I've read a lot through this forum and elsewhere that changing your IP address if on U-Verse is next to impossible. Turning off the RG for a day hoping for release and renew of IP, and having ATT replace the RG are the most common solutions. However, both of these solutions are a shot in the dark as far as them working.
Unlike most of the threads I've read where the user wants to change IP because they've been banned from forums or games, I need the new IP because of other issues. Specifically I discovered my 80yr old mother really enjoyed opening every email she's ever received and downloaded just about every virus, trojan, keylogger, and other backdoor type tool you could imagine. I've since rebuilt her system and cleaned up the mess, but even so the IP our network is on was very much "compromised".
I've set up firewalls and other things, but with the IP address being static and recently compromised, it still makes for a target.
So to that end I wanted to change IP (and possibly MAC address if possible). I contacted ATT support as well as their TekConnect (sp?) support. Basically I got nothing but your standard Tier 1 type responses and troubleshooting that involved resetting the router or running ipconfig /release all from my computer even though that has nothing to do with the RG.
So what can I do? Who can I contact that isn't going to give me the same old run around? Is there a sure fire way available that will give me a new IP? I mean I'm sure ATT has the ability to do this, so what do I need to do to get them to do it?
