I'm moving to a new apartment midrise in Houston and they say Uverse is my only choice for TV/Internet. I'm wondering if there might be any other solutions out there, and if not, what package I should go for with U-verse.
Currently I'm with Comcast and get their standard HD TV package, 100Mbps internet, HBO, and NFL Redzone for $90/month. The base was $79 for TV HBO and 50Mbps internet, and then I upgraded to 100Mbps for $5/mnth and Redzone for $5/mnth. No monthly add-ons as I have my own modem/router.
More and more I've been wanting to cut the cord recently and was thinking about ditching my TV service to save some money. However I'm looking at Uverse internet, and just to get 45Mbps I'm looking at paying $70/mnth! Comcast is currently offering 105Mbps for $35/month. That's half the price for more than double the speed. To top it off, there's a $100 install fee.
Now, since I feel like I'm getting cheated there, I decided to look into TV packages. For the most basic package with decent 45Mbps internet, I'm looking at $90/month plus $17 in rental charges for $105/month! If I even want similar channels to what I have now, and even the option of RedZone again, I have to upgrade to the U200 which will run me $120/month!
Now, at first I was excited to ditch comcast, but these prices are absolutely mind blowing for less channels and drastically lower speeds than comcast. I really don't know what to do in this situation. Are there other options out there? I know I can get Satellite TV.. are there wireless internet options? Are ATT's prices really this high?
