So I had a nearby lightning strike the other day, it was one of those that when you're outside, everything turned bright white, and you could feel the heat. I am not exaggerating at all.
It burnt all 7 phone lines, actually physically melted them. It then travelled through 4 routers, blew them up. 1 router actually split in half, with burns on it. Killed a copier's main board.
Went through two surge arrestors, bridged our buildings, melted the wire in one spot, took out a security camera, security gate, two more routers, a switch, melted the termination point, fried half of the usb ports on a nearby desktop (also on the network) before grounding itself to the metal conduit on the circuit breaker.
Apparently our Telco box is not grounded. There is no ground, so when it came in the phone lines, it went to the nearest ground - a building 300 feet away.
If I hadn't witnessed it first hand, I wouldn't have believed it.
Lightning is absolutely amazing.
