I just switched from POTS and ADSL2 provided by AT&T (Bellsouth Telecommunications, LLC) to UVerse VDSL and UVerse VOIP.
Activation was yesterday, and the internet transition was smooth. But so far I have no voice service. The instructions make it sound like I should at least have emergency service even before Voice gets activated, but I have no dial tone or anything. My 5031NV says "No subscribed service" for line 1 and line 2.
In a chat with an AT&T representative I was told my account had been activated, but I would not have service until my old number was ported from BellSouth Communications. She said she could not tell me when that would happen and talked as if BellSouth was a separate company totally unconnected to AT&T (which I guess could be true at some level even this many years after the merger).
Is it normal to have no voice service at all during a transition like this?
If it is normal, for how long is it normal?
At what point would I need to take action to make sure I don't lose my number?
