So, first let me start by saying, that yes. I have searched and read a lot of the guides out there, but none of them seem to do what I want.
They seem to walk you through using your third party router as a wireless access point only, or set it up double NAT:ed. This is not what I want to do.
I want the 3801hgv gone. Out of the picture, disconnected in the basement in a box collecting dust. Any solution in which any AT&T provided product does any routing what so ever is unacceptable.
My plan is - instead - to use a pfSense box as my router.
Problem is, unlike Comcast which has a separate "modem" which converts the coax internet signal to Ethernet, all of this is built into the Uverse box.
I presume the Uverse signal is transmitted via the standard Moca protocol. Has anyone been successful in replacing the provided box with a Netgear MOCA adapter or the like, and getting this stupid all-in-one thing out of my life?
Or is there maybe an alternative Uverse "cable modem" I can get somehwere I can use to replace the 3801hgv?
Much appreciated,
Matt
