers. I have an enterprise grade firewall running ipfire with a quadport gigabit nic in it so the plan is to connect the gigapower to another port and configure static routing to route certain traffic to different networks or just use it as a backup until the service is canceled. Gigapower won't be installed until November 5th so I have a little while to wait but I will document the entire install and post speedtests and anything else relevant to the processes. I got the package for $70 a month with no equipment rental fee so I will be saving $30 once comcast goes away. Just got it installed today: (I think I need to test on a faster computer, but close enough) Edit to add, some details about the install: yesterday, they did the fiber drop to a new NID box with the ONT outside, and installed the power adapter with battery for the ONT indoors, and ran the two conductor wire for power. Today, they ran a cat5e from the ONT to the new gateway, which is a Pace 5268AC. Not sure about the model of the ONT, likely the G-240G-A? 4x ethernet ports, 2x pots ports.
