[AT&T Fiber] Need Some help with AT&T Fiber and UniFi USG 3P

So admittedly I'm a noob, which is partly why I bought this stuff to learn, but after just bringing down my entire home network, I'm "phoning a friend" and asking for help. As most will know AT&T Fiber for residential is ass backward and has an indoor ONT that goes to an RG (Res gateway) that you cannot "officially" bypass. So I'm asking for someone to explain it like a 5-year-old a few things. I think I know what needs to be done, but hearing it from others will reassure me without the panic attack I just had. It is my understanding I need to put the Arris BGW210-700 in IP Passthrough mode. From there I would go ONT-->BGW210-700--> USG 3P (WAN1)-->USG 3P (LAN1)-->UniFi Switch 16 POE-150W--> UniFi AP-HD Where I fucked up is I don't think I configured on the USG the DHCP server before I turned it off on the BGW210

[AT&T Fiber] Fiber available - Need help in deciding the best option

Have a large 3,600 Sqft two story built about 2002. Coax runs to all rooms and phone lines but phone wiring is Cat3 cable. Can the tech's hook up the fiber box to the coax wiring and if so, what sort of speeds would be possible? Or would it be better & cheaper to ask the tech's to pull CAT5 to the rooms which will really need the high speed backbone? Getting service from cable right now at 100, looking at Fiber speeds of 300 or 1,000. Have used PoE and coax before for internet both with some limitations.

[AT&T Fiber] Any way to bypass att modem using ASUS GT-AC5300?

Was curious if anyone else was using this specific router with att 1000 plan. If so, the options in the advanced settings have all sorts of options that look like could be use to "simplify" bypassing the modem. Don't really wanna shell out $135 for an USG. But I will if I have to if I can't get around their modem. Or if anyone else that uses this router, what were your go to settings? I tried putting the router in AP mode and it significantly improved my wifi speeds and kept them consistent.

Hi They are coming next week to switch me from DirecTV to Uverse. I currently have BGW210 gateway, with 100 plan and is working fine. Does anyone know what gateway I will be getting when I switch? Thank you Mario

DirectTVNow pricing a joke

Looks like a huge hike in pricing hit. The same channel package that was $40 is now $93. That’s a huge hike. The highest plan used to be $75 and now its $125 also.

[VDSL] Timing for calling retention?

I've got about a month and a half before my promo expires on my internet service. What's the best way to time things up when calling in to try and get a deal? Call shortly before the price jump occurs, or call afterward? I have a feeling I won't get far with this considering my "ongoing discount" after promo expires will put me at what the new customer price is now, but thought I might gather some data points if anyone else has had to make that call recently.

ATT Fiber, Sophos UTM instead of gateway

First off this is something I'm trying to achieve. At the moment it's a huge work in progress. The end goal is to be able to use the eap proxy (https://github.com/kangtastic/eap_proxy) on the utm box itself to authenticate the ONT to the gateway. The utm should then receive the public IP and manage all traffic between WAN and LAN. This is roughly models after this thread - https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r31900599-ATT-TrueBridge-Mode-for-for-Ubiquity-Security-Gateway-USG So far the first limitation is utm does not allow vlan 0 to be defined in the UI. This is not entirely a deal breaker as it's possible to define it in the shell. My wan port is on eth1. # vconfig add eth1 0 This defines interface eth1.0 to vlan 0 . I think the next step would be to configure it for dhcp. Then the interface for the ONT gateway needs to be defined similarly. Lets say that's on eth2.0 . The proxy would handles the eap authentication. Things get more interesting from here. The utm already has wan configured at eth1. Somehow eth1 and eth1.0 needs to be bridged so traffic can pass. That's as far as I get with the framework on how to make this work. Thoughts, suggestions, maybe someone has already implemented this in a different way?

Is there any reason to reset NAT sessions? Best to leave them alone or periodically reset?

ATT shaping/tagging UDP?

I was upgraded from Internet 25 to Internet 300 a few weeks ago. The entire time I had a VPN connection that worked without issue. Now when I run an OpenVPN connection via my router (or computer), on UDP the packets are being dropped/resent. Error message: Sun Mar 24 19:05:05 2019 daemon.err openvpn(airvpn)[25186]: AEAD Decrypt error: bad packet ID (may be a replay): [ #58452 ] -- see the man page entry for --no-replay and --replay-window for more info or silence this warning with --mute-replay-warnings I get this error when the VPN is used heavily. Doing a speed test does not cause the error. If I slam the connection all at one time, I will have a million errors in seconds. My normal connection is OpenWRT -> Air VPN. This setup worked perfectly with zero errors under Uverse Internet 25. I have tried changing ports, bypassing the RG, using the vpn software from a computer, AND tried a different VPN service with no success. Errors on UDP galore. However, if I use TCP instead of UDP, no issues at all. TCP is not as fast as UDP, but my router is X86 based with a Skylake G4400T and it can max the VPN connection udp or tcp. So my question is this: Is ATT modifying or deprioritizing UDP packets? This isn't a mobile connection. I bypassed the RG in an effort to see if it was coming from there, but the problem still exists. ATT tech support is useless, so I have done an FCC inquiry into possible data modification via ATT. I have no QoS enabled and even tried Untangle and the problem persists. Edit:I did contact AirVPN and they had me try to tune the MTU values or employing mssfix. None of those solutions work, they suggested the deprioritization issue.

[AT&T Fiber] BGW210 Laggy WiFi

I am not sure what it is but our BGW210 has laggy WiFi at times. Sites simply won't load until I turn WiFi off then back on. I tried a factory reset which temporarily solved the issue but now it is back to being laggy. Could it due to the fact it is automatically picking the channel? Hardwired connection works great. We had a similar issue with the 5268AC so perhaps it is some sort of interference as well. We had our old Comcast Gateway in the exact same spot and never had WiFi issues so I can't figure it out. Thanks!

AT&T Uverse Internet

Didn't know whether to post this under the DSL or Uverse category so if you need to move it please do so. My internet speed is 10Mbps and 1 is what I believe they told me. I've always had Comcast but now unfortunately I'm moving away from their service area. Just moved in to the new "ole" apartment and no phone jack in the bedroom only kitchen. Gateway is a black box not the silver one if that helps any. My question, do I need a phone jack for "internet only" to work? TV will be provided by my Channel Master Antenna+. Thanks.

[AT&T Fiber] BGW210 IP passthrough and port forwarding 443

I've had AT&T fiber for a few months using IP passthrough to my Ubiquiti USG. Everything has been working great but I've noticed that port 443 traffic doesn't get forwarded back to my server. It's the only port I've seen this with. I've disabled wireless on the BGW210 since I have my own WAP. I'm on firmware 1.8.18. The only thing I've found on searches are things dealing with wireless receivers, which I believe refers to people with tv service.

Fiber PoE ONT?

So we have a new customer who is adamant on no drilling into their new brick home with a single Cat6 coming out the side of the house and two Coax feeds. Their network closet is in the middle of the house, no crawlspace, full brick. Other than getting an outlet pulled 10 feet from an existing outdoor outlet is their anyway they can get fiber up and running?

True Bridge mode on pfSense with IPv6 via netgraph

Hi all... I know True Bridge mode has been a heavily discussed topic. Most have had success with the VLAN swap trick or via ebtables or eap_proxy in Linux. However, neither of those worked for me. I just wanted to share my notes on getting things working in pfsense. Hopefully it helps! https://github.com/aus/pfatt

[AT&T Fiber] How to request fiber to the townhouses I live in Memphis

$

So I live in memphis, and all the areas around me have fiber (38111). I currently reside in a townhouse so I figured we might be last, but I haven't seen a truck on my street yet "its been months" I was wondering if there was a process I would need to go through in order to request fiber to the town homes I currently stay in. The property manager has already stated he was down with the plan to allow them to install fiber to the homes but he doesn't have any clue either to contact them. I mentioned the link here https://www.att.com/att/multifamily-property/ and he said that no replied to him when he did and generally those were for bigger sets of apartments/townhomes. So i'm unsure what to do now? Any advice would be great.

[AT&T Fiber] No! Do NOT use AT&T if you have any alternative!!!

Back in the 1990's i used AT&T for my 800 lines. I came to know them as "very polite Nazis". They would make errors, then very politely apologize, but continuously bill me for them. I thought, with the passage of time, perhaps they learned, so when i moved to FL i accepted both their DirecTV and Internet services. By AT&T rep's input errors and AT&T internally cancelling of the DirecTV work order that was completely their error, their computer system would not allow the installation at the prices promised to be reinstated the computer claimed that the special was offered to us too recently and we no longer could have it. No one could over-ride their computer. No one. And on the day of supposed installation i waited at home for them the entire time. Then i called them and was told that installation people work up until 9:00pm to 10:00pm. And when that went by i called and finally found out that they internally had cancelled the work order. Not only was that from their internal errors, but i was stuck at home for half a day waiting for someone to show up, but NEVER was i called! Without any question of collectively wasting more than 24 hours in phone calls and on-line chat session, being redirected repeatedly to people whose English was far from fluent, who would claim they were experts and then repeat the same problems as the agents before, i several times made it to Supervisors. Supervisors were highly reluctant to escalate the problem to a higher tier, but finally one did. And after more problems, another Supervisor saw the escalation and made it a "Priority Escalation". And after more problems, another Supervisor made the "Priority Escalation" and "Urgent Priority Escalation". Mind you, between reaching these Supervisors, i had to go through several Customer Service Reps (CSRs) before getting to them, one of which swore he fixed my problems, insisted he needed my charge card just for a "$1.00" verification charge or some other lame excuse, and then i got a warning from my bank that a pre-authorization was submitted by AT&T for in excess of $600.00. On all of the escalation claims i was told it would take 7 - 10 days for an escalation representative to get back to me. For an escalation, that is obscene. What was more than obscene was after a month i gave up waiting as i never was called and brought in DISH Network. (Having experienced both DirecTV and Spectrum, may i say that DISH is so easily worth the few extra $ it costs, in terms of channels, reliability and technology) At one point from a CSR claiming they had resolved the issue an installer came out. After briefly questioning him and explaining the situation he told me i would never hear back from any supposed escalation team member. To this day, some three to four months later, despite three separate Supervisors telling me how an escalation member was going to call me, never have i had a call from them. As what now amounts to a side-note but under other circumstances would have been a major item, after a month or two of interrupted Internet services and devoting my time to multiple several tech support visits, one smart technician found that the original installer crossed installation of two of the wires to which the inside cord plugs into. The MOST AT&T gave me off for all of the troubles this caused was $15.00. Because they couldn't correct their internal issues and because they didn't bother having anyone from a higher position in management handle this, i could not have the "bundling" discount on my internet services, nor will i ever get back what was more than a collective day of wasted time with what they call "Customer Service". I am very impressed with anyone who learns more than one language. Very impressed. But when it comes to technical support or issue mitigation, without clear native fluency, this is an abomination. TODAY: Because I tried to go to AT&T's website to pay my bill from the link that they provided me with in their email to me and absolutely no where was an option to pay my bill found, i just wasted a little over another hour with folks who tried to speak English as best as they could, asked me the same questions almost every time that i was handed over to yet another employee and got next to no where resolving the web issue. While on hold with them, i also went to a website from the State of Texas and easily paid my highway toll bills, and went to the local Palm Bay, FL, utilities company to pay their bill. I use the most recent release of FireFox, and with their request i cleared all cache and cookies, and as that didn't help, further at their request, i brought up Chrome (the nice girl with the heavy Asian accent called it "Google"). Nope, nothing worked. AT&T advises the problem is on my end, so i guess my computer has somehow learned to hate AT&T also. And so, not wanting to waste any more time, i told the rep to quit trying to resolve why their website isn't working and get me to someone in billing so i can pay my bill. Once more i was transferred, she identified her area as "Billing", and once more i got to answer the same questions and go over that they may use my phone number for blah, blah, blah. Then they asked what they could do for me, so i told the person "I want to pay my bill.". And she then asked me what about that could she help me with. I WANT TO PAY MY BILL. What more can i possibly say??? At this point i gave her a history lesson about all of the foul ups AT&T has made and time and aggravation they have cost me, after which she told me she was one of their senior reps and could take care of everything. Then she told me she would have to charge me a $5.00 convenience fee for taking payment by phone and asked "Is this OK?", I said "No" and once again explained that i have wasted over an hour on the phone with AT&T because i couldn't make the payment on the website because it wasn't working. She then said something close to "I understand. To take your payment on the phone we need to charge a $5.00 convenience fee, is this OK?". She obviously did NOT understand. I demanded a supervisor get involved and waive this, she asked me to hold on. When she came back she said that since i was a loyal customer and that this was her FIRST DAY AT&T would do me the favor of a one time only waive of the fee. Are you kidding me??? Moments ago she told me she was one of their best senior reps and now it is her first day! We don't fluently speak English, we don't fluently understand English, and we at AT&T have no problem l about anything: AT&T Internet. By the way, if i were to write about the entire six month experience, it would take several times this amount of space. If i was not stuck with a 12 (possibly 24) month contract, even though Spectrum still had not properly installed their services in our area, i would get rid of AT&T in a heartbeat. I felt like writing this a couple months ago but as i run my own business, my time is awfully valuable - i have to be available for financial transactions from the Eastern Time Zone through West Coast, i deal with the issues of three daughters in college and another one in high-school and a myriad of other issues; i.e., i am NOT retired and have time to post. But this continued incompetency has driven me beyond my tolerance point, and since it is useless to complain to AT&T and i know of no other place to describe the idiocy and warn other people, i am here. If there are other places i can legitimately copy and paste this to in order to warn others of the horror AT&T is, please advise. No one deserves to be treated like trash, the way AT&T treats people.

[AT&T Fiber] Install today Fiber

I'm not going to knock Comcast, had business internet for $90 a month, over provisioned to 86/18 from 75/17. My area has been a nightmare with keeping a cable "Floating" and around 3 to 6 months have always had an issue of no service or tempered service. Now weather (wind) pixilated TV service and caused excessive modem errors and two cables hang over one another. Simply got tired of that issue and for almost 6 months, not being able to stream from Amazon or Netflix at all, in fact cancelled Netflix over a month ago because of "Peering" issues -No, everything but the modem and router was replaced and it was only a consequence over the last half year. I realize my area must have line issues for Comcast, though, well perhaps. Certainly Peering is the hidden agenda item, nobody is supposed to know about, at least on a business line. Install of AT&T fiber direct to the AT&T modem router and bridged to my router went without issues, however communication really was sub par, apparently the fiber line was broken, line techs worked on it and Brian the install (house side) stated there was an issue at the pole, that was fine, long as I knew. however around 1:30pm the following day, I finally gave up trying to figure out when I would get service, it took over two hours and three reps to get an answer -Essentially there was a broken fiber line & was fixed, but zero communication regards the next step to house install. Andrew showed up 3 days after the install date, after finally getting a time/date to complete the work and he made it painless. 420/360 raw for 300/300 account. I hope AT&T can keep a line to the building hooked! I hope that I don't pay for a streaming service I can't use (only streaming I have not tested), 1080i and 760 is pretty much the same as Comcast for TV, however it's a fraction of the price, went from HD Preferred with Comcast (around 60 channels) for $144.50 + $89.99 [$234.99] for business internet to TV 450 (around 500 channels) and 300/300 fiber for $205 with tax. Downside? Well, perhaps I went from an average 10msec lag to 23msec and don't understand why a fiber line would have significant lag? But, bang for buck can't be argued at all. Uptime is still to be determined. Have to admit I would not have done this without a fiber option, will see over time how this pans out. Cheers -NLR, AR.

I was messing around with moving my ont to a different time a little bit higher in my network enclosure and the fiber loop came undone and now I have a red light on the alarm and no light on PON. So I am getting no light or little light. Can anyone maybe tell me how the ONT loop is supposed to look there’s two circular spin around things. Sorry for my language, I have no idea what those are called :P

IP Passthrough?

Hello Everyone, I was a able to connect my ASUS RT-AC5300 by using the ARRIS BGW210-700 IP Passthrough option. Is this the only way to bridge or use my own router?. I changed the IP of my ASUS from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.0.1. I haven't changed any other settingS on the AT&T router, I do have the firewall turned on the ARRIS, I don't know if I should turn it off or not. I've heard of DMZplus which I can't seem to find, should I also turn off WiFi on the ARRIS? What else I can do to be able to use my ASUS?
