U-Verse TV with supplicant gateway bypass

So I ended up setting up my opnsense box to bypass the gateway using the wpa_supplicant method. I also have U-Verse TV which I have set up to be on it's own lan. I use the IGMP Proxy to route the traffic correctly. That was all working great for the past ~2 months. However recently (in the past couple of days) after a while the TV Streams will no longer works. The functionality is restored on a reboot of the router. I believe it is in the multicast stream because when it isn't working the channels will work for about 10 seconds then freeze. However the oddest part is that it won't fail all channels at once, it seems to progressively get worse. Does anyone have any ideas of what to look at? In the firewall logs I don't see any calls to the multicast nets (239 and 224 /8's) except right when I reboot, should I see more? I'm just not sure what I should be looking at to figure out why the multicast streams aren't working properly.

[AT&T Fiber] Any way to bypass att modem using ASUS GT-AC5300?

Was curious if anyone else was using this specific router with att 1000 plan. If so, the options in the advanced settings have all sorts of options that look like could be use to "simplify" bypassing the modem. Don't really wanna shell out $135 for an USG. But I will if I have to if I can't get around their modem. Or if anyone else that uses this router, what were your go to settings? I tried putting the router in AP mode and it significantly improved my wifi speeds and kept them consistent.

[AT&T Fiber] AT&T screwed up my static ips after bundling wireless and fiber

On Friday, wanting to get a cheaper rate for my internet and wireless services from AT&T, I called in to the business office to see if they could bundle the account for me since I had errors doing the bundling online. On Saturday, I received an email to the changes made by bundling the accounts together. Sunday, I lose static ip connectivity using one of my asterisk servers (firewalled using ER-4 and iptables) and no one can reach me, which wreaked havoc with my voice connection to the world using my Nortel Meridian (connected via PRI to my computer with a Digium card). What should I do at this point?

[AT&T Fiber] Home wifi not getting along with my ATT cellular data at home

I have an iPhone 11 Pro Max (but this happened with my X Max, too), AT&T Business Elite plan. My home internet is ATT gig fiber (but this happened when I had 300 mbs, too). If my phone is on cellular data and wifi, and I search websites or use apps on my phone, many times things slow to a crawl or freeze. People tell me they try to call and it goes direct to voicemail. My cellular signal and wifi signal are fine. If I turn off wifi on my phone, it goes away instantly. If I do a hard re-start on my phone, it fixes it for about a day. If I go into airplane mode and just use wifi, it helps, but not as much. Anyone else ever heard of this?

I just checked ATT speed tiers site and it shows 500mb under VDSL, this one was not there a few months ago. How can you even get 500 Mbps when most lines struggle to get 100 ? https://www.att.net/speedtiers

Replace Router used in combo with Arris NVG589

My ASUS RT-N66U Dual-Band Wireless-N900 Gigabit Router finally bit the dust after many faithful years. I am presently using just AT&T's provided Arris NVG 589 "Gateway" alone now. Previously I had the AT&T Gateway connect to my Asus Router, where I plugged in my 4 Ethernet cables. I also utilized the Asus Router's Wireless capabilities, and many other features like it's "Dual Band" and "Guest Account" etc. Two Questions: No.1 What would be a good solid choice modern replacement for my old Asus RT-N66U Router today? No.2 How are these two devices configured to work together? (About Question No.2 Let me explain.) I originally set up this Router and Gateway "configuration" with some tech help, and it has been so long ago now, that I forget the specific setting(s) of the Asus Router interface itself, that allowed these two devices to work properly together. My Router is now totally non functional, so I can't really go back into it's interface and see what I had. Some kind of "Bridge Mode"? Anyway, I know when replacing my old Router with something new, I will have to deal with this config issue once again to get these two devices to function together, especially with a Router's brand new interface, and would like some tech help from this forum. Obviously I am NOT a Router guru, but know enough to ask for assistance when in need.

How long from fiber burying till service?

I'm moving to new neighbourhood in North Carolina where AT&T is on "coming soon"'s list. I saw the fiber optic getting buried last week and the team told me it was for AT&T. Any idea what the typical time frame is? Is it just stage one of 10 or is this the final step? Also reading on AT&T forums I see the new neighbour hoods are getting the BGW320. Anyway to know if I'll be lucky to get it?

[AT&T Fiber] Help configuring Netgear router & Pace 5268AC

Hi all, I have had AT&T fiber for a couple years now, and back in June after becoming fed up with the awful wifi speeds and lagging the 5268 yields I pulled the trigger on a Netgear R7000P. I found a tutorial online, and thought I had everything properly configured with the Pace hardware in passthrough. My speeds were greatly improved (went from ~250Mbps to ~500MBps on our Apple devices via wifi), lagging disappeared and all was good with the world. However after about a month or so I noticed the speeds started to sag. I tried rebooting both the Pace and Netgear to no avail. As of now I am seeing speeds around ~200MBps on my iPhone and iPad, and some lagging has returned. So, long story short something is amiss and I am wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction? I likely need to start over as I cannot find the tutorial I originally used and honestly cannot recall exactly what I changed. Thanks in advance if anyone can assist here. Cheers, Craig

Gateway bypass directly into Mac OS Ethernet?

https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/connect-to-an-8021x-network-on-mac-mchlp2388/10.14/mac/10.14 "Connect to an 802.1X network on Mac" Has anyone tried connecting the media converter directly to a Mac (or other computer) and then configuring the OS to do the EAPOL authentication? It's not terribly useful for most people (who have multiple computers and mobile devices), but it would also be the absolute most direct connection you could have and would be the best way to benchmark the connection (ping, speed test, etc.)

Very slow speeds on Fiber 1000

5 years now I have paid for 1000mbs down and haven't even gotten close to that speed. Over the years the speeds have constantly going in a downward trend. My current speed tests say around 100/345 wired with nothing else on the network. When I first signed up I used to see 600mbs down. The gateway's internal speed tests show 874/900 which is baffling to me. Then I do a speed test anywhere else (dsl reports, speedtest.net, speakeasy, fast.com, etc) and it shows 100/340-360. I just replaced my BGW210-700 with a brand new one that AT&T sent and there is no difference in speeds. I have been trying to scour the forums for ideas on what could be wrong. The only thing I came up with was someone said the ONT box needs replacing. I have a field technician coming on Thursday. Is there anything else he should be on the lookout for?

Script to check ATT Fiber coverage

I got the inspiration from the Century Link forum for mapping availability of ATT Fiber in a particular area. The idea is to grab a box on google maps using two addresses (NE and SW) then get a list of addresses and pass that on to the ATT Fiber availability webpage. Well I spent a day learning Python and another porting the code to AT&T and here is result https://www.easymapmaker.com/map/13bc08adc1c47818afd6437933d7ce4d Please see my github page here for the scripts https://github.com/enkur/ATT-Fiber-Check Next task would be to do something like this https://github.com/mtdoyle/CLSpeedPhantomJS/blob/master/README.md This can cull through large addresses and create a super detailed plots like this https://www.easymapmaker.com/map/cl_speed_1-15-2015

[AT&T Fiber] Is this the best I can get with my router connected to AT&T's?

Hi! I just recently got At&t Fiber. Prior to that, I had charter spectrum. While on Spectrum—with my hacked TM-AC1900 to ASUS RT-AC68U router—speed tests ran on both LAN & WiFi would often show @ around 450/21. Now on At&t—running speed tests from Arris BGW210-700— LAN tests show around 940/950; WiFi: 440/440. Okay, now after setting my Asus router to connect successfully to the Bgw210 (Following directions from here: https://www.f0il.com/how-to-arris-bgw210-700-modem-router-with-netgear-xr500-router/), I get speed tests around, on LAN: 820/820; WiFi: 350/350. Is this the best I can get with my Asus router connected to AT&T’s? This is disappointing. Did I set something incorrectly, or do I need to get a better router? If so, can you please recommend a good, budget friendly router? Thanks!

Is AT&T building out their fiber anywhere in North America?

Sometime last year (April, maybe?) AT&T stopped building out in my city. They stopped to the east of me about 3 houses over, and to the west of me about 2 blocks over (and 4 blocks to the north, 3 to the south). Is there any chance of this changing in the near future (next 24 months)? Are they building anywhere? Does anyone out there see them digging up streets and laying the big conduit? Are there any rumors or hints in the industry magazine/news that I'm not privy to? The local telco got bought out 18 months ago or so, they'll never invest in building out. And Suddenlink's a bowl-clogger of a turd. I really am sort of desperate for some sort of post-1999 internet access...

Internet 50 Profile

TL/DR - Had 66/13...during social media chat for billing, the RG resyncs to 32/6...billing rep says she didn't do anything...on-site tech had to be dispatched...tech comes today, he's excellent, but he's only able to get me back to 55/12. Yes, it's better, and what my package allows for, but it isn't 66/13...and with U-verse TV, all overhead helps. How can I get my sync profile back to 66/13? Thanks!! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |--Longer version with more details and more history below--| \/ \/ I was having a chat session with a member of the AT&T Social Media Team last week about billing / promotions, etc. No changes were being made to my service (or so I thought). However, in the middle of that chat session, my Internet went offline. The RG didn't reboot...just the Broadband retrained. When it came back online, the chat session resumed. On a whim, I looked at my RG's Bonded Sync Rates. To my surprise, instead of syncing at 66 / 13, it was now syncing at 32 / 6! I informed the Social Member Team Member about this, she said that nothing that she did would have caused this. In my opinion, the timing is too coincidental. She said she would refer my Twitter DM to the tech support division of the Social Media Team. I spoke to a tech support Social Media Team member over the phone last night, and he said that a tech visit would be required...and that they could have a tech here on Monday (today). I did not think a tech should have to come on-site for this as it seemed like a simple profile change, but I figured I'd go with the flow. The tech called while on his way, I gave him the details about why he was being dispatched, and he says that they didn't need to send a tech for that! Hehe. The tech was excellent, and he had my provisioning profile put back to the 50 Mb profile. He also resolved some long-standing line issues our at my pedestal. I looked at the RG Broadband Stats while he was here, and it is now synced at 55 / 12. I asked him how I could get back to the 66 / 13 sync profile, and he said that there is not any way for him to make that change. He said that I must have been on a grandfathered 50 Mb profile and when I somehow got downgraded to the 32 / 6 profile last week, it changed what 50 Mb profile I could be moved to. (This almost sounds like the Alternate 1985 in Back to the Future Part II.) He mentioned something about a 50 Fixed versus a 50 Flex/Variable Profile, but there was no way for him to put me on the 50 Flex/Variable profile...possibly because we have U-verse TV...and that the 50 Fixed is all he could do. I looked at my historical info, and I had 55 / 12 as long as I had the 5286 RG. When the 5286 RG was determined to be defective in 2018, a previous tech replaced it with the 210 RG. Once we got the 210 RG, our sync profile became 66 / 13, and we have had that rate until last week. Does anyone have any suggestions regarding how I can get put back on 66 / 13? I have 3 TVs and, if the TVs aren't on, the DVR is usually quite active, so the extra overhead is important to have. Thank you!!

[AT&T Fiber] Speed

Just had AT&T u-verse service (Fiber optic) installed. This new service replaces COX cable. I'm disappointed with the speed of the AT&T service, it is advertised at +/- 1 Gb/s (1000 Mb/s) but if I check with Ookla Speedtest or Google Speed Test I only see speeds lower than 150 Mb/s or even less. If I test with the AT&T Smart Home Manager app, it shows 998 Mb/s every time. Which test should I trust? Also the WiFi signal from the AT&T modem is not as strong as the one from the COX modem. With COX I had full bars anywhere in the house. Now in my first floor I only get 2 bars. the COX and AT&T modems were installed at the same place.

[AT&T Fiber] New problem - wifi speed dropping to a fraction during the day

My gateway is 10 feet away from my laptop. I have gig fiber. Generally, on the ethernet it is running well over 350 mbs up and down. I have now noticed several times during the day, that my wifi drops in a speedtest to 30 down and 11 up, while at the same time, like today, if I hook the RJ-45, it goes up to 700 down/900+ up. But at night, the wifi speed is over 350 up and down, while the ethernet speed is still around 700/900. Nothing has moved. There's nothing new happening in my apartment. I live in 800 sf, so I don't use extenders, boosters, mesh or anything. This makes no sense?

[AT&T Fiber] IP Passthrough RG Functions?

I am getting ready to move to an area with AT&T Fiber. I have been reading about using my own router and the IP Passthrough procedure is a bit confusing. I understand it is not a true Bridge Mode because the RG still maintains some functions rather than just becoming a dumb modem. Can someone explain exactly what functions get transferred to the router and which ones on the RG still remain in place? Jim
