Upload speed much higher than download

I've been noticing on speed tests that people are getting 900 plus up and down where I'm getting like 500 down and 900 up. I've tried it on a couple different computers and getting the same thing, has anyone experienced this and knows a solution. I'm on a 2010 MacBook pro and I'm using hard wired ethernet. I've also tested it on a new Lenovo thinkpad and getting similar results.

AT&T Direct-TV, UVERSE or Cable One?

My sister is moving to Anniston Alabama. She has three choices of internet/TV. 1. DirectTV with dish on the roof, "coax" internet. 24 month contract required. 2. U-VERSE at 50Mbps (for real?), with TV, possibly without contract at higher cost. 3. Cable One (highest priced plan) DirectTV is cheapest but the Dish will look really ugly on the front of the roof facing South. Also, this is a pretty rainy area so I'm worried about reception, especially with that 24 month contract. I hate for her to be stuck with bad service for two years. So UVERSE sounds good good but my daughter down the block can only get 4.5Mbps from AT&T DSL. It's hard to believe they really get 50Mbps. My neighbor has U-VERSE (I have WOW) and he says it's great, but that's here in Chicagoland. Alabama might be different. I don't know anything about Cable One. My sister is 75 and not interested in streaming at all, although my daughter says my grandson can set it up for her. All three come with phone, but I'm thinking a flip phone cell phone beats the pants off internet phone. That's what I switched to a few years back when WOW insisted I had to rent an ancient TM402 modem to get phone. I'm especially interested in remarks from forum members in Calhoun County.

Cut Fiber

So yesterday my neighbor decided to do some yard work, unlucky for us he managed to cut the main fiber line for the neighborhood. It’s been about 24 hours now and the splicing trailers are still out but no service yet. Just out of curiosity, what is my neighbor on the hook for? Trucks have been here since 6pm last night, countless workers everywhere, 200 homes offline. I have a feeling that’s going to be a massive headache. Anyone ever dealt with this before?

Question about MTU with native ipv6

Edit: After doing some more resarch I think this is normal. If I understand correctly with ipv6 the MTU adjusts automatically using "Path MTU Discovery". Which I'm assuming is why it changed back by its self when I tried to force it to 1500. So I guess its working as it should since like I said I have no ipv6 issues at all. I would just delete this thread but unless I'm missing it I don't see a way to. Still wouldn't mind getting info from someone that knows how it works lol. Hey guys. I just noticed that the MTU setting on my PC for ipv6 is 1472, and 1500 for ipv4. Is this ok/normal? I remember ipv6rd using 1472, but I've had dual stack native ipv6 for well over a month now. I don't have or notice any issues. IPV6 works perfectly fine I just don't know if this is normal or not or if it even matters. I did try changing it to 1500 using this command in the command prompt netsh interface ipv6 set subinterface "Ethernet" mtu=1500 store=persistent And it did change to 1500, but a few mins later when I checked it again it was back to 1472. Just curious what you guys think.

AT&T Fiber now available on Westside of Indianapolis

In early September 2017 AT&T installed PFPs at several existing VRADs/connection boxes along and near High School Rd,, on the westside of Indianapolis in Speedway. This was followed by a fiber line install about a month later on the poles in the utility easement behind our house. Then as of yesterday (November 9) the AT&T website says I have 100 MB and 1 GIG fiber Internet available.

Complicated issue that raises ping when playing games

Hello, not sure if this is the right place to ask for advice, but I have a rather bizarre issue. The way my internet routes to certain games creates a big difference in ping. I'm not too keen on the subject but from my conversations with support technicians of two different games I have increased ping on, both stated that the issue were coming from at&t. Here is what one of them sent me(https://imgur.com/a/ez64o). If you guys want the winMTR and the tracert tests I ran for that conversation I will be happy to provide it. This issue didn't always happen, For one game (overwatch) I had 35-45 ping which in the past 2 months has seen a sudden and drastic increase to 75-85 ping. From what I gathered I was connecting to the west coast servers due to incorrect pathing on at&t's part. On a different game(League Of Legends) I saw a massive ping change from 10 ping (the servers are in the same city I live by!) to a whopping 50 ping. This issue has been active since around April.

Fiber - Upload faster than download?

I recently had ATT Fiber installed with the 1000/1000 package. Testing hardwired into the 5268AC gateway, I typically hit ~800 Mb/s down and 940 Mb/s up testing against ATT's speedtest and speedtest.net against servers in my city. I've tried multiple computers, tried moving the gateway directly to the ONT to eliminate any cabling issues, different patch cables, etc. Is it just luck of the draw that I"m maxing out on upload but not download, or are there configuration tweaks I should consider? FWIW - It feels funny to question why my 800Mb+ connection isn't fast enough...

Atrocious down speeds, mediocre up speeds with 1Gb fiber

We have been subscribers for most of the last year and the last few days I noticed streaming was choppy. I have already contacted support and a tech is scheduled for Monday. The up speeds I get in other tests are as high as 900 Mbps, so not sure why the dslreports one is so much lower.

dslreports.com speedtest vs fast.com

I'm currently getting 65mb/s down from dslreports.com speedtest, but only 4mb/s down from fast.com. Regular browsing to sites like imgur is noticeably slow, like the fast.com results are the accurate results. I feel like dslreports.com is duping me. My service plan is currently 75/20. Anyone have any similar experiences?

Descending Into Installation Nightmare?

Hello, all. I also already shared this with @ATTCares, but wanted to share with the group to see what the consensus is. I had an installation for 11/10, took the day off for it, and was told one of the two pair for my pair bonded Internet 25 and TV service did not make it all the way to the correct cross connect box and/or VRAD. Can the techs not pick another available pair? My experience with other LECs is that they'll run the terminal until they find a good pair, that goes where it needs to go, rather than wait for pair remediation. The statement wasn't that "there are no available facilities", but that the pair "I was told to use" does not reach the location where it needs to go. Additionally, if the issue is not with the F2 pairs, but the F1 not going to the VRAD, why not swap pairs at the cross-connect to pick one that goes to the VRAD instead of the RT/SLC? I get it: AT&T likes clean facilities, and may not want techs accidentally stealing in-service facilities. It'd be ideal if they could exercise some judgement where facilities may exist, and coordinate with the CO on making adjustments to accomodate if needed. What's the consensus on this type of thing? Ports are available in the VRAD, but an assigned copper pair (the 2nd pair of the bond) is simply going elsewhere.

The last time I had ATT two years ago, they didn't send any. I'm wondering if that's still the case.

Considering moving to U-Verse

Its been well over 9 years since I last tried U-Verse TV, it was a mess, pixilation, sports were impossible to watch due to pixilation, I think we have come long ways. The last 10 years I've been with DirecTV but their bills started mounting up for the Xtra Package and they did not offer me any discounts to stay, paid my bills on time, never missed a payment, but I guess that's how business works, I have AT&T Wireless and even with the $25 discount the bill looked atrocious, north of $120+. I recently cancelled DirecTV Satellite (about 4 days ago) and switched to DirecTV Now, got the Apple TV 4K HDR for the main downstairs TV, but the DirecTV Now lacks a lot and of course NO DVR...its a huge drawback for me. I like the Apple TV and how the other apps work, but the DirecTV Now app is trash and the apple remote is not the best to navigation through such menu/guide...So now it brings me to U-Verse. I noticed they offer the U300 for $85 a month for a year, plus I'd be eligible for $15 video credit and free HBO, so that would bring the cost to $70. I think that is a fair pricing. Plus to make the deal better they are offering $100 rewards card. Should I jump on this?

Some pages in 5268AC settings take very long time to load

Switched to AT&T less than a week ago and got a 5268ac RG. Set the RG to DMZ+ mode, turned off Wi-Fi and homePNA. I could see my router in DMZ under Firewall Status page and the WAN port in the router is showing the public IP. Performed speed test a few times at different sites, all showing the subscribed speed (50/10). So the RG seems to be functioning normally and I don't see any lags connecting to internet. However, when I tried to look around for some detailed info about the 5268ac, I noticed some pages take a good 10 minutes or so to load and others will take just a few seconds. The slow loading pages include Wi-Fi, DHCP under LAN, Applications, Pinholes and DMZ under Firewall, and maybe others. The Wi-Fi and DMZ pages loaded normally when I did the initial set up. Tried both Chrome and Firefox to access the RG with same results. Restarted both my router and 5268ac but didn't change anything. The RG has the 10.5.6.529489 firmware. Anyone else has the same issue?

Script to check ATT Fiber coverage

I got the inspiration from the Century Link forum for mapping availability of ATT Fiber in a particular area. The idea is to grab a box on google maps using two addresses (NE and SW) then get a list of addresses and pass that on to the ATT Fiber availability webpage. Well I spent a day learning Python and another porting the code to AT&T and here is result https://www.easymapmaker.com/map/13bc08adc1c47818afd6437933d7ce4d Please see my github page here for the scripts https://github.com/enkur/ATT-Fiber-Check Next task would be to do something like this https://github.com/mtdoyle/CLSpeedPhantomJS/blob/master/README.md This can cull through large addresses and create a super detailed plots like this https://www.easymapmaker.com/map/cl_speed_1-15-2015
