I just moved to a new apartment. It's located downtown in an extremely modern area - walking distance to the downtown library, the downtown courthouse, many fast food joins directly across the street and a utility company (Nipsco) directly across the street too. So it's a great central, modern location. I ordered landline phone service and UVerse Max Turbo internet from ATT and they said I had to have professional installation. When the technician arrived he took the cover off the living room phone/cable jack. He said there was supposed to be two wires in there but there was only one. He asked if there was another phone jack and I said there was one in the bedroom. He took the phone jack off in there and after a while he came back and said he was going to check the basement. I said okay and he left. He came back after a while saying that he couldn't get into the basement (my lazy office was closed as usual on a day it's supposed to be open). We talked a bit and he did some more work then he said I couldn't have a landline OR internet service and he left. I called to get a refund for my installation or whatever I paid $100 for and the woman I spoke to said there was no reason I shouldn't be able to have internet and home phone and that I was in a great location. She said the tech should have installed a phone jack. So she rescheduled someone to come install a phone jack. My question to this forum is, what can I do to make sure I get UVerse internet? The tech mentioned that he couldn't install it for another tenant because that person didn't have proper wiring in their unit either. Apparently the building's wiring is this way and we can't do anything about it. I don't think the management is going to change their wiring anytime soon, since apparently this is how their wiring has been ever since they started leasing units many years ago, so is there something ATT and/or I can do to get UVerse working? Will installing a phone jack fix it? If not what else should I ask ATT to do?
