Anyone else dissatisfied with Uverse DVR?

AT&T is now offering fiber to my house, so naturally I signed up. I switched from Xfinity (Comcast) cable internet and Dish TV service. I have no problems and no complaints with the internet service. But the TV is a different matter. I have had Dish for the past 2 years, and before that DirecTV for several years, so that is what I am comparing to here. The guide on Uverse is decent, and for the most part the TV picture is acceptable. There are glitches now and then, but that was true with Dish and DirecTV as well. I do get loud pops, fairly often, when I switch channels. I run the output of the Uverse tuner into an Onkyo receiver via HDMI cable, and from the Onkyo to the TV via another HDMI cable. I have good speakers, expensive Paradigm speakers, and I really don’t like those pops. I have had the service for about 3 weeks now, and last night I set out to clean up some already watched recordings on the DVR. After doing 3 deletes (ERASE), the DVR froze up and became unresponsive. I left it alone for about 2 minutes, and it was still unresponsive. I left and came back an hour later and it was working again. Also on the DVR there is a “skip forward” to get through the commercial breaks. This does not work nearly as well as on the Dish DVR. It is jerky, takes too long to skip forward, and I can’t seem to “stack” the jumps. On the Dish DVR, I could hit the skip forward button 4 times in a row, and about 2 or 3 seconds later I was 120 seconds ahead in the program I was watching. That doesn’t work on the Uverse DVR, it takes a good 3 or 4 seconds to process one skip forward, and if I hit the button multiple times I only get one skip forward (approximately 30 seconds).

Thinking of switching to ATT Select. 89.99 promo. When I just through all the hoops, online, it seems like they hide how much extra costs are. I want to know what the final bill would be. I'd also like to know the "normal" price of the 50Mg. pkg. they only show the promo. Since I'd be pay that after the first year. Can anyone help on this? Maybe a link if anyone has it? Thanks Tim

18 gauge "E wire" vs 24 gauge for long runs?

My home is located about 8,000' from the IPDSLAM. About 1,350' of that is from the pedestal to my home. (So 6,650 from IPDSLAM to pedestal then 1,350' from pedestal to the home.) A technician from the engineering department mentioned I may get better connection if they replaced the 24 gauge with the heavier 18 gauge "E wire". He said the E wire wasn't twisted as well as the 24 gauge but he thought it would do better in this scenario. Anyone have any similar cases that this had helped? My signal noise margin is normally 7 or higher downstream but I have seen it dip into the 4's. CRC errors aren't uncommon. I've had over 1,000 in the last day but none in the last 15 minutes. Ping times are normally ok but have on occasion been 300+ms. Overall I'm happy since the last tech visit which found multiple taps on my 2nd bonded line. And I'm and ecstatic that I'm able to achieve 25Mb via bonding. Just curious if this that he's suggesting may make a difference in stability. Thanks!

Hello All! I have been browsing the forums for a long time when I was helping my parents with their U-verse. I just pulled the trigger at my new home to switch to At&t because of the new profiles that were released. I was able to get the Internet 25 (25/5). [att=1] I have attached my line stats. Wanted to get some opinions of my connection and to see if you guys think this could get pushed higher. They say I am about 3100ft. [att=1]

Gateway reboots nightly

I've been having an issue for the past few weeks which is causing my gateway to reboot daily. It has typically been happening at 2-3 A.M. I had a 5268AC but they sent me an NVG599 today and it's the first day and it's already happened again. I'm not sure what could be causing this. The line itself seems ok and my POTS line is static free. Any ideas? I'm reluctant to call for a tech because I'm worried they will assume it's my profile and drop me down. I've had a 90Meg profile for 2 years without issue.

So, somebody has decided to run about two miles worth of fibre here in town. I've seen yellow and orange flags everywhere -- these I know are to mark pre-existing utilities. I'm on a walk right now, and I found these things owned by AT&T about 150 ft. from a VRAD. What are they?

Script to check ATT Fiber coverage

I got the inspiration from the Century Link forum for mapping availability of ATT Fiber in a particular area. The idea is to grab a box on google maps using two addresses (NE and SW) then get a list of addresses and pass that on to the ATT Fiber availability webpage. Well I spent a day learning Python and another porting the code to AT&T and here is result https://www.easymapmaker.com/map/13bc08adc1c47818afd6437933d7ce4d Please see my github page here for the scripts https://github.com/enkur/ATT-Fiber-Check Next task would be to do something like this https://github.com/mtdoyle/CLSpeedPhantomJS/blob/master/README.md This can cull through large addresses and create a super detailed plots like this https://www.easymapmaker.com/map/cl_speed_1-15-2015

192.168.1.254 - blocked?

Just recently, I can no longer use 192.168.1.254 to view my network status (it says "web page not found", and I've tried it on three different browsers). This is only on my desktop . . . tablet & iPhone both work for this. *** PROBABLE CAUSE *** : I had installed Kaspersky internet security. I've tried to remove it, but it appears there are still some files that I can't remove. SEE ATTACHED .PDF REPORT FROM NETWORK DIAGNOSIS I NEED ADVICE / DIRECTIONS ON HOW TO REMOVE THE REMNANTS OF KASPERSKY INTERNET SECURITY - When I run network diagnosis, - Windows Defender can't be turned on . . . says it's "Handled by another AV program" - Running Windows 10 - Internet connection works fine . . . just can't view 192.168.1.254 I have: - Rebooted the router (both with reset button held for 10 sec, and pulling power). I doubt that's it since other devices can connect. - Replaced the router (had Uverse send a new one) - Tried both http://192.168.1.254 and https://192.168.1.254 - Tried this on Google, Chrome, and Firefox (so, the problem isn't browser specific) THANK YOU ! ! ! ! (be gentle . . . I'm not an IT expert :-0 Thanks to anyone that can solve this!

Contemplating getting AT&T Internet .. a little bit confused?

I've always been with COX since moving to Irvine, CA, but my new condo in Aliso Viejo, CA has AT&T Internet 50. Each room is already configured with cable in the wall, but I am intrigued about Fiber. With AT&T's multiple name changes and different type of technology, I am confused & hopefully someone here can help answer my questions. 1. AT&T Internet is Fiber right? It used to be U-Verse? They say "up to 50 Mbps" which makes me think it's like DSL. Is 50 Mbps not always guaranteed? May drop down due to other people using it? Cable I'm not really concerned about dropped speed. 2. What is the upload speed of AT&T Internet 50? All I see is download. Is it symmetrical, or am I looking at something like 50/5? 3. Where can I read about the specs of this AT&T Wi-Fi Gateway (like manufacturer & model)? I assume it has 802.11-AC? Customize able changing DNS settings and QOS? 4. Are there any monthly equipment charges? This is where COX gets you, but I bought my own cable mode. 5. How's installation like for AT&T Internet coming into the home? Do they drag a wire into the home like cable? Does it use a phone jack or RJ-45? 6. The condo was built in 1980. What should I be worried about technically with the wiring that could make AT&T Internet work or not work as good as it should?

Static IP - Getting Conflicting Information

Greetings All, I am in the process of getting Gigabit U-Verse Internet installed and have a 5268AC AT&T Provided gateway + ONT. I of course being a technical individual asked for bridge mode and they looked at me like I had lost my mind. I did some digging around on this forum and see others have jury rigged it with Ubiquity EdgeMAX gear, but I also see mention of using a Static IP on a secondary interface on the gateway. While I certainly can take on the router config option to make this work, if there is a simple way to get a static ip and solve the issue at the same time that would be even more ideal in case I am not home to troubleshoot the issue. I spoke again to AT&T and asked several people about a Static IP, and eventually got transferred to the ConnectTech department where I was told it was possible but I would have to use their paid support option to setup getting a Static IP. This honestly did not feel right. For those of you who do have Static IP addresses, who did you have to speak to, how much did they cost, and what options did they give you? Any thoughts or additional information would be greatly appreciated.

Ethernet Ports

I live in an apartment complex in Dallas that has AT&T Fiber. I have Ethernet ports all around my apartment but apparently they are not connected in the main box. I only have one Ethernet outlet in which I can use AT&T Fiber. Anyone have any recommendations about who I should call? Any previous experiences? AT&T says they will charge like $ 50 per Ethernet outlet to have them all wired in the main box which sounds retarded. Leasing office didn't have a lot of input either.

Will getting AT&T fiber require digging up my yard?

Looking to switch, as I'm a current Comcast internet customer who has had around 30 outages in 2017... but I am in a part of Nashville that is eligible for ATT fiber. This is a new home (constructed 2014) and my cable runs through a buried conduit from the pole to a box on the side of the house. My question is can they run the fiber through that conduit my cable is using now, or are they going to have to dig their own trench through the yard? I have a few thousand dollars invested in landscaping and sod that had to be installed after the last such project and am not at all interested in doing it again. Right now this is the only thing keeping me from switching. Anyone know? I tried to search the forum for a similar question but all I find is people complaining about ATT trenching through their yard as part of laying the neighborhood network. Thanks!

Maybe the at&t cabinet a block from my house hanging open has something to do with my service outage.

Install on Friday, how is wiring done?

I'm getting 100/20 VDSL2 installed on Friday (order is written for 50/10 but I'm having it bumped to 100/20), and I was curious how AT&T is doing their wiring as it's been a few years since I had UV. The connection from the NID to the RG - is that still CAT5 with RJ11 connectors, or do they now run CAT5 with an RJ45 connector to the RG? Will they run the CAT5 directly into the RG, or will it terminate into a wall jack, and then a cable is ran from the wall jack into the RG?

toast.net (AT&T reseller) install held up by AT&T

Chicken and egg problem here. I hope an AT&T installer can help here? Currently an AT&T internet only customer, 45Mb, dropped U-verse TV two years ago. I found through Reddit/r/cordcutters that Toast.net resells AT&T for a few bucks cheaper per month and the big win for me, no data cap. Toast.net tells me AT&T won't schedule a Toast.net install until I cancel first, potentially leaving me without service for an unknown period of time up to a week or more. The reason has something to do with "not enough pairs" which is a bit difficult to grasp if they're using the same wires to my home. Does AT&T move my homes wires to another switch port at the neighborhood central box?

Since I had my 6mbit uverse installed back in 2015, I've always gotten random disconnects at least once every other day or so. It really seems to follow with temperature changes outside, disconnects around lunch time and then sometimes again in the evening.. I just had a tech out here to investigate but he only said it was because my length was at 7500ft. He did mention I might be able to get a bonded pair installed, and he left with with a phone number of what he described as an "awesome sales guy". So before I call this guy I am wondering what to ask in order to get the best results. The tech just told me to ask for two 3mbit lines and that would put me back at my same speed but would be more reliable. I've posted stats from my modem that I chart. Looking at my sn down ratio of 7 I'd say 6mbit is all I am going to get. Yet there are the random times where I get 10 as the sn ratio. Another strange thing is that the cabinet I get service from also has a vrad in it for the neighborhoods all around me. Would vdsl do me any better? When I do service checks of addresses around me, most only show 6mbit as the max, yet there are a few scattered here and there that show up to 18mbit including my neighbor which is feed by the same telephone pole as me. I don't really get it. oh and on my modem error chart, ignore the crc spike, that was from a heavy thunderstorm.
