Received "the letter" from AT&T "respond by"....RUDE CSR behavior ensues.

Just received one of these U Verse letters asking you to respond by such a date to see if you want to "upgrade" to U Verse from aDSL...It has the typical "respond by such a date" I call the number since one of our other members indicated that when he failed to respond to a letter such as this they interfered with his aDSL service and created problems with his AT&T e mail account. My call is answered by a very curt and somewhat rude CSR, I'm not sure if they are contract or in house, but I proceed to inform her that I am responding to the letter sent, and what they need to know....She proceeds to tell me that aDSL is going away and that I need to schedule an appointment for U Verse installation to keep my account. I inform her that the letter mentions NOTHING about my current service being ended at all. So I press her politely and inquire as to whether I will receive a letter or bill which states that my current service will be terminated at such a time if I don't get U Verse service.....she claims no, nothing they will just terminate the service. Now I ask her for her operator number and she claims that she doesn't have to give it out. I inform her that without that information I will not be discussing the issue further since I would like to have her ID so if there is a problem I can account for it later. Wow surly, curt, and rude....not a good way to keep a customer happy or interested in newer more expensive service....it's odd because I have NEVER spoken to a rude AT&T CSR in all the time I have been dealing with them over the past three years now...what happened. Not a great way to convince customers to stay and invest in more expensive service.
