This is a continuation of the thread here: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r28415992-U-Verse-router-misassigns-hostname-to-WiFi-laptop . Unfortunately, real life intruded and I was unable to reply for two weeks and it seems the thread was closed in that time :(
Anyway, replying to brookeKriege, I tried to reboot the router (Settings > Diagnostics > Resets > Reboot System, and it didn't change anything). The Macbook still thinks it is 'fubar' as soon as it reconnected to the 3800HGV-B.
I looked at the output of ipconfig getpacket en1, before and after the reboot, and there's no indication of either "Good Name" or "fubar" being used. nslookup 192.168.1.122 192.168.1.254 shows 'fubar' as the name.

Replying to UVerseTech , is there a way to get a newer RG from AT&T?
