During a recent tech visit, I was told that AT&T was working on being able to move the authentication to the ONT which would allow us to use whatever hardware we want. The tech said that it would require the current ONT to be replaced when it was available. He couldn't give me a time frame but I'd guess it'll be at AT&T glacier pace and hard to get installed for existing customers, once it is available.
Has anyone heard this before or know anything further?
