I've been a VZW wireless 'broadband' user for years and have been a long time poster on this site. I live in the sticks. Recently am able to get uverse pro. I wasn't impressed with the 3M advertised speed as I can get 10 down with VZW (according to the AT&T test, below 3 on this site's test). Since there is a 30 day money back and the cost is a fraction, I figured I'd give it a shot. Since I use VPN a lot, I'm hopeful there is a lack of latency that will make up for the lower speed.
My old POTs line was crap, I even cancelled my landline because they couldn't get it to work reliably. I'm at least 200' feet from the road and then they would have to likely run another 100' sideways if they follow the old line. Anything I should watch out/ask for when they install next week? I'm fairly technical but am new to this technology. They say fiber is "coming" but I'll believe it when I see it, my street is not dense at all - old farmland.
Edit: I'm assuming they'll have to run a new line, I'm afraid they'll try to use the 40 year old copper that was spliced 10 years ago when I drilled it for fencing. Never was the same afterward. Didn't care for telephone only. Last few years, they always said it was the box at the street but it was taking longer and longer for them to come out and it worked less and less (lots of noise).
I mention all this in case anyone has advice on what to say to the installer to convince him to use a new line and NID (unless that's typical anyway).
