I am building in a new home in a planned community. I want to future proof it as much as possible. I recently had a an AT&T tech in the apartment I am renting until my home is built to set up Uverse. He said that some homes in my neighborhood already have fiber optic cable wired already to the house and that copper is used inside until AT&T GigaPower is available and that's what the red port on the residential gateway is for. Do I need to contact AT&T to get fiber optic run to the house or is this a builder question? I am building a home in San Marcos, CA (San Diego, CA.)
