It was around a week ago when most of the five screens we have here at the house had their recording screens go kablooey, when their list of previously recorded programs didn't populate. As any u-verse user of moderate length who has learned what meager self-service tweaks and hoops to jump through can attest to, we pushed and held power buttons, unplugged set-top boxes as well as the NVG 589. As you might expect these were nothing more than temporary fixes. It wasn't long before other issues reared their ugly heads. Since it was the holidays and we had company staying over, my sister (whose name the account is under) got fed up and called AT&T. More tests were conducted as per the suggestions of tele support. Another temporary reprieve but ultimately led to u-verse sending us their most current remote controls, the S30-S1A.
These mark the third version of u-verse remote we've used in the 17 months of being u-verse customers (S10 and S20 being the previous models).
The shape, contours and feel are almost exactly like the original S10-S4's we started out with. Some buttons have been removed, like the AT&T, TV, DVD and AUX which crowned the tops of the S10s. The A, B and C buttons moved to the bottoms on the S30s. There is now a dedicated TV Input button. Illumination is produced with any button push and lasts for about 5-6 seconds. Users can also light up the keyboard by pressing the 'B' button. Other function buttons have been repositioned and colored. Printed User Guides were provided which allow synching to a variety of TVs as well as audio receivers, amps and accessories. It took me four attempts to get mine to work with my 4-year old LG LCD-LED TV.

Some time ago when my remote was misbehaving in a most lethargic way I went to a local orange AT&T store, where I was informed that they didn't stock any replacement remotes for retail sale. Interestingly, not a half an hour ago I found a very close variation of their new remote on Amazon, where they were selling at less than half of what the AT&T website had them for, even after shipping was factored in.
