Bizarre idea, would this port forwarding schema work?

I am dealing with a 3600hgv, and I am using a linksys bridge (currently called media connect bridge) to be able to access a security dvr system. This particular RG has some really quirky behaviors. I connected the bridge to the dvr, and waited for it to show up on the list of wireless devices. It finally showed up, and the bridge has an IP assigned to it, and the gateway put it into static mode. I have noted this with every other device I connect - goes to static, then dynamic. Not in the case of this one though, it just stays. My dvr requires a port to be open. Every 6 hrs or so, the DHCP server removes the IP from the bridge and assigns it to the dvr. And then some time later, swaps it back. So if I open a port on the DVR, as long as the DVR "owns" the IP, I can access it fine. As soon as it reverts to the bridge I have to manually edit it to remove it as a hosted application and then add it as one to the bridge. Then I had a bizzare idea - the DVR is set up to have both a web port and a server port. Both seem to work interchangebly so what if I assign the server port 9xxxx to one device and the web port 8x to the other? This is only temporary. I pulled some strings with an ATT field tech I know to get someone out here tomorrow to relocate my gateway to the interior of my house. He cannot go into the attic but we already have a raceway for wiring established since we have camera wiring and alarm wiring. I thought I would run it by some of you all before I messed up my sorta working connection.
