Buying my own Uverse DVR

So after an inordinate amount of time spent on the phone with Uverse today talking to pretty much every different department that exists, I have my bill back where it should be and a replacement VOIP battery on the way. The one thing I didn't get accomplished was getting my DVR upgraded to a model that will actually handle the household's new HD viewing and recording. We have an IPN4320 DVR hooked to an i3812v on the back of the house. We are too far from the CO to get anything above 18mbps on our lines and because of the distance we weren't able to get the wireless DVR setup they planned on installing. Because we didn't have HD set at the time or order HD service, we were told by the tech that we got the small DVR. The most I could get them to do today was to come down from the $105 they started at to $45 for the high capacity DVR which to the best of my understanding is still a leased box that would have to be returned. So my questions are as follows: 1. Can I buy a secondhand DVR and have it set up with my current service? 2. If so, what models would be compatible with my equipment? 3. If I buy something secondhand and the account it originated on is not in good standing, will it not activate? Thanks in advance for your help
