I found out yesterday a friend of mine has an AT&T box in her yard, but her address isn't showing up as an option for internet packages. She lives right next to a subdivision that has Fiber showing available for all the houses. The picture attached shows the box and her house. I've called into AT&T about this and have a ticket, however, it was said it might take a week to get an answer. In the meantime, I would love to get input from anyone on this situation.

So I became an AT&T employee last week (not by choice...). I currently have Comcast Gigabit over coax, using a Netgear Nighthawk X6 they gave me to own with a three year contract at $80/month. With my new employee discount, I'll be payng $40 for AT&T fiber so I figured why not give it a try. It was installed today (took around 7 hours, lots of work outside) and I'm having some issues and one in particular that has me questioning what ISP to stick with. Basically, my previous setup was Comcast modem into Netgear Nighthawk, which throws excellent 2.4 and 5ghz wifi signals. A few smart home hubs directly into the router, and a wired PC off the router. I then used a MoCA adapter in my living room downstairs directly off a second coax line, connected to a gigabit switch, so that all my media console stuff (4K TV, Apple TV, PS4, etc.) was wired in. They hit great wired speeds (200-500 down). The reason for this is that I don't have a CAT cable in the living room, and would have to pay to have one snaked through the wall upstairs to the living room below it, so the MoCA works great. Now I've got this AT&T gateway upstairs where my modem/Nighthawk live, along with one of the mesh network Airlink things AT&T plugged in downstairs. For one, the 5ghz light on the Airlink blinks every 4 seconds. I've tried resyncing it to the gateway and it continues to do this. Secondly, on Wifi, while my Apple TV and PS4 are getting pretty good speeds(although not quite what they were getting off the wired gigabit switch before), my LG OLED 2017 is having a lot of trouble connecting to the new ATT wifi, and when it does it's unreliable. Any ideas as to what the issue here is? Secondly, the tech was incredibly nice and seemed absolutely genuine that with the AT&T gateway and the single airlink, I'd see speeds close to gigabit on my media stuff, and that I wouldn't care or need to go wired anymore with that stuff. This just cannot be true, right? The issue is that if I want to go wired into a gigabit switch downstairs, I'll need to have someone run a CAT cable from the ATT gateway through the wall down to the livingroom. The tech said that was beyond what they'd do and I'd have to hire someone for that. Now, a few questions: Should I keep AT&T or just stay with Comcast, despite the higher monthly fees? Fiber is better overall, right? At least in theory? Should I get the gateway switched to passthrough mode and then just use my Nighthawk X6? How big a lift is this, or is it just a call to AT&T and the gateway becomes a modem? Will I need to get kind of technical with the router settings to get this working properly? As for downstairs, should I just bite the bullet and have someone run CAT cable from the Netgear to a gigabit switch downstairs? This assumes I stick with AT&T and end up using the Nighthawk for Wifi. Anything else I should know, or anything I should request of AT&T before proceeding with any of this? The tech seemed to indicate they'll go a bit beyond when it comes to employees, so I'm hoping maybe I can convince them to do the CAT run for me. It's not something I'm comfortable or able to do on my own. Thank you!

Is the above new firmware? My unit rebooted today and now has it; not sure which version it had previously, only that it seemed odd to get a reboot in the middle of the day (a few hours earlier and it would have occurred in the middle of a video conference for work!).

Massive latency issues to Google in the midwest (DFW area) tonight, can't get Google to route to San Francisco or Los Angeles so I'm stuck with dial up speeds. West coast only servers seem fine right now, connection takes longer to initiate but the latencies seem the same. WAN_DHCP is monitoring 8.8.8.8. Any one else in the DFW area seeing this too? Edit: Spotify is having issues too.

A friend has U-Verse and I've helped them sort it. They got the bill down to $55 a month from the $65 they were paying. $40 25x5M 24 Mos HCM (AT&T Internet for Business 25 they have a home office based business) $10 modem fee $5 home wiring fee $55 total a month (no phone tv or other services on the account) The $40 seems ok and the $5 home wiring ok (though some will say it's not necessary), but the $10 modem rental seems excessive especially since the routers wi-fi is now disabled and external routers (Linksys Velop tri-band mesh). Is it correct that AT&T no longer sells routers and if you but a third party one it won't work with UVerse? And is there a non wi-fi Uverse modem rental that would save a few dollars in rental fee since we don't use its wi-fi. For comparison $52.99 with Cox I get 50/ 5 Mbps Thanks!

FIBER IS COMMING?!?!

Our cable from the PED currently runs under a deck, then alongside the house to the NID. We are replacing the deck with a concrete patio. I am going to have conduit buried under the patio to run the cable from the PED through. At some point the cable will have to be disconnected to complete the project. Should I schedule a tech to come disconnect the cable and the schedule again to run a new cable through the conduit? Or just let the construction guys cut the cable and schedule a repair? What diameter conduit do I need? If I use option one, how do I tell the not so bright phone people what I need? Any other input is appreciated.

After paying Xfinity high monthly charges for a year I decided to switch to AT&T TV/internet when I learned fiber was now in my hood. I chose the U200 with 50Mbps internet. The install went without a hitch until the tech told me there was a bad pair outside and I would only get 25Mbps until another tech could fix it later that day. (The fiber is not all the way to my block yet) I followed up with a chat session with an AT&T rep online the next day and found out this was all a lie. First of all someone changed my account settings from 50Mbps to 25Mbps and then I learned that I must schedule ANOTHER tech out next weekend (I must be at home) in order to get the original 50Mbps. I was told a different modem/router was needed to be installed in order to get the faster speeds. (probably another lie) So far not impressed with AT&T Fiber/Uverse. Xfinity might have cost more but the service was much better. I guess you get what you pay for.

AT&T "Business Fiber" recently became available at one of my clients' locations. I have an option for Business Fiber 100 for $100/month or Business Fiber 100s (Symmetrical) for $300/month. I know what the speeds are on the symmetrical service ;) but the AT&T website doesn't mention at all what the upload speed is for Business Fiber 100. Does anyone here have the 100 service? If so, what's the upload speed??

After FPL (my power company) was left with egg on its face after Hurricane Wilma and other storms around that time knocked out power on 90% of their footprint, they decided to upgrade the infrastructure(or perhaps they were forced to, I don't remember). This includes replacing (almost) every pole with bigger concrete ones, and if the existing ones are deemed too far apart, they put another pole in-between. 3 years ago or so they did my neighborhood. A few months after that, Comcast moved most of their plant to the new poles. AT&T still has yet to do anything with their plant. They're gumming the works because they're holding up the old poles from being removed. When will AT&T start migrating their plant to the new poles? Are they waiting for all of FPL's part of the project (on the whole footprint) to be finished before they start? Is there only one plant migration crew for the whole footprint? :mad:

I currently have the BGW210-700, but it looks as though my old 3600HGV from 2012 can still function as a backup. Any issues with that? I unboxed the 3600 and plugged it in to AT&T. It started up fine, showing the old software from 2012. It rebooted after a few minutes and came back up showing the newer software 6.11.1.29-plus.tm. Internet worked fine with it, except I didn't bother adjusting my router's IPv6 settings to match 6rd stuff on the 3600. Just out of curiosity, what's the architecture issue with these huge VDSL modems, making them 3x the size of my DOCSIS 3 cable modem?

Has anyone had any luck with IPv6 delegation? I have just gotten 32 IPv4 addresses and have not found IPv6 to be nearly as easy on ATT fiber. Using my mikrotik router board i can DHCPv6-client request and ip and delegated prefix, but once the LAN block is advertised it seems to work. As soon as i statically assign one of the LAN addresses, the home cannot utilize IPv6 connectivity. Anyone have any recommendations or luck using the delegation and statically assigning addresses?

Call Protect is a great system AT&T implemented for voip to combat spam callers, but it’s call blocking is limited compared to it’s Hiya counterpart for smartphones. It only blocks calls flagged as fraud, but not other spam callers and telemarketers. It also doesn’t do anything to combat spoofed numbers, which Hiya does. Even Nomorobo blocks spam callers that aren’t blocked by Call Protect, the only problem with nomorobo is that it lets calls go through with a brief ring before it blocks it.

My connection has been dropping out for 5-10 seconds several times an hour for about 3 weeks. I'm not getting any help via phone support. I have stripped my home network down to a bare minimum for troubleshooting purposes. My gateway, a 5031NV is near the service entry on a new-ish pair. No warnings on any of the gateway's customer diagnostics. I have factory-reset the gateway and only have one computer plugged in via hardwire ethernet. I have left that computer pinging the second hop, the first ATT node outside my house. I can't discern a pattern, but my pings have been failing several times an hour. A screen shot of a typical ping event is attached. I bought a second 5031NV on eBay for troubleshooting. Same problem. I've sat on the phone with support several times. Most recently, a US tech swore that changing my wifi channel, WPA mode and disabling ipv6 would fix this, even though my problem started when I was still using an Edgerouter and Unifi AP with the 5031nv wifi disabled.

Paramount (formerly SpikeTV) is supposed to be both in DTVn and like U200 and higher (I have U450) and neither my brother who has DTVn or I with U-Verse can log into Paramount using ATT credentials. I have no problem with the channel live on the STB but Paramount claims that it is not in my package after the ATT referral. There are a few threads but no answers on the AT&T website about what the problem might be. EDIT - may be a wider Paramount problem as my parents' Cox CATV credentials don't work either. EDIT 2 - Well definitely Paramount as the iOS app works with AT&T credentials. I had tried previously on a laptop to watch the first episode of Yellowstone before the new ep tomorrow that I will grab with the DVR (since Spike/Paramount is not avail VOD)

I've noticed my pings have gone up in everything. Overwatch and other gaming too It appears to be an issue between AT&T and level3... Can anyone escalate to the ATT NOC? I've recently gotten fiber installed and I've been having a few issues. I'm using an AirTies unit and I have a computer connected to it via ethernet. I get good speed from it (about 300 mps down and up) but we have been told by our IP telephone tech support that they are seeing unusual variation in ping times. I was not involved in speaking with this tech so I don't know what they did. I just ran another one and I'm seeing times of over 1 second in several cases. Is this an issue with the AirTies unit maybe? I haven't had a chance to try it with a unit directly connected to the gateway WiFi but I will do that later.
