My uncle asked me to check out his U-Verse to phone connection. He says his phone is working intermittently. I went out to check the wiring at the exterior box.
However, I could not get a dial tone when I plugged into the test jack and even when I clipped into the red and green terminals. The module is a AFL DM000417C VDSL to POTS splitter. U-Verse I believe uses a VDSL service and it needs to be adapted to the POTS wiring inside the house.
We have since solved his intermittent phone problem, but yet still no dial tone at the box. What am I doing wrong? I did not have a DSL filter on my butt phone, but I don't think this would cause no dial tone - just a noisy dial tone. A little confused here - anyone have any ideas? Is there another place I should have clipped into the line? Could no dial tone be because I am not using the filter? I also could not here him when he made a call, but the line did not sound entirely dead.
