[VDSL] Use your own DSL modem with VDSL Uverse

$

EDIT: YES, it is possible! https://wiki2.andrewpeng.net/uverse_hacking Has anyone used their own DSL modem with Uverse VDSL service? I'm running into a lot of issues with the stock modem not being able to handle the connections and randomly rebooting when I'm using the internet. I know there is eap_proxy but that is for fiber customers, and I am on VDSL service.

[AT&T Fiber] ATT is replacing BGW210 for a 5268AC

Hi After many hours with ATT technical support trying to enable the BGW210 5 ghz band and Ethernet ports without success, which stopped working after a reset, they are sending me a 5268AC. The 5268AC is older than the BGW210, is there a big difference between the two? I was able to place my asus behind the BGW210 and it worked great for 6 months. I am going to be able to do the same with the 5268AC? Do you have any suggestions? Thank You in advance for any suggestion Mario

[AT&T Fiber] Gateway bypass with WPA_supplicant stopped working 2 days ago

Long time lurker, first time poster... I did follow the guides and the gateway bypass has worked wonderfully for about 6 months. However, my USG alerted me that the link was down Saturday (11:38 am PST, 2020-08-09) and it hasn't worked since. I rebooted my USG, double-triple checked the configs (which I had not changed in the first place) but no dice on getting traffic through, despite successful auth: Aug 10 10:35:28 gw01 wpa_supplicant[3909]: eth2: CTRL-EVENT-EAP-STARTED EAP authentication startedAug 10 10:35:28 gw01 wpa_supplicant[3909]: eth2: CTRL-EVENT-EAP-PROPOSED-METHOD vendor=0 method=13Aug 10 10:35:28 gw01 wpa_supplicant[3909]: eth2: CTRL-EVENT-EAP-METHOD EAP vendor 0 method 13 (TLS) selectedAug 10 10:35:28 gw01 wpa_supplicant[3909]: eth2: CTRL-EVENT-EAP-PEER-CERT depth=2 subject='/C=US/O=ATT Services Inc/CN=ATT Services Inc Root CA' hash=[removed]Aug 10 10:35:28 gw01 wpa_supplicant[3909]: eth2: CTRL-EVENT-EAP-PEER-CERT depth=1 subject='/C=US/O=ATT Services Inc/CN=ATT Services Inc Enhanced Services CA' hash=[removed]Aug 10 10:35:28 gw01 wpa_supplicant[3909]: eth2: CTRL-EVENT-EAP-PEER-CERT depth=0 subject='/C=US/ST=Michigan/L=Southfield/O=ATT Services Inc/OU=OCATS/CN=aut02pltnca.pltnca.sbcglobal.net' hash=[removed]Aug 10 10:35:28 gw01 wpa_supplicant[3909]: eth2: CTRL-EVENT-EAP-PEER-ALT depth=0 DNS:aut02pltnca.pltnca.sbcglobal.netAug 10 10:35:28 gw01 wpa_supplicant[3909]: eth2: CTRL-EVENT-EAP-SUCCESS EAP authentication completed successfullyAug 10 10:35:28 gw01 wpa_supplicant[3909]: eth2: CTRL-EVENT-CONNECTED - Connection to [removed] completed [id=0 id_str=] Gateway plugged back in and connected successfully. So I'm very confused. Could AT&T have done something on their end? Have certs been updated? I have not seen anyone else being cut-off like this, so here I am, asking for advice. The authentication servers seem to have changed from 'pltnca' 'chcgil', possibly due to an outage of some sort? But then why does my gateway with the same certificate as my USG connects?

BGW210 Firmware 2.3.4/2.4.4/2.5.6/2.6.4/2.7.1/2.7.7/2.8.5

Just after midnight today (Thursday, March 14th) my internet went down and when it came back up I saw that the firmware on my BGW210 upgraded to 1.9.14. Wonder what's new and changed?

I followed the other topic while I still had that device (BGW-210) and thought his would be useful going forward. My current firmware is 2.8.4 If anyone know has change notes or other details that would be welcome.

My Wifi inspector results

My last post got locked - I am guessing because it turned into bickering factions about ATT Gateways and talking to your neighbors. Look - I have a wifi signal problem. I have gig service that generally runs above 500 mbs, if not 700 mbs, and 10 feet away from the Gateway, I get 20-40 mbs wireless. I am just trying to improve results from the Gateway, and I live in about 800 sf. Multi-unit building. Someone suggested downloading wifi inspector and posting the results. Here they are. The blackline is my network.

Opening ports

I am having a hard time trying to open ports on AT&T BGW210. I have set the BWG210 with passthrough and I am using an ASUS router to provide me with wifi capabilities. I can port forward on my asus and even on my firewall software, but I think the problem is with the AT&T router. I want to open a port like 52699 and follow the instructions to go to NAT/Gaming, I create a custom service but my device, which should be the asus router doesn't appear. Is it possible to open ports when you have another router?

Dumb switch method

Happy to hear the dumb switch method is still alive and well. Just have a question for you on it since I am stuck right now. I am using a Netgear Nighthawk X10 R9000 running DD-WRT and a Linksys 5 port workgroup switch EG005W and followed the instructions you did but to no connection. I am thinking that maybe there are some settings from BGW210 that I needed to use on my router besides just cloning the RGW MAC address . What settings from your AT&T RG did you use in your router config besides just cloning MAC address? I am also thinking of maybe trying another dumb switch that I have a netgear 8 port gig GS108. This is driving me nuts right now... (moderated: changed title)

Black border(s) on most channels

I have a new (2019) TCL 50S425 4K HDR Roku TV connected to U-Verse VIP2250 DVR via HDMI. The tv has a setting for: Picture Size. Options are Auto, Direct, Normal, Stretch, Zoom Auto and Normal are the same picture size. Direct is slightly smaller. Stretch and Zoom are full-screen but if I open the Guide or Favorites the menu grid is chopped off on the left (can’t see channel column) and right sides. The U-Verse box only has the setting option for Resolution: Standard, Widescreen Standard, 720p HD, and 1080i HD. I’ve tried every combination of options and Auto, 1080i produce the best quality - but does nothing about the black borders on most channels. There are some channels (very few) that do come through in full-screen, i.e., 6, 32, 567. The rest (that I checked, about 100) where squished horizontally and/or vertically. TCL says it is U-Verse… U-Verse says it is the manufacturer, the provider of the channel, etc. Is there any explanation? Does anyone have a TV that is full-screen for all U-Verse channels? ps., I have two other TV’s on U-Verse receivers and they all have the same issue(s). I also have TV’s in the garage and office that are OTA and they display all channels in full-screen…

RGW Bypass method timeline from VLAN to Dumb Switch to Certs

I am late to this party because I just got AT&T Gig Fiber but from everything that I have consumed over the last month evolution of bypass methods has gone from VLAN with managed switches to the simple Dumb Switch method to the more involved but sophisticated Certs method. In the VLAN method I remember reading that you needed to copy some RGW settings into your own home router but from what I have read for the Dumb Switch method, because it uses DHCP auto config on WAN all you need to do on your home router is clone the RGW Mac, correct?? I am attempting the dumb switch method with a Netgear Nighthawk X10 running DDWRT and just wanted to be sure that I did not need to enter information Network Setup information from AT&T RGW like the Gateway address/Subnet mask or AT&T DNS info. Also, I don't think it matters but does it matter if router internal address is something other than 192.168.1.1 like 192.168.10.1 ? Maybe after I tackle this I'll grow up into the Certs method if "The Death Star" doesn't kill the bypass method alltogether.

Is there a way to eliminate the BGW210-700 ATT Gateway entirely?

I am nearing 60, so I may just remembering this wrong, however, I thought I remembered reading a post on DSLR that someone was able to totally eliminate the ATT Arris BGW210-700 from their network. Has anyone else seen that before?

I last had Uverse back in 2011ish, Looking to come back

I had u-verse from when it was launched to around 2007 (Project LightSpeed days!!) to 2011. U-verse was 17mbps down 1.2mbps up for me then, that's all the faster it could go on my non pair bonded lines. I live at a totally different home now, I am looking at U-verse/AT&T Internet again they are selling 100mbps/20mbps in my area for $49 with +10 for Modem. I am wondering how realistic that speed is, I am about ~850' from the nearest VRAD (are they even called that any more?, excuse my lack of knowledge, I was last knowledgeable about AT&T u verse 10 years ago!) And do I have to rent AT&Ts Modem for $10 a month? The website is trying to sell me Self install? but for 100/20 I need VDSL2 pair bonding right? Is that still a big ol box that goes near the NID? (Again, go easy on me, its been 10 years) Edit, I took some photos of the AT&T equipment at my house, I had not inventoried since moved here. I will have to run my own lines from the NID to wherever I put my modem, I ripped out almost all of the rats nest of old phone line/security system in my attic when I re-insulated the attic. I have Cat5e that I can run myself, or even COAX (my old Uverse install used coax inside my house) I assume with self install AT&T atleast hooks up the NID for me? I am considering Uverse again because Comcast has been completely unable to get their internet working in my home:https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r32711957-Rain-No-Internet-7-Visits-by-Comcast-Problem-not-fixed I have 100/5 with comcast, which is fine... when it works and doesn't have packet loss for hours a day. 10 month battle with comcast, I am SOOO done with giving them a shot. AT&T is offering free self install, and a $100 gift card right now to sign up... so I might just pull the trigger. Thanks, ~

Does U-Verse have enough bandwidth for google mesh network?

I'm trying to decide if it is worth the $$$ to get the 'Google WiFi Solution' (Google Nest WiFi Router 2 Pack (2nd Generation)). I've read that there could be issues with the modem. I have the Pace Plc 5268AC modem, connected by Internet 1000, fiber (to house). Also, is there a way to see the total bandwidth usage of my entire home network (at the modem)?

[AT&T Fiber] Bypass ATT Fiber Gateway with Asus / Asuswrt-Merlin?

Is it possible to bypass the AT&T Fiber Gateway without having to use an Edgerouter or similar? I have an AX92U and should be able to load up a custom firmware, like Asuswrt-Merlin. But all the instructions I've seen online for bypassing the gateway seem to be directed at Edgerouter-type hardware. I'd appreciate any help. BGW-210 thanks

said by uid://628714 :said by uid://1835003 :Passthrough mode works just fine. Not sure why you wanted to bypass in the first place. Because not everyone trusts AT&T hardware? That's different than "have a specific problem that the AT&T hardware introduces". Me, I don't trust AT&T as a company--hence my doing business with a reseller instead of the mothership.

said by uid://1927588 :AT&T Fiber will sell it to you for $60 for the first year right now, gateway included, and you get free HBO Max too. They're waiving the install fee and you also get $200 in Visa gift cards when you sign up online. After first year, price is supposed to go up to the regular $80/moExactly. It's just math. Figure out your plans, short and/or long term, and do the math. Add to that the ability NOT to do business with AT&T, which has much value to many people.

My BGW210-700 lots its customized configuration settings

I got up this morning, and the AT&T Uverse TV kept going offline waying it had lost contact with Internet. Confirmed with other devices. Then it would come back. Then drop again. So I decided to pull the power cord on the BGW210--700 for 10 seconds and let it reboot. When it came up, I discovered that my local configuration, including gateway LAN address (I use a different private LAN subnet than the default 192.168.1.x) and DHCP settings were back to factory default. The radios were also on (I turn them off and use my own access point that is cat-6 connected to a port on the BGW210-700.). My access code for making configuration changes was back to the factory default that had to read off of the label, too. What a pain in the a** that was to recover from. Currenty, the Software Version says 2.7.7.

[VDSL] TECHS! ADSL line cut by water co. repaired now VDSL2+ RFI?

A couple of weeks ago my wonderful water company (after 811 located my line for them!) cut the line out at the shoulder of the road anyway while digging down to extend water line to new homes being built. I called for a truck roll and line tech came out the same day and ran a temp line from the ped up the street to my NID....at that point no issues still, then trench and bury crew came to bury line and I find that after line installed and buried (to my individual home ped right out in front of my driveway) I have what distinctly sounds like and matches the noise frequency profile of VDSL2+? on amateur 75m band starts around 3.8 Mhz and remains til about 5 Mhz. I don't believe they changed the routing of the newly buried line from the ped up the street to my ped either same pathway. Using a portable shortwave radio I can hear the noise radiating from the electrical outlets in the home as well. Odd as all bury crew would have done is remove the temp line run directly to the NID, and reconnect the old line run from my own small individual ped at my driveway, seems like a simple procedure. Any help appreciated.

[AT&T Fiber] AT&T Fiber rollout strategy

$

Hello, I am sure other people have asked this but is there any strategy to where AT&T decides to roll out Fiber? I see fiber being installed around my area, but I hear it’s mostly due to new homes, and apartment buildings going in. We have 2-3 new neighborhoods being built next to us and I saw AT&T trucks outside. I stopped to ask if they were installing fiber, and they said no they are bringing regular VDSL2 to the new neighborhood. I don’t get what makes them decide where they want to install fiber and where not to. I currently live in a suburb of Detroit. Only thing I can get is Comcast, or 25mbps att service. Thanks.
