AT&T FTTN Install - Grounding Question - Where is the Test Port?

I have FTTN provided by a third-party IPS leasing from AT&T. It is my understanding that the Gateway belongs to AT&T. The installation of the gateway was by an AT&T U-verse tech. I liked the young man who did the installation. He installed a new NID. I cannot find a part number, but it is ~10" wide and 5.5" high. After he left I remembered reading about telecom grounding and the 2008 and later NEC. The tech elected to reconnect a sheathed AWG #12 solid copper wire that 'disappears' into the wall. I know that it is clamped to our copper water pipes inside but there was no way he could have. I have a grounding rod that grounds our service entrance. It is close by, 90" from the NID. It is my understanding that to properly ground the NID (and with it, AT&T's gateway in my house) the NID should be grounded to the grounding rod using #6 AWG copper wire and a separate clamp. Please let me know if I am wrong. I have a suitable length of 19 strand #6 copper cable. The tech did not screw down his 'center post allen bolt' so I have access to both sides of the NID. Would a #6 ring terminal that fits the NID grounding bolt be appropriate for the NID end of the grounding line, or should this be left to an AT&T employee to correct? I also thought that the NID should have a connection test port. I do not see one. Is it the case that the inside wiring to the jack used to connect the Gateway is considered AT&T 'outside plant' and that this then removes the value of a test port as close to the drop termination as possible? thanks, baumgrenze
