NUBE - need more ethernet ports att Uverse 2WIRE

I have run out of ports on my ATT Uverse supplied router. I need at least 3 more. I thought I could use a Netgear router I have but no luck. Do I need to purchase a switch? if so what kind and how to link it to the ATT router and other devices? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
