I was around the Ameritech/SBC/Yahoo/AT&T DSL forum some years back. Took a trip on a third party provider for the last few years, but they jacked up the rates and wouldn't deal. So I'm back for some Uverse.
This is an install question. I know where the Uverse router will go, as all the cable lines run to a central location with a couple amps. About 10 feet from the outside wall. The questions are:
- Will I get a new NID replacing the one SBC installed in 2002 or so?
- What will the tech want in terms of wiring from the NID into where the Uverse gear will go? Cat 5? Cat 6? Cat-something-else? (I don't relish the installer deciding which joists he'll cut holes thru -- I'd rather do it myself)
- Can the wiring from this location to the different TVs be a simple Cat 5 cable? Do the TVs need to be connected directly to the router, or can they go thru a switch?
- I have one TV that I'll want to attempt to run via coax, and failing that, will want to use it as wireless. Is RG-6 cable OK?
- While I don't have anything cosmic behind my router like a DynDNS connection for a server (anymore), am I able to retain my current router setup with all my networked devices (most of whom have reserved IP addresses and the wired ones are thru a 24 port switch [yes, I bought with growth in mind])?
Thanks
