I live on an Indian reservation in Southern California. I've never had phone service before and I don't have an address, so I used my grandmas (she lives in a separate house) at&t landline phone number and service showed up as available. My house is currently the closest to the actual phone lines, so I thought I would try to get service at my house. I spoke with an att rep on the website chat service. I asked them if I could still get uverse even though I have no wires coming from the phone lines to my house. I asked them this question three times and they told me that the tech would determine what needed to be done during the installation.
They came out and noticed I didn't have a phone line. They told me that the lines belong to at&t, but they said they weren't going to install a phone line. They told me I would have to get some kind of contractor out to add lines from the box at my grandmas house.
Why couldn't they just add a phone line to my house 20 feet away? Is this normal, or am I missing something?
