Does it matter which gateway (Pace 5268, NVG599, BGW-210, etc) is used if using an Edgerouter and the eap_proxy bypass method? I have an install coming up and would request a specific gateway if it is required.

[AT&T Fiber] Upload Speed not Symmetrical on iPhones
This isn’t a big deal but I notice the upload speed on two iPhones are much slower than the download speeds. It’s great on our hardwired Mac Mini. Could this have to do with band steering? We have a BGW210.

Question about U-Verse wiring
Had a NVG589 installed last week and also had to get the line re wired from coax to cat5 from the NID to my room.
Once the coax was replaced, I forgot to ask the tech if it was okay to take down the remaining coax.
My question is, can I take down the coax that was left on the outside or is there a reason the tech left some? I can't see any reason why there should be any coax left, since the NVG589 uses a cat5 cable now (Then again, I am not the extremely technical type, so there maybe a reason behind why the tech left some coax).

Is there a way to contact someone at ATT, maybe engineering?
Ive had Uverse VDSL for over 10 years now and the speed and quality started out great around 8 meg and has degraded down to less than 1 meg, usually 800k ish down on a good day between drops. Over the years, I've had techs come out and upgrade me to the latest hardware, hunted for the best pair, and cut me dead ahead. I am on a home run directly to the Pace router. Loop is 7.5kft.
2 years ago, service dropped completely. An awesome tech came out, found that the pair had degraded and moved me to another and got it back up and running. He also suggested that I call in and ask sales to put me on a bonded pair. I did that, had an appointment setup, took a day off work, and got a call from a tech saying that they were canceling the order. After talking shop for a few minutes (I used to work for Bell back in early 2000's when DSL was called FastAccess) he said that I am too far for bonded pair. He also suggested to call sales every couple months and ask if fiber is available.
IVe been doing that and week ago, they said it was available. Same thing, took a day off, got a call from a tech saying the order is being cancelled, too far for bonded pair. I explained that it was supposed to be Gigapower fiber and he said that its not available.
Heres the thing that irks be the most, im looking out my living room window and can see the fiber that feeds both the neighborhoods that are 700 ft in one direction, 2800 ft away in the other direction and they do have gigapower. There is an even newer development (not finished yet) that is across the street and it will have it as well.
I understand that there are logistical issues with terminating fiber, (I'm an inside plant fiber monkey at my current job) but this is silly. I am willing to pay reasonable cost to get the connection as well as the ~$85 mo for the gigapower. I figure if I keep calling, getting techs dispatched and orders cancelled, eventually I might get noticed but that is silly, wastes everyone's time and there has to be a better way.

BGW210 and router MAC address question.
When setting up the bgw210 in pass through mode there is a step to save the router I'm using Mac address into bgw210. I bought a new router and in all the excitement I forgot to update the new routers Mac into the bgw210. Would having the wrong MAC address saved caused connection issues? I'm a caveman flying a ufo please forgive me and thanks in advance! :p :p :p

AT&T Gigapower rollout in the CA Bay Area
Hi all,
A friend of mine just had Gigapower installed at his residence in San Jose. During the installation appointment, the techs mentioned that AT&T's goal is to roll out Gigapower within the entire Bay Area by the end of 2017. Wondering how true that is?
I live in a subdivision that was built in 2002 and right across from me is a brand new subdivision which is gigapower wired and yet mine is not :( Hoping they'd fix that soon as I would like some sweet gigabit juice as opposed to being stuck with Comcast :\
Thanks!

Connection problem
Hi same thing I post on the AT&T Direct.
I was tell one person in the AT&T direct post about my problem with my internet connection that been disconnecting and connecting a lot just about every night after 9 pm CDT. There has been lot of these emergency network maintenance going on with my line and message ID NAD-3302. I told him that maybe it is due to an very old surge protection or i think it was a power strip that is near 20 or 25 years old. I said to him that my Motorola NVG510 rename too Arris NVG510 after a firm ware update that happen in June. Not sure if that is the cause of it.
Also told him I had a tech out here before in the spring this year. He gave me a new modem and also switch a cable out and replace it with a green cat5 e twisted pair cable.
He told me that network maintenance activities typically start at about midnight local time and usually only last till about 4am local time. That is assuming they are working on it at night. Not every night is a maintenance night for your area. It kind of depends on scheduling and such.
A bad or older power strip/surge suppressor could be a good and silent culprit. I would look for power loss events. Another thought to keep in mind, if the power strip is not supplying enough for the modem's power supply the modem can act erratically and drop connections even when it looks fully powered and accessible.
On June 30 I went to Best Buy and I bought myself a surge Protector that is 600 jolt and has built in EMI amd RFI noise filtering (which act like a choke coil or Ferrite Ring that you see on DVI cable for computers and USB and some power plug too like for printers and scanners) to filter out noise that is on the AC (Alternating current) which is great for me since I live in a apartment.
I wouldn't mind snapping Ferrite Ring on a dsl data cable I have and see what it will do and maybe make the SN Margin (dB) levels much more higher and filter out the noise where ever it coming from.
After I plug the new surge protector in That Saturday June 30 the same thing happen. Last week Friday It was pretty bad it was unstable SN Margin (dB) on the downstream very low numbers and even as low as -4.3 and -5 and the CRC Errors were jumping up right away at high rate. It disconnect and connect like 24 or more time between 9 pm and 11 pm. I even had numbers showing up in the Loss of Frame to and Loss of Signal on the downstream. I called att help desk they said it might be problem with the box somewhere outside on there end like on the building or by road
Even after 12 am it was doing the same for a little bit but internet was usable beside the phone that was blank and I try to restart the phone or reactive it but not luck until before 5:40 am this morning I click on Reset Device and that brought everything back to online and normal use with Downstream Sync Rate (kbps) ot 3600 and CRC Errors slowing going up every 3 to 10 mins like normal and SN noise levels are normal at 6.9 to 11.
On July 7 that evening/ night same time like 9 pm CDT and same thing with SN Margin (dB) starts at between 6.0 and 11 and goes went down to the low numbers to - 4.5 has the CRC error numbers went up at a higher rate than normal. Downstream Sync Rate (kbps) was between 3600 and 3400. Than it disconnection and than connection. That even on July 7 at 11:20 pm CDT The connection came back to normal stats and working good and stable connection for about 40 to 50 mins. The Downstream Sync Rate (kbps) is just under 2500. SNR margin downstream is between 16.9 and 17.9 and CRC Errors is still at 1. and the connection still was holding and stable for the rest of the night. I was just about too put a DSL Filter on the my att u-verse see if that will help.
Is there a way to do a deep line test scan on the connection. Too see what the cause it is..
I was thinking if 600 jolt protection is enough or go too 720 or 1000 jolts or higher and also is the built in EMI and RFI is causing problems. I was going to go to stables or office depot/ office max to check out what they have and buy a 1000 jolts or higher one.

[AT&T Fiber] ipv6 on AT&T Fiber + OpenWRT Router
Hey all,
I've got AT&T Fiber with a 5268AC modem. My router running OpenWRT (18.06.1) is fantastic with ipv4 but I haven't been able to get ipv6 working at all. I've done quite a bit of experimenting and troubleshooting. Most of the research I've done gets results from many years ago... anyone have some modern insights on how to get ipv6 working with my router?

Provision of bandwidth?
We are going into our third month of fiber 1000 service I am curious as to why after the first speed test that would be picture perfect our upload is always 960 s range the first speed test done on initial installation was both directions 999 and 999? Does AT&T limit bandwidth for the sake of everyone connected to the pfp? Or could it be that somebody connected to the pfp is using a lot of bandwidth on the upload? Or could it be several subscribers? Just curious.

[AT&T Fiber] Is Fiber coming soon?
So.... I noticed the other day that all the underground utilities in my yard plus neighbors and the surrounding neighborhoods off the main road have had locates done (electric, gas, water, sewer etc.) then yesterday and today I saw multiple AT&T trucks and contractors working and they had a large spool of Corning Optical Cable they appeared to be running near the main road or along it as well as working in those cabinets. Does this indicate FTTP is really coming???
Currently the max available is 25/5 VDSL from AT&T for my address but homes closer to the VRAD can get 75 or 100 Mbps. I am a Charter Spectrum customer currently, however if we get green lighted for AT&T fiber I will switch in a heartbeat! :) Also, my address has never had any services from AT&T since being built including POTS so we do not even have a NID anywhere on the side of the house or any copper line run.
Above is some pictures of the poles/lines/VRAD cabinets in my area, we have a mix of aerial and underground. I am not sure what is located on all the poles but wanted to post to see if anyone could spot fiber. The VRAD/green cabinet is down the road probably around a 1/4 mile or less.
Thank you in advance

[AT&T Fiber] New Fiber run exclusivity?
I have some relatives in an extremely rural area. They have no access to any wire line broadband (no cable). AT&T won't connect any of those to DSL. When I talked to a field tech some time ago (10 years ago or more) they said the copper lines in that area were in horrible shape. Even if DSL could be connected, they only qualify for 1.5mbps DSL.
There's a decent size (for a rural area) family business near that area - practically just across the road. AT&T has some fiber equipment sitting around, like they are planning to run fiber in that area. But the word I am hearing is that it will only be for that business, nobody else will be able to connect to it.
I don't doubt that the business paid some money to AT&T to get the fiber run. And given that, I can understand why they should get some exclusivity with it. But is this really the case? Is that how these dealings work?
The rest of the households on that road would really benefit from this. Will AT&T really lock them out of ever getting high speed Internet on that fiber? Is there typically an exclusivity period with such arrangements?
Everybody on that road either uses expensive satellite or cellular hotspots for Internet. Having access to a fiber or wire line broadband would be great for that neighborhood. They will all a bit disappointed if they can never get access to that fiber.

Thinking of making the switch from Comcast 300Mbps service
Hello,
I am in the Atlanta area and AT&T fiber has made it to my location. I currently have Comcast 300/30 service with unlimited data. I pay about 150 a month. I only need internet, so I am wanting to get the fasted possible ( at a reasonable price ).
AT&T has an offer until December (see below). I chatted with an AT&T rep and she stated the 1000Mbps plan has unlimited data (which I currently pay extra for with Comcast).
I have a few questions:
1. Can you use your own equipment? I currently and have always used my own modem and routers. I currently use a Motorola 6190 and an Asus 88u.
a. I do this because I like using my own and I do not want to be about of the "free wifi setup" that allows everyone to connect as they pass by being a Comcast customer.
2. What are the authorized modems? Is there a "best" option out of those?
Any help or what to ask for are greatly appreciated.

[AT&T Fiber] AT&T FIBER IN OAKLAND
ATT claims to have fiber service to our office building (2201 Broadway) in the Uptown section of Oakland, and I've been told that once in the building the "fiber" service needs to get to the 8th floor phone room on copper wires. From there the service will continue up to our penthouse suite also on copper. I don't know how many pairs of copper will be needed from the basement up to the 8th floor, but I do know that there's only three (3) pair available in the two CAT5E cable runs into our suite.
Presently, we have Comcast 150/20mbps internet service on coaxial cable and our five ATT copper phone lines are using five (5) pair in the two CAT5E cable runs. We used to also have our phones with Comcast, but suffering from too many outages we cannot operate when both the internet and phones are down.
My question is: am I understanding the use of copper wires correctly, and if so how many copper pair will ATT need to bring us 500mbps service?

[AT&T Fiber] Coming soon in my neighborhood?
I saw this near my house the other night. City permits show that this is AT&T's doing and involves trenching for new conduit, an upgrade to "CMPH" and a handhole. Does this mean AT&T Fiber is coming soon or is this part of some upgrades they're doing for regular U-Verse service?
(Unfortunately I'd likely still have to go through the MDU process with my condo board's cooperation, but it's still something I suppose?)

Pace 5268AC vpn questions
Hi
I have the pace 5260 with att fiber and using ipvanish on the Nvidia Shield only, haven't had the time to use the vpn on the AC5300 asus-merlin firmware.
Yesterday I checked and the vpn was connected and checked that Ip address was different that the att ip address.
Today I received a copyright email from ATT that I had violated the rules by downloading copyrighted material.
The question is not whether I download the material but what is the purpose of using a VPN if what I do is known and visible to outsiders.
I have posted a question to ipvanish which has not responded.
I have searched the ipvanish website and the only issue I found is the dns leak.
I have changed the opendns numbers on the Nvidia Shield with the ipvanish dns numbers recommend by them.
If is not the dns leak issue, how could someone know my vpn Ip address?
Thank you
