[AT&T Fiber] Question on current ATT Fiber Gateways

I have been a 1000/1000 fiber customer on a crappy Pace 5286 since April 2017 (same unit) and I think it's starting to hate me. Multiple things have failed over the years like WiFi calling but the latest thing is enraging me and all of my connected equipment to my ASUS router (gt-axe11000) is under zero circumstance can I get the router or any of my devices to sync with any NTP servers. I read up on this some and is this a product of ATT in general or specific to the 5286? Are there gateways that will passthrough NTP UDP 123? I called ATT over the weekend and went through their automated system and never got to talk with a human and the only option was a truck roll. They arrive tomorrow morning so which gateway should I request?

Strategy for contract renewal (best price)

Hi all, I’ve had AT&T gigabit fiber for about 10 months now. I remember recently reading a thread about starting price (on first contract signature) and renewals. I’m looking for recommendations on how to keep the price low. I have internet only and I’m not looking to add tv or phones. Any tips will be welcome

POP3 server error message now when using Outlook

&nbsp Since January 3rd, I have been experiencing an issue with the downloading of my "att.net" account emails to my Microsoft Outlook desktop client. I keep getting the following error pop-up message (shown above) indicating that there's an issue with the POP3 email server for my account whenever I try to download email messages to Outlook:quote:Receiving reported error (0x80042110): Your POP3 server is providing inconsistent information. The number of messages returned by the STAT command does not match the number of items returned by the UIDL or LIST commands. Contact your POP3 or Internet service provider.I can send emails from Outlook (via SMTP) successfully, but can only view my emails via AT&T's Webmail interface. This means I am unable to save emails to all the folders that I've already set up in Outlook. After filing a complaint with the FCC, the AT&T Digital Support team responded and I worked with them for several weeks and then was finally told that the issue now needs to be referred to Yahoo, who they say administers the POP3 servers used by AT&T's email service. AT&T Customer Care said in their last email to me - "... you can reach Yahoo directly, as we have confirmed that from the AT&T side that the [Outlook] settings needed are correct. Here is a contact option where you can reach Yahoo directly for assistance: https://help.yahoo.com/kb/new-mail-for-desktop " I then reported the POP3 server error issue several times to Yahoo Customer Care, but all the replies that I received back from them have been generic, boiler-plate responses, either with a 5-step checklist "to identify and fix the source of the problem" or a note about setting up a "secure key." I told Yahoo Customer Care that everything on that 5-step checklist has either been done and that I have already generated a secure key a while ago and it had been working fine. In fact, On February 10th, the Outlook app was actually able to download messages once more (then next going right back to getting the POP3 server error message), indicating that those items are not the cause of this issue. Anyone know what the issue might be and how I can resolve it?

Smart Home Manager = TR-069 = No Bypass

Based on my studies of this subject, my current belief is that activating Smart Home Manager on "my ATT", in combination with Gateway firmware which specifically includes Smart Home Manager in its menus (EAP_proxy), is the cause of much of our bypass problems. TR-069 communication can only occur if the sending and receiving systems are configured for it. All ATT is doing is adding a control layer called TR-069 on top of the normal gateway certificates so that it can do the remote programming of the ATT Gateway that most un-sophisticated users require. ATT knows that bypass methods are incompatible with its Smart Home Manager, but it really, truly, needs that Smart Home Manager in order to afford to expand its fiber deployments. I suggest we stop blaming ATT, and focus on an easy solution to this problem. 1. Disable "Smart Home Manager" on the "my ATT" website. 2. Downgrade Gateway firmware, if necessary, to remove any listing of "Smart Home Manager" (EAP_proxy). For the BGW210-700, you need to have firmware no higher than 2.8.5. ATT wont care as long as you don't ask them to remotely diagnose your Gateway. I look forward to hearing your opinions on this.

[AT&T Fiber] IPv6 Status is Unavailable

Native IPv6 has been working for over a year. In early December I investigated substituting an OpenWRT powered router for the AT&T Gateway as I noticed there was no way to insert my local DNS servers into the IPv6 RA packets using the BGW210. Started with a switch bypass, then grabbed the 802.1x certificates. IPv6 was still working normally at this point properly delegating my local DNS servers. Noticed that IPv6 was gone in late December and discovered I forgot to change the IPv6 DUID in OpenWRT. Fixed the DUID and assumed it would return in time. That was almost three weeks ago. To eliminate the bypass as a problem the BGW210 is now back and my router is behind it. BGW210 still shows IPv6 Status Unavailable. Packet capture between the BGW210 and ONT shows that DHCPv6 requests are being sent but there are no replies. This same behavior was observed with the bypass as well. I suspect something is going on with the ONT or beyond. Reached out to AT&T support but they were unable to resolve it and claim that they have no escalation path except to connectech. I spoke with connectech but it became clear that they had no more access to AT&T's network than I and wouldn't be able to resolve the issue. A new BGW210 was then sent and has been installed. IPv6 Status is still simply "Unavailable". Anyone have ideas on how to resolve this or how to get it kicked to AT&T's network/DHCP team? Given that my IPv4 address did not change with the replacement BGW210 I suspect that the addresses are tied to the ONT. Do we know if there is a way to reset or talk to the ONT? I've power cycled it a number of times and held the reset button for ~10 - 15 seconds until the ONT's lights were all blinking but the behavior stays the same. I even went so far as to manually assign the old IPv6 info to the OpenWRT router but could not get responses from the old default gateway or others that I tried. Traffic capture again showed outbound IPv6 packets but nothing inbound.

Our DVR has stopped recording programs that we have it programmed to record. The shows are still set up my look at the screen showing what series are set to record but they don't record. I have to put them back in again to get them to record. We tried unplugging the DVR to reset it without success, any other ideas how to get it to record what we have it set up to record without putting everything back in again?

[U-verse Voice] Cancelling AT&T VoIP Questions

Hi all: I spoke with retentions a few days ago for a new promotion. I also asked what our Internet 1000 price would be if we dropped phone. Was quoted $40 for Internet 1000 only which sounds good. Right now, we are paying over $30/month easily after tax for home phone. For a while, we have thought about porting to Callcentric or VoIP.ms. My concern is that if we port out, will our Internet be affected? Also, we are getting the Gateway for free right now. Does that also go away? Has anyone done this and had good results? Thanks.

[AT&T Fiber] Using Asuswrt-Merlin to bypass RG

Hi guys, I successfully bypass AT&T's RG using rt-ac68u with extracted certs from both NVG510 and NVG589 No pfSense, or netgraph, or ubiquiti devices, or dumb switch needed. I only tested with rt-ac68u, but the method should work for all Asuswrt-Merlin based wireless routers (Please let me know if it doesn't). Basically, the AiProtection in Asuswrt auto tags net traffic with VLAN, so we only need to update wpa_supplicant which works with extracted certs. More detail here https://github.com/bypassrg/att. Any comments and suggestions are appreciated.

AT&T Fiber Packet loss

For the past week or so I've had trouble with websites loading. Running Wireshark I can see the SYN packets going out over port 443 but no handshake (SYN/ACK) packet coming back from the server. I ran IPERF on a us-east-2 amazon instance and observed 25% packet loss. I've ran a few tests using hping and see either 0% packet loss or 25% packet loss depending on the host. As such it does NOT appear to be an issue with my local connection (using ER-X, no AT&T router), but rather packet loss or a routing issue on AT&T's network. This can be observed by just running wget a few times and watching it hang: For example: wget https://www.github.com --2021-04-04 20:53:26-- https://www.github.com/ Resolving www.github.com (www.github.com)... 140.82.113.3 Connecting to www.github.com (www.github.com)|140.82.113.3|:443... failed: Connection timed out. Retrying. How would I even report this?

[VDSL] New service - VDSL2 service (100Mbps)

I contacted AT&T for VDSL2 service ($35/month for 12 months) but was told I have to lease the modem/router from them for $10/month. I have my own Pace 5268ac VDSL2 modem/router but they said I would still need to lease from them. Why am I unable to use my own hardware?

[AT&T Fiber] How accurate are the AT&T/FCC services available maps?

According to the FCC map, AT&T Fiber is available two blocks south and one block west of me and covers most of my suburb. Since the AT&T site says it isn't available at my address I'm probably completely SOL, right? They don't really "research" any further if it is available? I assume it is because I'm right on the border and they didn't do fiber in the other suburb near me. It's so frustrating. I'm sure this means they will never bring it to my block. AT&T can't offer me more than they could 15 (!) years ago.

Weird Wireless Problem

We have UVerse TV with Fiber 1000 Internet. We have five TV boxes -- two wireless and three hardwired. One of the hardwired boxes was previously wireless. A funny thing happened today. There was a power glitch at 8:30am. Everything reset. After my computer reconnected to the Internet, I ran a speed test. The throughput was only 95Mb. It's normally 940 Mb. After about four hours of troubleshooting, I finally discovered that the problem was caused by the converted TV box flooding the network. Its Wi-Fi radio reconnected to the network while the Ethernet was connected. I can't figure out how to turn the Wi-Fi radio back off, so I just disconnected the Ethernet cable for now so the Internet is back to normal. Does anyone here know how to disable Wi-Fi on the old UVerse boxes?

[AT&T Fiber] Fiber Optic Service at 100 Mbps

AT&T currently only offers service to my house up to 100 Mbps. I was told this is fiber optic, and indeed, the green poles in our neighborhood all say "fiber optic" on them. If this is fiber optic, why can I not get gigabit service? Are new lines required, or does it require upgrading hardware nearby? Numerous people in my neighborhood have been unsuccessfully lobbying AT&T for gigabit fiber optic.

I was read somewhere that change gateway is the only to get a new IP address. But looks like this isn't the case to me. Brought a used BGW210 from eBay, and IP remain the same after plugin.

[AT&T Fiber] ATT techs no longer steal pairs they steal fiber.

My one week new Fiber 1000 connection was down this morning. No signal to the home. The tech goes a hundred yards to the next hand hole and says no signal there. He drives a mile to the VRAD. The tech said found the fiber for my address unplugged flying free and another customers fiber plugged in where mine had been. The tech didnt want to fully reveal what he found, but after I told him I know what stealing a pair meant he acknowledged thats exactly what happened. Apparantly a lazy installer late yesterday didnt want to reach thru a bundle of fiber to find an available port so he pulled out mine to finish his install. Little has changed it seems, old habits remain as technology changes.
