After months of reliable(?) service from my BGW210-700 with bonded pair VDSL2, the 1.5.12 update bricked it. 1.5.11 was already here and working "fine" minus IPv6; syslog entries from right before it bricked suggest 1.5.12 was coming. By brick I mean the solid red LED of death. Tried resetting in vain, no joy.
Now, I'm really sick and tired of doing dances every few days since they "broke" IPv6; the reflexive ACL toggle hasn't worked since the 1.3 series and downgrading it to 1.0.31 every night got really old, to the point I gave up and started juggling the static IPs they let me have. But it is VERY annoying when I have this glorious /60 and can't use it.
So, I was wondering if the community had any suggestions for what modem I should ask for if they let me pick one for a replacement unit. (I specifically requested the BGW210-700 when it came out due to the reports of v6 actually working on it.) All I really care about is being able to make inbound IPv6 connections. I don't use the WLAN chips on these modems (I have my own 8x8 11ac router that is being used as a "dumb switch"), I don't really need bridge mode or cascading or DMZ+ (and dmzplus seems to break v6 anyway, last time I looked). All I want is to be able to hit services over IPv6 from other endpoints (I have some GitLab webhooks, rsync jobs, et al).
I have a static v4 block but it isn't enough addresses and no matter how much money I offer they will not let me have a larger block. So I was just using v6 and all was fine on the BGW210-700 with firmware 1.0.31 but past that the reflexive ACL toggle doesn't do anything (all inbound traffic is marked as "Other DoS attack"). :hmm:
Will a 5268ac work for me? I poked at the one my grandmother has but "miscellaneous attack detection" had no explanation and I didn't want to bring a server to her house to check it, lol…
