I have U-Verse Internet and voice, no TV (have that through DirecTv). I obviously have an uninterruptable power supply for the Voice service. The past few days the UPS has given an audible warning tone as if the power to the house has gone out, and then the UPS goes into fault mode and the RG looses power. I have to turn the power switch on the UPS to off and then back to on in order for the RG to come back to life. This is happening 1-2 times every 24 hours. While the RG is down, I have no internet or voice service. I have been coming home from work and discovering this. The alarm system on my house uses the phone line for monitoring, so for an undetermined amount of time each day, my alarm is un-monitored due to this issue. A couple of questions -
1. Does ATT own the UPS? In other words, are they responsible to replace it or am I?
2. If I leave U-Verse and go to Charter for internet/voice, will I need ATT to come out and disconnect their equipment from my phone line, or can Charter do that?
Charter has 30mb internet for $30/month, and I have been considering switching to them for some time. My current UPS issue might just make the decision to switch an easy one - just not sure if I ATT has to come out and do anything before Charter would come and install their equipment...
