We switched from POTS and Business U-Verse internet to Spectrum because they are way cheaper and they have been great. Well, today a person from the "win-back" department called and said he could offer me a dedicated 18meg fiber line along with 4 phone lines for $147.50. When I told him that doesn't sound right, he said that their 18meg dedicated fiber line is 18meg per computer. I told him I had 100mbps from Spectrum, but he said their dedicated line does not slow down the other computers in my office if 1 or 2 are downloading big files. I just laughed and hung up. Come on ATT.

Is ATT Bandwidth Throttling
I was streaming a basketball game and got a pop up on my monitor saying after 50GB ATT will slow down my speed. Where is this "1 TB" I am supposed to have? ( my usage this bill period is 54GB)

This might be bad news ...
Looks like someone took out the local FTTC cabinet.... actually not sure how it happened knowing the area. anyway, is there any chance they'd take the chance to do Gigapower? (there is gigapower in other areas of the village)

Speed upgrade self install.
I currently have uverse internet only. It is listed as Internet18. It was installed by a tech with the 2wire gateway years ago. I want to upgrade and there is a self install option for the Internet 24 but not for 45 or 75. What is the reason for this? Could I do the self install for 24 with the new gateway then call and upgrade to 45?

Ordering 1GB Fiber service - Anything I should ask?
Hi folks,
I am going to order my gigapower service later today and wasn't sure if I should be requesting any specific equipment. I know when i did FIOS years ago they had some bad routers and some good, so I was sure to ask for a specific one. Anything i should be asking for before ordering?
Thanks!

AT&T using Chat Bots for Support Chat?
I am not happy about AT&T and never have. I have to get this off of my chest. I just chatted with a chat bot on AT&T's chat. It used to be a real person. It's not anymore. I asked the chat bot if I could go to interleaved from fast path and it said do you want to downgrade your internet? Immediately! That's the same thing that was said in the community forums and the AT&T Techs. Every time I replied it said a bunch of nonsense etc. after I said No. I am not going to downgrade my internet period. They're cheap and don't want to fix it and rather have the money. They can't even hire real chat agents!

Static IP's
I decided to order static IP's. I recently built a brand new Kaby Lake PC, and re-purposed all of the old hardware I had into a new cheap case and built a ESXi VMWare server out of it with 32 GB of RAM. I am already running 6 VM's on it, and I am starting to have fun with hosting all sorts of fun things, so I opted for a static IP address setup....
The installer is coming next friday to "set it up". I realize it technically can be done without a tech, but they insisted... not a problem, at least they can come and ensure it is done right, and I picked that Friday because I have a glazier installing a new glass door in our bathroom, so two birds, one stone, etc.
I have a few questions however.... I have several domains. Obviously I can point them towards my IP addresses and whatnot, but do they also do reverse DNS lookup? Is that something I need to call about when I have a need for it, or is that something that they won't even consider for home/residential installs.
I don't THINK I am going to need it, but I was toying with the idea of running a MS Exchange server (I have MSDN), and if you do it right the IP the Exchange server is going to be on needs to be resolvable to your domain, as many spam/bot checkers on company's mailservers are checking for that. I could always forward to the smtp of my current hoster, so it can be figured out either way....
Currently I have a Pace gateway and a PFSense firewall. That isn't going to go away, but I am assuming I need to replace the DMZPlus mode I have on the one IP I got to some form of static routing. Does anyone have any guides as to how to set it up on firewalls? I can obviously set specific rules, e.g. 443 on public ip1 goes to internal ip1, and 443 on public ip2 goes to internal ip2, etc.... PFSense has all that built in.
I couldn't find any good articles (my google-fu is failing) that explains how ip passthrough rates towards dmzplus, whether ipv6 can be made working again (which it can't with dmzplus), etc, etc....
Lay it on me! Basically looking for static ip experiences.....

Internet Speed Tests Giving Different Results
AT&T's gives me 47 mbps, Ookla is saying 25 mbps and Speakeasy says 14 mbps. Which is correct? This was using WIFI. I know using Ethernet gets better results but I was just curious why WIFI was giving different results?

Compensation for loss of a network channel?
Has anybody been successful in getting compensation from AT&T when they lose one of the local channels due to failed contract negotiations between the channel and AT&T? We lost one of our local channels that's associated with one of the national broadcast organizations on Wednesday and hasn't yet returned. Unfortunately, it's one of the channels we watch quite regularly and because of my disability hooking up an OTA antenna is not an option.
I really wish that the FCC would go back to the original policy were all cable providers were required to carry local channels in the local channels couldn't charge for it. I don't really understand why the local channels can charge because reaching more people is good for their business model. They are based on advertising revenue and they irately can charge more for that if they reach more customers, you would think they would what the cable companies to carry them.

Help w/ Wireless STB
I had service installed 3 months ago and all is fine. I have the main STB which is directly connected to the RG and 2 other STB's that are connected to a simple 5 port switch which the switch is directly connected to the RG. All of the rest of my home network wiring is coming off of an entirely seperate port on the RG going to a r7000 router and then down to a gigabit switch.
The question is I have a 3rd STB that I was *hoping* to connect wireless. It is an IPN330HD. When I turn it on it just says the service is unavailable and the only option is to restart the receiver, which becomes an endless loop. Some slight research is alot of mention of an ATT WAP. Is this needed? Can the unit not connect to the wifi on the 5268AC?
Thanks for any help you guys can provide as usual. Love this forum - visit daily!

Got the fiber 1000 installed.
It's crazy fast but I'm not sure I'm getting full speed.
Run speed tests from dslreports and get junk on chrome but good on IE. Edge tells me I'm over a gig and gives me an error.
Comp is an AMD CPU 4 core 3.2 GHZ 8 gigs ram

Script to check ATT Fiber coverage
I got the inspiration from the Century Link forum for mapping availability of ATT Fiber in a particular area.
The idea is to grab a box on google maps using two addresses (NE and SW) then get a list of addresses and pass that on to the ATT Fiber availability webpage. Well I spent a day learning Python and another porting the code to AT&T and here is result

Please see my github page here for the scripts

Next task would be to do something like this
https://github.com/mtdoyle/CLSpeedPhantomJS/blob/master/README.md
This can cull through large addresses and create a super detailed plots like this

bond pair order
how can I order a bonded pair order? I was told by a tech that I qualified but I would have to call att and order it. I called att and the system can only see my 6mb profile. But when I talk to techs around the area and check my line they tell I could but can not order it through att.

AT&T provides decent speeds...
http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest/12305999 was my last speed test. Based on the "package" I am paying for and what is delivered, I have no reason to "dis" AT&T. I'm paying for something like 25down and 5up which is fine for a one person household. I stream Netflix et. all at will, always getting 1080i (or p when available); downloads on the PC are of a consistent nature; video conferencing is excellent.
Although it would be "cool" to be able to tell people I'm doing a gig up and down, I really do not think I'd notice one iota of difference and I am serious video viewer. All in All, AT&T is a product I recommend, even though they WERE throttling Netflix back when and got caught doing so..... ;)

FTTN to FTTP conversion
After ATT adds fiber to an area, what do they do with customers on existing Copper service? Do they convert the over to fiber or wait for existing customers to upgrade to 100 Mbps and higher speeds?

ATT Fiber outages
I just signed up for ATT Fiber in November and have experienced 3 outages so far. This past weekend was the worst- almost lasting 48 hours. What's frustrating is that ATT is very quiet about providing information on the outage cause and ETA of repair. When I had Cox cable for 5 years, I only remember a single outage which last 4 hours. After my 12 months term is up, I'm strongly considering switching back to Cox. Anyone else experience the same outage issues with Att fiber?

Fiber deployment in Smyrna, TN
Anyone know if they stopped the project all together? they announced it 2-3 years ago. and for a while i saw trucks running fiber and working on cabinets. it's available half a mile up the street from me. but I haven't seen any progress around town in the past year.
I asked twitter support if I could pay for a build-out of that last half mile, or how many users on a cabinet would have to commit before expanding this direction, or if the deployment was even in progress anymore. They wouldn't say and had no processes in place for requests like that. is ATT backing out now that google fiber is fading?
