Location: McAllen, TX north side.
Today at least two trucks (1 contractor and 1 at&t) were working in and around my neighborhood. The at&t truck with the little trailer on the back was working in one intersection while the contractor's truck was laying fiber optic cable just feet from my house see picture.
The strange thing is that southwestern bell had already fiber on the poles so what's the point of laying a new cable? I talked to the guy and said that the cable is a 288 strand fiber optic and he mentioned uverse. Since the best uverse that we can get here is a blazing 3 Mbps I wonder what is the purpose of this new cable, gigapower? I highly doubt it but since there are a lot of new high end business around maybe, the brand new FBI headquarters are just under a mile from my house.
Here there are rumors that TWC is readying MAX speeds and since everybody I know have TWC internet I wonder if at&t is ready to offer us something better than 3Mbps.
What's the use for a 288 strand fiber optic cable?
