A real headscratcher.
U300 subscriber for past year and almost a half. Older projection TV (Panasonic PT53WXD63). TV has two component inputs and one HDMI. Uverse settop (wired) connected to HDMI, DVD to one component, older WDTV Live to the other component. All work as expected.
TV picture from Uverse dies last Sunday. I start plugging and unplugging connections with the three devices and the connections and determine:
Uverse driving TV thru HDMI: no picture, only sound
DVD driving TV thru HDMI (same cable as Uverse): picture fine, sound fine
WDTV Live driving TV thru HDMI (same cable as Uverse): picture fine, sound fine
Uverse driving TV thru component (all same cables): no picture, only sound
DVD driving TV thru component (all same cables): picture fine, sound fine
WDTV Live driving TV thru component (all same cables): picture fine, sound fine
In both the above scenarios where there is no Uverse picture, the box changes channels just fine using the remote.
I conclude something is messed up in the Uverse box. That's the only thing that hasn't been exercised (see above). I call AT&T and get a tech out for a box swap. Tech comes out, and swaps boxes with a brand new one off the truck ... and we get the same situation as above: DVD and WDTV work fine on either input, no TV picture on either input, but sound is there.
We then grab a known good wireless box, and try to drive the TV, with the same results as above: no picture no matter the input. We then wire the brand new box with a temporary 10/100 to the router to a known functioning TV, and the box works flawlessly. So, it doesn't appear to be the Uverse.
I thank the tech for coming out and I ponder some more. I get a new HDMI cable out, and try that from the new wired box to the misbehaving TV. To no avail -- same problem as above.
I can't figure out where the failure is. Meantime, I have the TV hooked up via coax input (yecch) to the Uverse coax output, and the picture and sound work as expected: zoomed crummy picture and sound fine.
I would've bet money that something is/was wrong with the Uverse box, but it works fine on the other TV. Only thing I can think of would be some sort of codec push sometime last weekend -- does AT&T do that? The TV is admittedly old -- probably HDMI 1.0 or earlier. As I said, the HDMI works fine on the other inputs -- not Uverse.
Any thoughts on what might be happening?
