[AT&T Fiber] Motorola VIP2250 hard drive upgrade

I'll start with what I did, and end with a rant against ATT... The unit came with a 500 GB Samsung drive. I could not believe they use such a small drive with how cheap HDDs are these days! I first swapped in a 4 TB HDD. The system made use of the drive, but would not record. I then tried a 1 TB SSD. This hung the system up, clearly SSDs are not supported - shame. It would make the system MUCH cooler, and completely silent! Next tried a 2 TB HDD, same results as the 4 TB. System ran but would not record. Finally got in a 1 TB WD Red HDD (I didn't have any spare drives that small!). System loaded, and right away started recording a show that was on. So I now have 993 hours of SD (which I will not use a byte of), and 363 hours of HD capacity. I guess since it's running WindowsCE, larger drives and SSDs are not supported. For a relatively new device, that's not very competitive at all. I searched a LOT for upgrades to the VIP2250, virtually no information out there. So now at least there's one post that Google hopefully crawls through soon! Now for the rant... [rant] I finally had Uverse installed after 10+ hours in the store/on the phone/on chats trying to get ATT to live up to the multiple emails about services I could not get (like streaming on my phone BEFORE the install date - which was over 3 weeks after I called to get Uverse). Anyway, most things cleared up after install, except it says my Android is rooted and won't play live TV. It's not rooted, but I see this has been an issue with ATT for years, so I don't expect there to ever be a fix (regardless of what the persistently say, I don't think the value their customers at all, and the "service" part of their "customer service" is non-existent. After all that time spent before my install, they gave me a $20 credit. So they "value" me at $2/hour or less... And now I have at least 12 different pieces of info I need to have to get proper service. I have 4 User IDs, each with its own password. And an Authorization code, and a few random other identifiers. I can't believe how messed up the ATT systems are - piss poor integration!!! All the customer service reps were great at reading their scripts, but most could not address any real issues. No one can be reached directly, and even with my ATT cell phone, and after giving them my number (which they asked me for at the beginning of the call "in case we got disconnected", its "against policy" to call a customer (even when the customer asks for it!!!!). I will say that using the Chat function usually resulted in getting to someone that has a clue, and I sent each Chat to my e-mail after they were over, using a function in the Chat window. This is the ONLY way to get an actual copy of the commitments that ATT fails over and over to live up to. If I have any issues with Uverse, I am fully prepared to take them to small claims court if I have to in order to part with them and not get charged anything for leaving "in contract". They have already completely failed to deliver on multiple commitments to the contract they made with me. After 18 years using TiVo exclusively, my cable provider's service degraded to such crap that I had to cancel. There's a problem on their end, and after sending 6 techs to my house, but NEVER addressing the issue on their end, I had to give up! So, Spectrum, I'm glad I'm gone. TiVo, I miss you SOOOOOO much already! That said the Uverse DVR isn't horrible. NO WHERE near as good as TiVo, but not horrible. It is limited to 4 streams where the TiVo can do 6 per box, and 2 TiVo's can do 12, and you can watch content from one on any other. I likely won't have many times where the 4-stream limit will actually be an issue, but I don't understand why the limit exists at all. If TiVo at least 12 streams a single coax cable coming to my home, why can't Fiber handle 20, 30, 40 streams? Isn't it supposed to have far more bandwidth than coax? [/rant]
