Hi all, A friend of mine just had Gigapower installed at his residence in San Jose. During the installation appointment, the techs mentioned that AT&T's goal is to roll out Gigapower within the entire Bay Area by the end of 2017. Wondering how true that is? I live in a subdivision that was built in 2002 and right across from me is a brand new subdivision which is gigapower wired and yet mine is not :( Hoping they'd fix that soon as I would like some sweet gigabit juice as opposed to being stuck with Comcast :\ Thanks!

With the recent new tier upgrade, my location now qualifies for a free self-install i.e. mail a modem. I've never had uverse ever so I thought that the $99 pro install fee was unavoidable for initial install. Did something change or did they goof and I will end up having to have a tech come anyway? Internet 25 is max I can get.

Hello all, I have a quick question regarding gateways for the new internet 50 (50/10) profile. I currently have Cox and am paying $55/mo for 50/5mbps and would like to switch to the Internet 50 plan for $40/mo to save some money. I spoke with "Hunter" on the web chat and he explicitly stated that I would be receiving the NVG589 gateway which doesn't have 802.11ac or even 5ghz and that is completely unacceptable for 2017. I asked about the NVG599 and PACE 5268AC gateways but he was pretty adamant that those are for AT&T fiber only (which I think is BS). Before I pull the trigger (and pay the $99 install fee - $50 visa card), I was wondering if I would be able to get any of the AC gateways so I can sell my cable modem and router to recoup the install costs. Otherwise, I'd just stick with what I have and not deal with the headache of switching gateways out.

Well, i just saw a contractor crew out on the pole in my back yard today. I talked to them for a few minutes and was shocked when they told me everyone complaining about them installing fiber because the crews have to be in our yards. I told them I was happy as hell to get rid of Comcast and wow. they said it would take 3 weeks to finish my whole sub then att need to come out and splice and do their thing I wonder how long before I get the wonderful door hanger :D Saint Clair Shores MI

For everyone that has Internet 75. Do you hit 75 megabits on your speedtests on a regular basis? The reason I ask is because I have yet to hit 70 on a speedtest wired or wireless using multiple servers and devices. The highest I've gotten is just over 69 on wireless using an iPhone 7 plus. Wired the highest I've seen is 66. Most of the time it's between 50-56 range. Upload hits 20.79 on just about every test I do. When I was on the power 45 plan I hit 45-50 every test, unless a server was messed up or I was downloading something. I'm going to run my Asus router behind the 5268ac in DMZ + mode. After doing this do I need to change any Firewall rules on the 5268ac inside the advanced menu? or do I just leave as is?

AT&T tech showed up around 9:30. Looked at the equipment and said that he'd have to change it out. Took him a couple of hours. The wall jack for the router wasn't where it needed to be. It was in a different area (secondary bedroom). I needed two more wire runs. It's $75 for each wall drop after the free one where you want the router. That means that each extra wire run costs $150 (two walls to fish: one where you want the jack, one down the wall to the router.) Initial speed test directly plugged into the router using an older work laptop with a good amount of administrative garbage installed. Download should be better once I test with my PC. [att=1]

I've been having an issue for the past few weeks which is causing my gateway to reboot daily. It has typically been happening at 2-3 A.M. I had a 5268AC but they sent me an NVG599 today and it's the first day and it's already happened again. I'm not sure what could be causing this. The line itself seems ok and my POTS line is static free. Any ideas? I'm reluctant to call for a tech because I'm worried they will assume it's my profile and drop me down. I've had a 90Meg profile for 2 years without issue.

Much to my surprise, AT&T is in the process of deploying fiber in my neighborhood in Durham, NC which has so far been the exclusive domain of Frontier and TWC/Charter. I assume this is because they feared Google beating them to the punch (which now seems to be a non-starter since GF hasn't broken ground here and probably never will). I'm wondering how common completely new deployments are for AT&T. We've never had any kind of FTTH or FTTP in this neighborhood. This isn't greenfield or brownfield, so what is it? Is there a term for a new deployment in an old, built up neighborhood? Additionally, does anyone else have any experience in these new install areas? How long did it take from the time the contractors/subs dug to lay the fiber and getting your address lit for fiber? Will AT&T balk at complicated installs (such as digging beside or under a long driveway to lay fiber)? I've read AT&T is pushing to move the fiber demarc inside since future RGs will integrate PON ports instead of just Ethernet. I don't really have a good place to install a NID/ONT indoors. Will that likely complicate my install? Thanks!

Since my 5268AC was installed four days ago, it has been issuing 5 minute DHCP leases to the router using its DMZ+ mode. I also see [Node 99.34.xxx.yyy is up] messages in the 5268AC event log every 5 minutes. And I also see the paired messages shown below in the 5268AC firewall log every 5 minutes: Remove node 1 from DMZ+ Put node 1 into DMZ+ mode Is this normal behavior for the 5268AC using DMZ+ mode (or for AT&T VDSL2 circuits)? I have not noticed any problems, but a 5 minute DHCP lease time seems a bit short for what I would consider normal. I know that Comcast starts issuing such short DHCP lease times for a few days prior to taking the CMTS down for scheduled maintenance. Does AT&T do the same thing before taking the VRAD offline for scheduled maintenance?

And told me he hooked me up from 75Mbps to 100mbps/20mbps since it was the same price saying it will be Monday before he sends the order to AT&T could I call customer service and go ahead and make them provision my modem? Its already showing under my account as pending Edit: he said I won't need a actual tech Visit since I am already on Bonded pair he did a test and I could get up to 200mbps down 43mbps up cause I am 350ft from the DSLAM

I know there was something similar in a thread 8 years ago. but I just plugged in a Android box and it works. Speed test show it's moving at 35Megs(I have 75 Meg service). now i don't have to worry about wifi issues or running a 100' cat to the basement box.

DSLR Hivemind, Install is happening now and I have a crew at the house running cat6a everywhere and adding some AP Pros. Are there any instructions for how to set this thing up to use another router? Or is that even needed? I'm only going to need some port forwarding for torrents and Plex, nothing extraordinary. Thanks all

I was checking the AT&T site to see what kind of speeds I could get, as a possible alternative to Charter Spectrum (which has been raising prices while not increasing speeds). Putting in my building and apt number, it only shows 25 mbps available, so I started putting in other addresses in the same complex out of curiosity.. I tried other units in the same building, and found that some show 50 mbps available, while others just show 25 like mine.. which doesn't make any sense to me. Wouldn't the loop length be pretty much the same for all of them? I also tried other buildings in the same complex, and found that some building/unit combinations show speeds of 75 or even 100 available! It makes quite a difference since 100 would compete with Charter's speeds, while 25 would be a huge downgrade.. What would cause such big differences in the same complex? Is there a better way of getting a firm answer on what speed is available (other than having a tech come out and check)? Side question.. is there any way to know what kind of technology AT&T is using in my area? ADSL, VDSL, VDSL2? Probably not GPON I'd assume.

Hi Everyone, Does ATT not install boxes to the outside of the house anymore. I have attached a picture of my moms install and I know 2 other locations that were done like this. Old DSL box in the picture, Bonded Pair box, and then Fiber just coming up the wall, drilled into the brick and run inside the house to bed room/office.

I recently switched, last November, to U-Verse TV from Xfinity. All I can say is that I am extremely displeased with the lies told to me by the sales rep at the retail store where I signed up. I asked specifically if I would get the same channels as the Xfinity app while on the go and was told it was pretty much the same thing. Wow, is that ever an understatement. I use to be able to catch the Cubs games in my area all the time using a web browser and the Xfinity TV website, Comcast Sports Net blacks out the Cubs on U-Verse's TV portal. Also, many of the channels are not even available using the U-Verse app. Where is ESPN? If you are looking for a TV Everywhere provider I suggest looking elsewhere. U-Verse is substandard, to say the least!

I have a pfSense router running at the moment with cable service. I built it for the curiosity and because I had the parts already here at the house. Honestly I don't do anything with it that my Airport router would not have done, I just wanted to learn more about the router/firewall. My other thought was to be prepared for Gigapower once it's available here in case I did need it for something. I have seen several times here in reading to use the provided GW as my router unless I have good reason to use something else. It looks like the provided router is good enough unless you need something it cannot do. Would you guys say this is recommended or would you say to use my own and if so, why. If I can use the provided hardware (have to have it in line either way) then I can simplify the install making it easier overall to maintain. I have had zero issues with my own router, just thinking long term what would work for me since my needs are simple.
