I'm new to the San Mateo CA area, and really did not want to use Comcast. AT&T U-Verse seems like the better option overall. I called and the sales guy gave me a good deal, but I was quite clear in my questions to him, if this was really fiber to my house. He swore up and down that yes, its all fiber.
So the tech shows up today- surprise, no its all copper to the building. Not a good start. He spends a good 2 hours just doing what he does on the outside, then starts testing the inside wiring. I live in an attached townhome community, that was maybe built in the 80s. They have me provisioned for 45mb service (2 pairs), but he cannot get the 2nd pair working from the outside closet to the in-house jack. He thinks the wires are bad but who knows why.
After 3 hours, he now has to cancel everything, and have me re-provisioned for 25mb service on 1 pair. When we checked out the outside closet, i noticed that someone was using a media converter to go from phone line > coax, to bring the service into the home. He tells me that wont work for 45mb service, only 25mb, is this really true?
Any advice on what to do here? They can't run a new line, because it would be run via other peoples homes.
