Ok, so here's my setup, got regular AT&T DSL 3.0 Xtreme right now, it works fine, good, reliable, fastest I can get. Problem being, too many users in the house, hitting the 150gb limit, youtube is frustrating with so many users etc. I called to see what a 2nd line would cost. I get a U-verse 6.0 pitch, I'm a bit confused now. Begin bizarre sales pitch story: Guy starts pitching U-verse internet and phone, saying he can get me 6.0 speeds and it'll cost me less since I'm in some old ass plan I got back in 2007. I say, "wait, everytime I've tried to get faster speed I'm told I'm too far away and 3.0 is the best I can get, I live outside of what is a small town, next to farmland." Guy assures me I can get it, that there's some hidden fiber out there servicing a hand full of people. He also assures me that there is unlimited usage and I wont get hit for overages past 150gb. So I go, well even if he doesn't know the tech he is still saying faster, more bandwidth, less money. I hesitate while thinking this through and this is where it goes kind of crazy. He tells me that why it's better is that it's using fiber instead of copper and that copper bends that is why it's slow. Fiber does not bend thats why it's so fast. I ask how they go around corners he says he doesn't know but they just do. He then tells me that the U-verse 3.0 internet would be 20 times faster than my old regular 3.0 internet and he is offering me 6.0 so it would be ever faster than 20 times what I already have. I tell him but isn't' 3mbps the same as 3mbps, he says no since it's fiber it's faster. I'm ask "so what you are saying is if I was going 60mph in my old car, if I was doing 60mph in a fiber sports car it would somehow be 20 times faster?" Then he tells me that I just wouldn't be able to understand the complexities of AT&Ts network, but yes fiber U-verse 3mbps is 20times faster than AT&T DSL 3mbps. At this point I just wanted to hang up, so I tell him I needed to look into this more since I was just trying to get a quote when I called not switch my service. TL;DR: Anyhow, with the crazyness aside, I'm still thinking about the more bandwidth promised, the faster speeds and promise of cheaper service, over my current DSL/home phone. I've always been told that the 3.0 was the best I could get. Would I really be getting something different and better, is the service reliable? Right now I've got a home phone and AT&T dsl and it's been amazingly reliable. Is there some other catch he's not mentioning, limited phone usage, bandwidth, etc. Or it is really just better and I'm a fool to stick around of my old expensive plan?
