U-Verse router misassigns hostname to WiFi laptop

I have a 2wire router for my U-verse setup. I like to allocate IP addresses for the laptops we own so that it's easy to SSH into them to do remote administration when necessary. We just got a new Macbook, so after initial setup, I named the machine "Good Name" in System Preferences, and turned on the WiFi to connect to our u-verse network. Once connected, I went into the router administration page -> Settings -> LAN -> IP Address Allocation, and gave the laptop a private fixed address in the range that I like to use. The laptop shows up as "Good Name" in the device list on the router admin page. I then refreshed the DHCP connection from the laptop Network control panel, and the laptop showed the new IP. However, the Remote Login Sharing panel says that I can log in to the Macbook with "ssh myid@fubar", where fubar is the name of my brother's laptop that was last connected to the router a month ago. That laptop was not assigned an IP, but used the standard 'let DHCP pick' method. For the minute or two that the new Macbook was connected via dynamic DHCP the router decided to give it that old hostname and I can't find any way to restore/refresh the assigned hostname. Worse, on the router's "IP Address Allocation" page, the machine shows up with "Good Name" as the device identification. So the router should know what the device name is, but insists on assigning an old historic name. Any suggestions on what to do to get the router to either 1) assign the right hostname to an allocated device, or 2) forget old hostnames in the hope that that will make it assign the proper name would be great. Thank you. The router is a 2Wire 3800HGV-B.
